Jeff Ashton, the guy who unsuccessfully prosecuted Casey Anthony for murder and is now running for Orange-Osceola State Attorney, recently sent a mass email to solicit donations ... and one of the recipients was Casey's lead attorney, Jose Baez.

The email, obtained by TMZ, cites Ashton's 30 years of experience ... but makes no mention of the Anthony trial.

Despite getting beat by Baez in court, Ashton trashed him in the press after the verdict -- calling him a liar, "smarmy" and a "consummate salesman."

Sources close to Baez tell TMZ he obviously will NOT be donating to Ashton's campaign.

Jose Baez Hired By Convicted Killer

The man who helped Casey Anthony walk free is hoping to do the same for a convicted killer.
Jose Baez has signed on to represent Charlie Ely who is serving a life sentence for murder.
Ely received the sentence in a Marion County courtroom in October. She was sentenced for her role in the murder of Seath Jackson.
Jackson was beaten, shot, set on fire and parts of his body were sunk to the bottom of a nearby quarry in April 2011.
Prosecutors said Ely was one of five people who took part in the attack.
Baez will represent Ely in her appeal.

Zanny was on Dr. Phil yesterday. I happened to DVR it and I am watching it now. Did you know that Zanny has a daughter named Casey?!!??? I swear! This case just gets more bizarre the more I learn.

Zanny said that she feels Casey got off scott-free while she and her daughters are still suffering. Her daughters are still being bullied at school. The girls have been suffering depression. And poor Zanny still hasn't found a job! OMG!!! Dr. Phil just told Zanny that he got her a job with a cleaning service in Orlando. That is really cool! I hope it works out for her.

I'd say that this whole thing, even from before Caylee's murder, has been like some crazy soap opera, with all the twists and turns and various people involved, but honestly, it really is all too bizarre to even be considered a soap opera.

I hope Zanny wins her lawsuit, but I don't know how the odds are for her. Casey is like a cat, always landing on her feet, slinging the dirt on everyone else. At least now she OWNS the feet she lands on. I guess they're among those things that she can call her very own now.

As for TV, I've given up watching anything to do with Casey Anthony, finally, and I can even pass up articles that I see. She already has enough of a sense of her own importance. She definitely doesn't need me to flatter her by paying attention.

Judge Denies Request To Cancel Casey Anthony's Civil Trial

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Judge Lisa Munyon denied Casey Anthony's request on Thursday to dismiss the civil trial against her.

Munyon released a summary judgment for both Zenaida Gonzalez and Casey.

Gonzalez's attorneys asked Munyon to rule in her favor instead of going to trial in January. Munyon denied that motion.

Casey's attorneys asked the judge to dismiss the trial altogether, but Munyon denied that motion.

Munyon did rule that Gonzalez cannot use statements that Casey made to law enforcement about Gonzalez. Gonzalez can only use statements Casey made to her friends and family about her, according to the judge.

Gonzalez is suing Casey for defamation. She says Casey ruined her reputation when she said a nanny with the same name kidnapped her daughter, 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony, in 2008.

The trial is set to begin on Jan. 2, 2013. The pretrial conference will be held in December.

Casey's attorneys said that the case has no merit.

Attorney's said that Casey never identified Gonzalez as "Zanny the Nanny" when she was shown pictures of Gonzalez. Documents show Casey said, "That's not her."

"The fact of the matter is this plaintiff, Zenaida Gonzalez, is not 'Zanny the Nanny,' no matter how badly she wants to be," said Greene.

Another point Casey's attorney's make was that Casey claimed her made up nanny was Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, not Zenaida Gonzalez like the plaintiff signs her name.

Last month, attorneys for Gonzalez asked the judge for Casey's address so they can serve her with a subpoena. Munyon said the attorneys can subpoena Anthony, but that they will have to find her themselves.

Attorneys for Gonzalez want to be sure Casey will be there for the trial.

"We subpoena people for trial all the time," attorney Keth Mitnik said. "This is just her wanting to be treated different once again."

Anthony attorney Cheney Mason said he would file a federal lawsuit if his client's address is made public.

Mason said he doubts the attorneys with Morgan and Morgan, who represent Gonzalez, will be able to find her.

"If they do, she'll be gone very quickly," Mason said.

Gonzalez put herself in the public eye by conducting interviews, according to the documents filed by Casey's attorneys.

The last point attorneys made in their motion for dismissal was only after Gonzalez showed her face on TV did she received impolite and unwanted comments from the strangers.

Cindy Anthony made a declaration in support of her daughter. Cindy said the plaintiff does not even in the slightest resemble the woman her daughter described as Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez.

Casey was acquitted of murder charges in the 2-year-old's death. After the murder trial, she was sentenced to one year of probation in an unrelated check fraud case and has been serving that sentence in an undisclosed location.

