Teen rushed to hospital, only weighed 47 pounds


DENVER – Police and the Colorado Department of Human Services are investigating after a 19-year-old weighing only 47 pounds was rushed to the hospital.

Around 11 p.m. on Monday, Denver Police say they went to a home on Inca Street near West 2nd Avenue to serve an arrest warrant in an unspecified case and that is when they found the woman.

Police say her condition was so alarming, they decided to get her immediate medical attention.

"She appeared to be really small and malnourished, so we just took the extra precautions for her safety to make sure she is going to be OK," said Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

The Department of Human Services says it is looking into the case, but will not say whether it is a situation of abuse or a health matter.

"We'll be talking with them. We will be talking with the family to find out: Is she eating? What is she doing? That's all part of the investigation," said Jackson.

The teen is still at Denver Health Medical Center, but her condition is not being released.

Uh, der...I'm thinking she's not eating is what she's doing...

I'll keep track of this one and post updates...I'm curious to see if she had an eating disorder or if there was abuse...

Christ Really! I can't believe she is alive either!! I had anorexia and the smallest I got was 86lbs. And that was disgusting. I had heart palpitations and everything!

I can't decide which is worse ... her family starved her or she had anorexia and was doing it to herself while her family watched...
either way the family is psycho.

Family members denied anyone at the home was suffering from malnourishment.

"I don't know about that. I wasn't here for the past couple of days, but nobody lives here like that," said a family member who didn't want to give his name.

Yes, everyone knows it's possible to lose 40 or 50 pounds minimum in a "couple of days."

I had to chuckle, Lizard, when I clicked the video in the link you posted. It started with an ad for a casino that ended with a 'full screen' "EAT FREE"

On a more serious note, there was a local story about a 19 year old boy found at under 50lbs. While I was looking up that story I found one about a 17 year old also under 50lbs in Florida.

That there are this many stories in this country within about 5 years is a bit alarming. How many others are there?
