ATLANTA -- Atlanta police released surveillance video pictures of a fragile-looking, gray haired woman on Tuesday who they said has robbed several area pharmacies.
The Rite Aid Pharmacy on Howell Mill Road was her latest target. Police said she robbed it at 10:00 a.m Tuesday.
“It’s funny, then it’s not funny,“ said Rite Aide customer, Alex Smith.
Smith said he shops at Rite Aid all the time.
Smith said was surprised to find out an elderly woman is accused of robbing stores.
“I chuckled because I’m like, ‘What’s it going to be next, an 85-year-old grandpa?’” said Smith.
Police believe the woman is between 50 and 60-years-old. They said her robbery spree started on May 12th at a Rite Aid on Piedmont Road.
Two days later, she robbed another Rite Aid on Ponce De Leon.
Police said on the May 20, she robbed a CVS Pharmacy on Cheshire bridge Road. She is also accused of robbing a Walgreens on North Druid Hills Road in DeKalb County.
CS customer Matthew Gansereit found out about the robberies when he stopped by CVS for some groceries.
“She is obviously in a desperate situation that she feels like she’s got to do this continuously over, and over again. Hopefully nobody gets hurt, including her,” said Gansereit.
Gansereit had sympathy for this wanted woman because of her age and gender.
“I think she probably gets a little more sympathy. It’s not typical for a 60-year-old woman to be robbing anybody, much less at gun point. Hopefully people aren’t judging her less harshly because of the way she looks or her appearance. A criminal is a criminal,” said Gansereit.
Reports said she pulled out a handgun and demanded cash from the cashier before running out the door.