Discarded Doll: A Photo Essay of the Caylee Anthony Memorial Site

I have been to sacred sites across the globe, visiting burials and memorials from Machu Picchu to Kathmandu. But nothing compared to what I saw in Orlando, Fla., at the end of Suburban Drive.

Caylee Anthony’s remains were found here in December 2008, a block and a half from her home in an unimpressive piece of swamp. She had been missing for six months. Every detail of the case was ripe for media fodder; once her body was found, thousands of people flocked to Orlando to pay their respects. They offered items Caylee was rumored to have loved during her life — Winnie the Pooh stuffed animals, for example — and might find comfort in after her death.

Three years later, while making the FRONTLINE film The Real CSI, I stood at that very spot. It was now covered with hundreds of lifeless creatures that seem to be either emerging from, or decaying into, the muck. Some of these dolls had been here for years – as long as Caylee’s short life.

Pilgrims had come from all over the country to pay homage. Written on scraps of paper, the barks of trees, or even on the dolls themselves, were expressions of love from Tennessee, Georgia, Texas and beyond.

As I began taking pictures, a family from Wisconsin arrived – Native Americans who, in their words, place special importance on death. The mother narrated the scene into her cell phone, describing the memorial in detail to someone miles away. The father stood resolute and concerned, while his preteen daughter looked around with a furrowed brow. They all signed a nearby tree.

A month later the site was cleaned up. One hundred trash bags of stuffed animals were discarded to make way for a permanent memorial.

If only 75K of it was needed to mount an adequate defense... I would venture to say that the State of Florida was billed much more than that since she was declared indigent for costs early on. I think she cost the State of Florida a great deal of money. Also do not forget how much it costs to sequester that jury and the overtime hours involved on the part of law enforcement in this case. I don't believe that 275K was all.

Also remember Casey owes the IRS 60K or something. Hoser knew that she would owe money on it and spent it leaving his client liable for the taxes. He had to know there would be the piper to pay someday.

Someone is supporting Casey because she has no money unless there was more deals under the table which in effect would be fraudulent in taking money as an indigent person and milking the taxpayers of Florida. I am sure more went on in the financials in this case than we know.

The Foundations Cindy/George started are doing what and they made money from Dr. Phil... where is that money. They got new cars too. So there is money out there somewhere.

I wish I could have been on that jury because I would never have voted not guilty and would have stuck to my guns no matter if it took till Xmas rather than being out and about on the 4th of July. How unsymbolic.

Don't mean to wander slightly off-topic for too long, but I was wondering if anyone had heard or read anything about Cindy Anthony's book deal being a done deal and the book having already been written. All well and good except for one slight problem. They can't find a publisher willing to publish it, so it's going to be one of those assisted "self-publishing" endeavors.

Also thought this was funny, the responses from publishers when asked if they'd be publishing a book by any of the Anthonys:

Casey Anthony: Hearing set for civil suit against Casey Anthony

As attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez continue to try to find out where Casey Anthony is living, a hearing has been set for next month to address several motions in their defamation suit.

Attorneys with Morgan & Morgan say they want Anthony's address so they can subpoena her to appear at trial in the suit brought by Gonzalez, a woman who says Anthony defamed her.

Gonzalez has a similar name to the one Anthony gave authorities for a nanny who she said had kidnapped her daughter, Caylee. Investigators later determined the nanny didn't exist.

On May 10, the court will hear motions by Gonzalez's lawyers to force Anthony to reveal her current and past addresses, as well as any Twitter postings Anthony may have made.

Anthony's address has been a closely guarded secret since she was acquitted in her daughter's death in July. She remains in hiding while serving probation on unrelated fraud charges.

Anthony's defense has filed objections to Gonzalez's motions to reveal the address.

The court will also hear the defense's objection to a proposed subpoena from Gonzalez's attorneys, which would direct the Department of Corrections to release Anthony's address.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez's attorneys this week also requested the defense provide records documenting any cell phone number Anthony has used since her high-profile acquittal.

That request, filed recently, also includes the name of anyone who has provided her with a phone, as well as the name and address of her cell phone service provider.

The defense filed its own motion, seeking again to have the suit dismissed. A judge recently dismissed part of the suit, but again denied the attempt to have it completely tossed.

According to a notice filed Thursday, the hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 10, before Circuit Judge Lisa Munyon at the Orange County Courthouse.

The media attention the Cure family was receiving was not pleasing to Casey. On the night of January 18th Casey called Stan Cure furious. She had read several articles posted where reporters claimed that Stan had originally agreed to speak to them before backing out. Casey has become extremely paranoid; just the thought of anyone from the Cure family talking to the press upset her beyond words; literally beyond words, Casey would hang up on Stan after a fierce war-of-words. Stan Cure’s wife would wait four days before attempting to reach
Casey and scorning her for her mistreatment of her family. She was harsh on Casey, upset about the effect Casey completely exiting their lives would have on her children, but she also reminded Casey she loves her.
