Sean Michael Phillips, the 21-year-old Scottville man accused of kidnapping the infant, was not there when the baby was born.
Sean and Ariel have an older daughter, 3-and-a-half-year-old Haley, together.
“He’s always been a wonderful dad to her,” Kate’s maternal grandmother April Lange said of Sean’s involvement with Haley.
Ariel said Sean is the father of Kate, too.
The paternity has not been established by law. He is not listed on the baby’s birth certificate and has not had any custody of the child, according to Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Spaniola.
The baby’s DNA was to be taken Wednesday, Nelson and Lange both have told the Daily News separately, agreeing Ariel has told them she and Sean were fighting about the paternity test issue when he left with the child.
Without the baby, the paternity cannot be established, Spaniola said.
Sean had wanted the baby put up for adoption, Nelson said, but Ariel didn’t.
According to Ariel, Sean, Ariel and Kate were in Sean’s car, a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue, near Ariel’s apartment when Ariel went inside to get a stroller.
“I got out of the car for about 2 minutes to get Kate’s stroller and they were gone,” she said. “ I didn’t see them pull away,”

“I have not brought Haley to see him because I want answers from him before he gets anything from me,” Ariel said. “He won’t talk about Kate. Now he just wants to talk in general.”
“Sean is a great dad. We have our disagreements on parenting like any other parent does, but for the most part it’s pretty much the same. He loves our girls and has always been a good person. That’s why it’s so hard to believe he did such a horrible thing and to our own daughter at that,” she said. “It baffles me what he did and I will never understand why he did. I have no idea at this point where Kate is and all my ideas are running slim now.”

I have been following this case, as it is only about an hour away from me....mostly on FB. (which don't get me started on FB and this case...I guess I am spoiled cause I cut my teeth here at DD, on the Caylee case..grin)
News is now reporting that MOMs cell phone was left in the suspects car.
Of course we all heard about the droplets of blood and footprints....searchers have been out from 7-7 everyday...Mom has been all over the news.
My heart hurts for Baby Kate...
I've done my research here..go figure..and not meaning to sling hash...much ...BUT
Mom is currently on probation for get this.. "Unlawful driving away an automobile"...3 yrs probation, she would have been 17, it was 2009, charged as an adult...her older daughter would have been under a year old at the time...
And FYI...the DAD of the older daughter...(the current suspect) won FULL custody of his daughter..which he was going to lose when he was deployed to Afganistan later this month...

Blood found NOT human

BLUE LAKE TWP., Mich. (WZZM) - Blue Lake Fire Chief Larry Radtke tells WZZM 13 that says members of the township's Search and Rescue Team spent Tuesday combing over private property near suspect Sean Michael Phillips' parent's home.
The dense property is northwest of Scotville and is an area that had already been searched, but area authorities wanted to go over it again.
The team was looking for any evidence that might lead investigators to missing 4-month old Katherine Phillips. Working an arms-length apart, the team criss-crossed the specified area for several hours. Then, Tuesday afternoon, they made what could be an important discovery.
"We found some blood splatter on the trunk of a tree," Larry Radtke, Blue Lake Township Fire Chief told WZZM Wednesday. "And we found a shoe print."
The location was turned over to crime scene specialists with the state police. Test results from the blood splatter will be tested at the state crime lab to determine if the blood is human, or possibly from an animal. If it is human blood, DNA could link Kate or the man who most likely knows her whereabouts, Sean Michael Phillips, to the remote area.

Courtland has started a “Baby Kate Fund” at Grand Valley Co-Op Credit Union, 266 N. Jebavy, Ludington, that would help cover expenses associated with the search, medical expenses for the baby and other child-related expenses.
“If we do find Kate, and she is no longer with us, it could be used for her funeral expenses,” Courtland said.
Nothing new..still watching the search organizers on FB (both pages) who claim to be valid non profits..(on is out of Utah), organize civilian searchers...which has been a comedy of errors...So I had to come back home hear to vent my frustrations and my own ideas...
Nancy Grace had Kates story on last night...and stated that dad is going to be bonded out on the 13th, charges reduced to parental kidnapping....(facebook questions...like "they don't even have her dna, how are they calling him a parent" makes me want to throw my computer)...DNA can be collected from many sources I replied...
So I have asked them all on facebook to "critically think" the situation...without emotion...First question...when was the last time anyone saw baby Kate....answer..."her mom saw her just before Sean drove away with her" WRONG that isn't fact...that is what "Mom" said...
The searches are continuing today...LE has been out there EVERY day for 12+ hours searching....yesterday and today they had some civilian help.
That said here is what I have concluded...
Kate could have gone "missing" at anytime that day...we DONT know factually when she was last seen. Mom could be a bigger part of this...and probably is. Sean may have simply helped...There is definately something "OFF" with this "mother".

