    Police say a man died while riding his motorcycle during a protest against helmet laws in upstate New York Saturday after his bike flipped and he hit his head on the pavement.

    Contos was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead after arrival.

    Troopers report Contos would have likely survived if he had been wearing a helmet.
    Somehow, I don't think he ended up sending out the message he had in mind.

    Also, if there's a god, he she or it has an even more macabre sense of humour than I do.

    BTW, just for the record, my friends and I all rode motorcycles or ATVs when I was growing up. None of us wore helmets, but our speed was pretty low and the surfaces were gravel or sand.

    I'm guessing there are a bunch of pro-helmet activists feeling very conflicted right now...


    Ahhh, ATVs damnit I miss having an ATV. I admit the helmets are rather... restricting in my experience, yet still a step up from potential head trauma and a guaranteed high speed bug buffet. Mmm! Flies!

    Today, just a little while ago, I ran across an article online about an old friend of mine who's just been critically injured in a motorcycle accident - no helmet.

    Yeah, wearing a helmet does suck and it messes up your hair but I believe they can help keep you alive

    That kind of screwed up the protest. Helmet or Veggie the rest of your life. Seems like a simple solution to me!
