Akron girl, 3, suffered apparent ‘organ failure’ from sexual assault

A 3-year-old Akron girl who died Wednesday suffered ‘‘multi-system organ failure’’ from repeated sexual penentration, according to a preliminary investigator's report.

An autopsy to confirm the injuries suffered by Makayla Jones was being performed Thursday by Dr. Dorothy Dean, a pathologist with the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

Results were expected to be released later in the afternoon.

Makayla died Wednesday at Akron Children's Hospital, where she had been brought three days earlier by her father.

According to an investigator's worksheet compiled by the Medical Examiner's Office in preparation for the autopsy, Marques Jones, 32, of Barberton, brought his daughter to the hospital Sunday night after finding the girl was unable keep any food or drink down since noon that day. The girl had been with her father all day, the report showed. She normally lived with her mother, Sarah Robinson, in Akron.

A CT scan of the girl's midsection found ‘‘free air’’ in the abdominal cavity and what appeared to be a 5 cm rectal tear, according to the report. The injury, the report showed, appeared ‘‘nonaccidental in nature’’ and ‘‘caused from repeated rectal penetration of some sort.’’

The report also showed the girl underwent surgery for ‘‘multi-system organ failure’’ but her condition improved only temporarily. She died Wednesday about 2 p.m.

A police report indicates the girl might have been raped.

Barberton Police Lt. Bill Pfeiffer declined to comment on the investigation. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified publicly.

‘‘It's an active investigation,’’ he said.

Summit County Children's Services has taken custody of three siblings between the ages of 18 months and 4 years old.

Efforts to reach Jones and other family members were unsucessful.

@AmazonThe title I gave this thread was like it was because I was posting really shaken. I tell my self not to post when I'm upset but this had to go up.

My husband came home from work and hugged our three year old and looked really sad then told me he heard this on the way home. we were both sickened to our stomach.

Me and Hubby think the same thing @misssmartypants, we don't think it was the father but mommy's BF. I think if it was the dad he wouldn't have taken her to the hospital with out someone making him go.

This story makes me sick. I still can't sleep because of it. I know the mother and the father. I honestly can't see the father being involved in this. His family is very church going and God loving. Very respectful people. The mother on the other hand has already had csb at her house on numerous occasions. She is a pill popper and has teenagers in and out of the house all the time. The mother's kids were always dirty and had runny noses. She did not take care of them at all. I know this to be true because I am her neighbor. She always had different men in and out of her house. One summer, she let the neighbor kids just take her son for walks in his stroller when he was about a year and a half old. The kids ended up just leaving him on my porch. At that time I had know idea who the child belonged to. It took me going to many neighbors to get him home. I will be very shocked if it wasn't someone connected to her. Meaning her friends or boyfriends.

BARBERTON: Police expect to announce an arrest this week in last month’s death of a 3-year-old Barberton girl.

Police Chief Vince Morber said Monday that the investigation and medical evidence suggest the death of Makayla Jones “didn’t happen naturally.”

Morber said detectives will meet this week with prosecutors and he expects an arrest to follow.

Detectives have met with relatives from both sides of Makayla’s family. Morber would not elaborate on the evidence nor did he identify a suspect.

He also would not say whether any suspects have been eliminated.

“We’re putting all the pieces together. It takes time,” Morber said. “We’ll be moving forward and it will come to an end. I would expect something this week.”

Morber said detectives have “been working hard since the get-go. Everyone wants justice for the little one. But we won’t rush just to make an arrest.”

Family members have declined comment.

No offense intended here, but those Church Going/God Loving people have been some of the sickest freaks I've met in my entire life. And being mildly neglectful doesn't mean you're going to knowingly let someone rape your 3 year old. I understand what you're trying to say here, and I sympathize, although I don't understand why you hadn't called the authorities on her, repeatedly if you saw this going on. (And from what you say, over a long period of time.) I'm not going to pass judgment on the woman based on your hearsay. There's no proof at this point that it was someone that the mother knew, or that she knew that the child was injured. There's no proof at this point that it was the father. You can't look at someone and see whether or not they're a child raper. You can't look at their lifestyle and figure that one is more likely to involve child rape. There are plenty of people who come from "great" families who are molested and abused for decades and no one hears about it until later. Police will only say that they expect something to happen this week regarding an arrest. It seems they have been working hard to keep the facts of the case close to the vest, so to speak. Putting together all the pieces takes time, but I hope they nab this sonofabitch soon. But police want to make sure they have all their ducks in a row to make a solid case.

They are not releasing any information on the suspect(s) and the family has declined to comment.

Now, the pain that that baby went through must have been excruciating. Anal fissures (tears) are painful enough to bring a strong man to his knees, literally.

There are so many unanswered questions…
How long was she like that?
Who did it?
Could she have been saved?

I can even begin to wrap my mind around this at all, that poor child!

I know that, that doesn't mean anything. Heck, there have been priests who have molested kids. But who would be more likely to do something? There are no words to convey the deep rage I feel over cases like this. A 3yo, a baby was violated, raped by a useless motherfucker. Statistically speaking, the church-goer or family friend is more likely to rape your child. Most people don't allow their children to be alone with "seedy, characters" but will happily send little Sue or little John off the minister's house for movies. Also, crafty child rapists know how to manipulate both the child and the parents so they present themselves as wonderful, wholesome, concerned community members and volunteer with youth groups, coach little league and offer to babysit for free.

I couldn't begin to count the number of times the victim was accused of lying because no one could believe that "good, christian man" did such things, and then they quickly start listing off all the issues with the victim and the victim's family.

Obviously the police have to be careful with the way they phrase things until they have substantial proof to back up their statements. Had they said the girl had most definitely been raped, then later it's determined that the girl has an accident (such as sitting on a pool drain and perforating her bowels) then people are going to assume the police don't know what in the hell They're talking about. This is how lawsuits happen...LE publically accuses someone of raping a child or suggest a child was abused when they weren't...parents sue.

I don't understand why everyone is so caught up in the wording.