Phillips drove away from Courtland's apartment with the baby after an argument the couple had in his vehicle, she said.
“We were arguing about nothing, really, just little things that were getting to us. There was stuff that we were arguing about as far as Kate is involved, like whose turn it is to buy diapers,” she said.
He drove off with the baby in the car seat and with the diaper bag in tow, she said.
Courtland said she tried to reach him on his cellphone, but when he didn't answer, “I knew something was wrong.”
“I really have no idea what happened to her,” Courtland said. “I'm holding on to hope.”

The only problem I have with thinking the mom had something to do with it, is that the dad has been completely silent in all of this. She's out there saying she wants him to go to prison for what he has done. You would think that the dad would turn on the mom at this point and say something to incriminate her if she was indeed involved, not take the rap for it.

Oh I agree, totally, however, maybe he has said something...??? and the cops are keeping it quiet.. Or even with the two times (as reported by media) that she has visited him...he doesn't say anything to her, or police, because he would "incriminate" himself... I just don't see with the timeline of events that he acted all alone...I think Kate was "gone" when she was first placed in the car...I think they were arguing about what to do, and I think they decided that she would call the police. He went to his parents home for God sake, right where the cops arrested him.... if he had done something to Kate, wouldn't he have tried to "disappear" himself, at least for a day?
Her cell phone was "surprisingly" left in the car...it's missing...GPS won't work...The phone was turned OFF...who turns their cell phone off in the middle of the day.....
He was at Wendy's (fast food joint) right after "leaving" with Kate.... like within 10 minutes...and the drive from Ariels apartment to Wendy's is 5-7 min..... nobody saw Kate at Wendy's....
There are just too many questions...for me to be comfortable with "Dad" being the only player....

Hello Everyone,
So...I have been holding it in on other post's but I need to get it out there....I think that the mother is very suspect in this case...this is why:
1. While she posted photo's on other days throughout June, there was a massive upload of mobile photo's on 06-28 ...the day before the baby went missing....this to me seems weird...almost as if she knew her phone was going to come up missing.
2. She is overly calm in every new's interview I have seen and still stands behind him being a "good man" , a "good father", and a "good person" ....he took her child.........how does that make him a "good" anything?!?!
3. Where did she call the police from??? She had a new phone one interview stated....how do you get a phone and get it activated so fast??? This makes zero sense.......unless...again she knew that there was going to be a need for a new phone. In one interview she said that she tried calling Sean and he didn't answer and that's when she knew somthing was up......OK....if she "called" him.......HOW???? In the 15 mins that it took her to call the police, she produced another phone, got it activated, called Sean "several times" and then called the police??? This seems a little impossible to me.....just sayin.
4. Where was Hayley?? In NONE of the interviews that I have seen have I heard where Hayley was...why wasn't she with them? seems a lil convienient to me. Why did HE have custody of Hayley?? None of this is being revealed to the public...for what reason??
5. In the latest interview I read she stated that she "Took a few days off from her job which has set her back financially".....MY GOSH..if that was my child I would not even care if I lost my job.....that would be in the back of my mind!!!! and to mention a FUNERAL!!!!???? I would NEVER be able to even voice that until my child was found and I knew for sure there was a need for one.
6. On her facebook she is laughing it up with different friends about being one being drunk/hung over in the T.V. Interview they did......Why would you even care about that?!!???!!! Your CHILD is MISSING!!!
So in closing here is what I think.....I think that they were both "tore up" over him being deployed and schemed a way for him to get out of deployment. Everyone keeps asking "why not Hayley?" well lemme tell you...she can SPEAK of what happened to her and who she was placed with......Kate can not. She can not say..my Mommy and My Daddy put me here for a little while. So they are not only getting a LARGE base of donations but he will be safe in jail for a short period once he is proven to be the father. He will get only the max of 1 year. As for what he will face from the military IDK...but at any rate he will be safe vs. being in harms way.
Oh...and btw...why would she even bother to speak to him about anything BUT Kate if he stole her child....I understand trying to stay his friend so that he may eventually open up to you...but play him at his own game....sit there...look him in the eye....no expression....and not say one word to him other than "Where is Kate?" ....I pray that i am wrong..that she is safe...the mother is NOT involved and everything goes well and she is brought home safe.....but i just have this GUT feeling that is not the case......I pray I am wrong......so very very wrong.......

