Ohio Mom Sara Apple And 4 Year Old Son Max Are Missing *reported safe*

Missing Ohio Mom Sara Apple and 4-Year-Old Son Max Disappeared Four Days Ago

Patricia Yohman broke down crying today as she described her daughter and grandson, who both disappeared from Newark, Ohio, four days ago reportedly en route to Yohman's house.

"I just want her to let someone know that she's out there and that she's safe," Yohman said, referring to her daughter Sara Apple.

Apple, 24, works as a bank teller. When she got off of work on Thursday, she picked up her son Max, 4, from a babysitter and told her husband and babysitter that she was going to spend the night at her mother's home.

Ohio police with the help of the FBI are searching for the missing duo.

Yohman said that she never talked to her daughter on the day she and Max disappeared and they had not planned for the two to spend the night at her house.

"The last time I talked to her was Wednesday," said Yohman. "She was over for a family cookout and she was happy and seemed like everything was fine."

Yohman began crying when she described her petite daughter with long brown hair.

"She has a huge heart and she would do anything for anyone. She's a good mother," Yohman said through tears. "Max is a very outgoing little boy and he would talk to anyone. He looks just like his mom"

They are using the help of the FBI in their search efforts and have alerted authorities in North and South Carolina to be on the lookout for Apple's 2004 White Saturn Ion. Apple has family on her father's side that lives in that region. She recently reconnected with them, but has never met them, police said.

Apple's husband and Max's father, Chris Apple, is not a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife and son, police said.

"He's been very cooperative. We've searched the residence a couple of times.

Police said that Apple recently stopped taking prescription medication. The medication was to reportedly treat depression, the Newark Advocate reported.

Apple's family was not aware of any marital problems or medication.

Family, friends and volunteers have been handing out flyers and started a Facebook group to help in their search.

Max is 3 feet tall with brown hair and brown eyes. Apple is 5 feet tall and about 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. The White Saturn Ion has a license plate of FCQ-5079.

OR, she could have been lying to him for whatever reason. I think it's too soon to say.

Maybe it was to get a head start to GTFO from under her husbands thumb. But would'nt a person call mom to lessen her worry? The LE would be looking into her bankteller job, to see if anythings amiss. I dont think anything is up in that dept, or something would've been said.
And just because you recently stop taking your script for depression, doesnt mean you go off your rocker. It was for depression, not for being a psycho. I wonder if the husband volunteered that info? I would wonder what the relationship is between him and the babysitter.

We all would have called Mom to lessen her worry if she were just taking off for a few days. They can check CC and Debit activity, they have cameras all over now, she wouldnt just fall off the face of the earth...

This is very sad, and doesn't look good. I agree, it's very suspicious with conflicting stories.
I doubt seriously the mother is lying, but we've seen how often the husband is? not good.
Little Max looks like his mama. I sure hope they are found safe and sound with good reason why they've been missing.

OK, either she told the story of spending the night at her mother's to give herself a headstart or she's dead.

I hope she's just taken off to get away from a bad situation, but I have a feeling that it's something else. Now.... let's play what-if. She told her husband and babysitter that she was spending the night at her mom's right? What if hubby and the babysitter are in cahoots somehow, or having an affair or something?

It would be a perfect setup for the hubby. He's got his ass covered and no one's the wiser.

I know, I know. I have a wicked imagination, but it is possible, I think.

Dad To Missing Newark Boy: Tell Your Mom It's Time To Come Home

    NEWARK, Ohio --
A Newark mother planned her disappearance and likely took her young son with her, local police say.

Sara Apple, 24, and her 4-year-old son, Max Apple, were reported missing Friday, June 10. Sara picked up Max from day care Thursday evening but didn't make it home to her husband.

Investigators immediately began searching for the pair and looking at the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.

After a review of the facts, investigators said they determined the disappearance is voluntary on Sara's part.

Police said Sara was responsible for the money management in her family. She was given significant resources to make the payments but failed to make payments on bills, including her mortgage and car payments.

Investigators said numerous checks were returned because of insufficient funds, existing bank accounts were drained and new accounts were created.

Chris Apple, Sara's husband and Max's father, said police also found undelivered goodbye letters to her mother and Max. Chris said both of the letters asked for forgiveness.

When asked if he thinks his son could be in danger, Chris said, "At first, I would have said no, but I never would have thought she would leave town."

He said he knows about the money issues but never thought she would run from it.

Police also found a "to-do" list of products to obtain and actions to take to impair or delay her discovery.

"There's a list of hair dye and a prepaid cell phone and clothes and duffle bag and stuff like that," Chris said.

Investigators said they have been unable to find a single piece of direct evidence the disappearance is anything other than willful and preplanned.

Sara was employed as head teller at a Newark credit union. According to the credit union, there was a significant shortfall in Sara's banking till from Thursday.
Police said the bank will make a determination if they will pursue a criminal investigation into the missing money.

Police are no longer actively searching for Sara as the victim of any crime.

Family members of a missing woman and her child said on Tuesday night that she was likely coerced into running away from home.

They told 10TV's Ashleigh Barry that their focus remains on bringing Sara Apple and her four-year-old son, Max, home safely.
    [...]

"She's never stolen a pencil, nothing in her life," said Trish Yohman, who is Sara Apple's mother. "I just don't believe that she would do this of her own free will."