I agree that there is far more to this situation. The mother has started her own fundraising campaign. Typically you don't do that yourself. That throws up a red flag for me. Just too many questions. Yes she took a lie detector test, but those are inadmissible to court because they are not 100% accurate and people do beat them. Look at the Susan Smith case. They had to give her multiple lie detector exams. It was only after the Sheriff pointed out a discrepancy in her story about a signal light that she finally confessed. She had the whole nation fooled. She was on tv daily, crying as well. She drove her own car into a lake and drowned her sons. I am not saying Ariel killed her baby. I am just saying there are too many things about what she is saying and what Sean is "not" saying that don't add up. I am not getting a good feeling about this case at all.

Ok…so enough is enough…I have been holding it in for far to long….here is what I think happened/is still happening with Baby Kate…..
The mom……there just is something going on there….
1. If you look at her facebook page she uploaded photo’s to her account a few here….a few there….until June 28th when she did a massive upload of mobile photo’s…(Clearing a phone???)
2. She stated that she called Sean several times and that when he didn’t answer she knew something was up……..ok….her cell phone was in the car….she stated she had a new cell phone right away so people could get ahold of her……how did she call Sean several times, get to a store (with no car) , get a new cell phone, activate it, and call the police all within 15mins of him leaving???? Really?!?
3. She states that she will always love Sean, that he is a “good father”, “Good person”, and “Good Friend” ………he stole your daughter…….and how is there anything “good” about that….yes…good people can do really stupid things…….but if I was the mother…..I couldn’t say anything “Good” about him!!!
4. She has posted on others facebook ( LOL’ing none the less) about being hung over in a t.v. interview, and someone stated she was OK with him drinking while he was helping with the “search” for Baby Kate………..Wow….you really think it’s funny that someone was drinking…impaired…and could miss important details while on a VERY important search??? I don’t see how this is funny……
5. She stated that they were both under substantial stress because of the upcoming deployment…..hmmm….ploy to not be deployed????
6. Also…if you look at the photo’s uploaded and stated they were taken the day before she was missing…..she is wearing the same outfit she was when she went missing????
7. She states that when she goes to see him he just wants to talk about “stuff” in general…I would be DAMNED if I would talk to him about ANYTHING but my BABY…….I would sit there and stare in his damn face until he couldn’t take it anymore ……..and everytime he would say something I would just repeat…WHERE IS MY BABY…….
8. People keep asking…..why not Hayley….Well let’s think…she is able to TELL people who did what….Kate…is not!
So….in conclusion here are my two theories on this case:
1. They are working together to get him out of deployment and have stashed her with someone and collecting LARGE amounts of money for when he gets released…(Because once she is found and paternity is established he could only face 1 year in jail………1 year in jail where he is safe is better than a year of deployment as an infantryman where he could get killed)
2. Her family has her stashed, she gets full custody of Hayley (she has it now that he is in jail), and they are getting all this money………..
Or maybe I am way off the mark on both and just reading to much into all this…IDK>…..somthing with the case doesn’t sit right…..and soon hopefully it will blow wide open…I just pray Baby Kate is alive and being taken care of…..

I've read so many articles that I'm really not sure if I know which one you're talking about. All I know is that I would bet my bottom dollar that Kate has been 'sold'. I don't believe she'll ever be found, to be honest. I'm not trying to be negative, but it all seems premeditated to me and fairly well thought out. I can only hope that LE is smart enough to find some small piece of track that they forgot to cover.

And in the same interview they said "baby kate hasnt been tested yet to see if its the guys child or not"
2 year old is his but they dont know for sure the baby is b/c dna hasnt been done yet
So moms been with a few then if they need to test him

I just need to leave this one alone. My heart is still broken into pieces over Caylee and if the mom and dad are in on it and purposely confusing the situation and investigation, it's like they took a cue from someone else. Fighting over small things like who would buy the diapers? I thought they were fighting over a paternity test to be taken the next day.
And the clothes. Did they release anything about the clothes yet?

I have a theory about all this. Maybe both parents decided to sell poor baby Kate for cash, Dad doesn't have to go to Afghanistan, mom gets more cash from setting up fund, dad gets out of jail because they don't have enough evidence to hold him. Mom just doesn't seem upset enough in interviews and one should be if their baby was missing. I think she knows darn well that baby Kate is safe.