Dozens of friends, families and even strangers gathered for a candlelight vigil on Tuesday night at Whitehall Yearling High School in hopes that their support would bring the pair home safely.

"The thought of not seeing her or Max again is just a terrible thought," Yohman said.

"I know we'll find them," said Mark Yohman, who is Sara Apple's father. "I can't wait to hug her and kiss Max all over. We'll find them."

Police said that the only victim in the case is Max Apple.

Sara Apple faces possible charges, including inducing panic and theft, Barry reported.

I disagree, I think she took off on her own free will. I just hope she hasn't hurt the lil one.

Edit: I posted this before I read the rest of the posts...now that I've read them all I don't think she hurt the lil one. It sounds like she was hoarding away money for some time, planning her disappearance. If she didn't want her son she would have just left him behind when she took off.

And the shortfall from work, hair dye. She's running from something and maybe to something, at least it appears that way.

Max probably thinks they're on an adventure. He may be having the time of his life, but will eventually begin to wonder why they're not talking to Daddy on the phone, and why he's not going to school any more. I'm sure Sara didn't tell her mother because she thought her mother would spill the beans to Chris. Sounds like she's running from abuse. I'd suggest it was possible that she thought there's a divorce in the offing and she was determined to keep her son, except she evidently left him a letter of goodbye and then changed her mind and took him with her.

No offense to @Tundratot because I love the hell out of you but...

It seems wrong (to me) to suggest that dad is probably abusive just because this chick decided to kick rocks. She has a history of depression and doesn't seem like she's 100% with it. Dad is dealing with a missing child and spouse and to throw him under the bus with nothing to suggest he was anything but a loving husband seems...icky to me.

Iam gonna say she has a lover and this was planned for some time , I would like to know how much cash she stole from the bank.

Reward Now Offered In Newark Woman Case

NEWARK, Ohio — Authorities on Wednesday offered a reward of up $1,000 for information into the whereabouts of a Licking County woman and her son, who both vanished nearly a week ago.

Sara Apple and her 4-year-old son, Max, were last seen on Thursday evening in Newark. Since then, Sara Apple's mobile phone has been turned off and her voicemail box is full

Chris Apple said he and his wife were working on an amicable dissolution of their marriage because of her infidelity, yet they continued to live in the same house in support of their son. He said his wife suffers from depression and he thinks she stopped taking her medication, Elias reported.

"I think not taking the medication has really made her not think correctly," he said.

Still, Chris Apple said he just wants both his wife and son to return home safely.

"I want to help her with whatever she needs help with. That's a promise," he said.

That:'s supporting the elopement idea, anyway. It would make sense given what we know so far. It would explain why she seemed to be preparing to leave Max.

Interesting, isn't it, how her reputation is evolving from a wonderful, productive, happy, honest, mother/citizen, to a depressive, psycho, thieving, secretive, unfaithful runaway?

@Obsolete I take your point, but aren't icky assumptions our bread and butter? Right now Chris gets to shape this story and we might never find out what hers is. The first assumptions being made here were that he 'd killed her.

Iam Not sure But I think This Case Is Connected , He did pretty much the same thing as Sara Apple 2 days before she did

Police say they are looking into Heath man's disappearance but do not suspect foul play

HEATH -- Fred Calhoun walked out of his Heath home at 4 p.m. June 7 to get his haircut fixed. Other than a 9 p.m. email, his family hasn't heard from him since.

"It was a normal day. He was off work," said his wife, Susan, adding the email caught her off-guard, with him "saying he loves me very much, but he felt like he was going to have a panic attack."

He was going to spend a night or two away and get back with her. When he didn't, she filed a missing persons report with Heath police.

Police say it is uncommon for adults to go missing in these circumstances -- to not tell anyone they are leaving. It happened twice in the Newark-Heath area this past week: Fred Calhoun, 45, and Sara Apple, 24, who left Newark at about 6 p.m. June 9 with her son, Max, 4, in a white 2004 Saturn Ion with Ohio license plate FCQ 5079.

Newark Mom Reports Location; She & Son Are Safe

    NEWARK, Ohio --
A Newark mother and her 4-year-old son are safe in Maine. Their family, neighbors, police and the FBI had been looking for the two for 10 days.

Newark police and the FBI have been looking for Sara Apple, 24, and her 4-year-old son, Max Apple, since Sara failed to show up for work at a Newark credit union Friday, June 10.

Newark police told Sara's mother, Tricia Yohman, and her estranged husband, Chris Apple, that both Sara and Max were in Bar Harbor, Maine, Sunday night.

Apparently, Sara voluntarily made her location known to authorities in Trenton, Maine.

Yohman said she spoke with her daughter Sunday night.

"We're ecstatic Sara and Max have both been found, and we're working on getting them home," Yohman said.

Chris told NBC4 Sara and Max are expected to fly into Columbus sometime Monday.

Last Tuesday, investigators determined Sara left on her own and wasn't the victim of a crime.

On Wednesday, Chris filed for divorce. Initiating divorce gave Chris a temporary custody order for his son, Max.

Newark police has told NBC4 there will be an open investigation with respect to possible criminal charges of inducing panic, interference with custody, etc.

Very glad to read they are both safe and sound. I guess mom needed to get away and collect her thoughts.
I'm just so relieved not to be reading on yet another dead child by his parent.
