I mean, my neighborhood has a lot of clay. But as far as I know, that is unusual for this area. And the news ran a spot about WIC, as if WIC would have helped these tards in this situation (although, kudos for mentioning the program...). They might have been getting it for all we know. I know, @Proud wife, no one noticed the girl was missing? AND no one noticed she was being starved to death? I need to stop ranting... I need to step away. Every time I turn around this is on tv, too. omg.

@WhatThe, I forgot all about WIC. I know it's not much, but, it's something. And, I'm sorry, the family would had to have been blind not to notice that the baby wasn't being fed & that something was wrong. Of course than again, think about the neighborhood this happened in & it might say a lot about the family. I know thats sounds wrong, but, it's true.

    Another update:

Investigators secured court orders for medical records and hotel receipts on Friday as the probe continued into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 14-month-old girl.

An order issued Friday gives investigators access to the medical records of Tania R. Coleman's three children, according to court records. Those children include 14-month-old Alayja Coleman, whose emaciated body was found stuffed in a suitcase near the family's upstairs apartment in the 700 block of East Eighth Street late Tuesday afternoon.

    ..................

Alayja Coleman has been identified through court records unrelated to the Erie County Coroner's Office. Cook is withholding releasing her identity until he receives the results of DNA testing that will confirm the identity.

The girl's remains were in "very poor shape," Cook said Wednesday.

The medical records will be used to determine to what extent she had become emaciated, Cook said Friday. Investigators will also look for any variations in her medical history, he said.

Police filed criminal homicide and other charges against Tania Coleman on Wednesday night, accusing the 20-year-old of allowing Alayja Coleman to die from nutritional neglect.

Coleman's boyfriend, 20-year-old Xavier Hollamon, is accused of joining Coleman in concealing the girl's death and disposing of her body in a suitcase that was placed in a garbage can.

Records are also being obtained for Coleman's other children, a 3-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl. Police said earlier this week that those children appeared fine when they saw them Tuesday night.

The two girls are being cared for by relatives, police said.

Investigators have additionally secured a court order for receipts and other records pertaining to a recent stay by Coleman and her three daughters at the Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 2800 W. Eighth St. The order states that they were guests at the hotel on or about the week of March 20.

Erie Police Chief Steve Franklin said Friday that police received information that they had stayed at the hotel, and police are trying to confirm it.

He said he did not know why they reportedly stayed at the hotel.

The hotel stay would have occurred about one month before Alayja Coleman died. Although investigators said they are still trying to pinpoint when her death occurred, Coleman told detectives during an interview Tuesday night that her daughter died approximately one month ago.

Police are still interviewing people as part of the ongoing investigation, and they are trying to nail down when Alayja Coleman was last seen alive, Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri said Friday.

"The more information the better in terms of getting the timeline down," he said. "It doesn't affect the charges, but it helps investigators as to who should be talking about what."

The investigation is essentially done, Daneri said. Although investigators will still collect some "missing pieces," they don't anticipate amending the criminal charges filed against Hollamon to reflect that he had some active role in Alayja Coleman's death, he said.

I didn't even see this one:

Court documents shed light on finances of pair charged in toddler's death

Less than two months earlier, her 20-year-old mother, Tania R. Coleman, court records show, failed to appear for an Erie County Domestic Relations conference meant to determine if Alayja's father, Rahsean A. Murphy, 22, could afford to pay child support.

Coleman -- whose net income was listed at $1,134.74 a month -- was set to lose Department of Public Welfare cash benefits on April 13, the records state.

Murphy -- who had been released from prison the month before -- had a monthly net income of $1,087.89 a month. He told the Domestic Relations official hearing the case on March 30 that he had been seeing Alayja daily since his release from prison.

A Domestic Relations conference officer ordered Murphy on April 19 to begin paying Coleman $99.90 a month for Alayja's support.

But by that time, according to what Coleman has told police, Alayja was already dead, or at least near death, for want of food.

Erie County Court records hint at the couple's financial situation.

Both, according to court records, were unemployed but receiving some income -- Hollamon from the U.S. National Guard and Coleman from the Department of Public Welfare and child-support payments from Hollamon.

    ...........

The records reveal that both Coleman and Hollamon went to court to tap possible other sources of financial support, but both eventually dropped the effort.

    ............

They also apparently dropped or delayed plans to marry. Records show that 12 days after Alayja's birth, on March 16, 2010, Coleman and Hollamon filed an application for a marriage license, which then expired.

In an Erie homicide case in which a black suitcase has become a main piece of evidence, another disturbing image has emerged: a shallow hole dug in the back yard of an apartment house in the 700 block of East Eighth Street.

The emaciated body of a 14-month-old girl, Alayja Coleman, was found in a suitcase down the street from the apartment house on May 24.

Before Alayja was placed in the suitcase, Erie police allege, her mother and her mother's boyfriend tried to bury her body in the back yard of the apartment house, where they lived for a time.

Police are gathering evidence on the hole and other subjects as they continue to build a case against the mother, Tania R. Coleman, 20, and Xavier Hollamon, 20, her boyfriend

Man charged in death of Erie 14-month-old released from jail

An Erie man accused of helping his girlfriend conceal the death of her 14-month-old daughter has been released from the Erie County Prison on bond.

A relative of 20-year-old Xavier Hollamon posted Hollamon's $5,000 bail Friday morning, a court official said.

Hollamon had been held in prison on 10 percent of $50,000 bond since being arraigned before Erie 5th Ward District Judge Joseph Lefaiver on May 25. Police charged him with concealing the death of a child, tampering with or fabricating evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Police accused Hollamon of helping his girlfriend, 20-year-old Tania R. Coleman, conceal the death of Alayja Coleman, whose emaciated body was found in a suitcase in the 700 block of East Eighth Street on May 24.

Coleman told police that Alayja Coleman, who was the youngest of her three children, died about one month earlier.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said the girl likely died of nutritional neglect, and he ruled her death a homicide.

Coleman remains jailed without bond on charges of criminal homicide, concealing the death of a child, tampering with or fabricating evidence, endangering the welfare of children and abuse of a corpse.

Preliminary hearings for Coleman and Hollamon have been scheduled for July 14 at 9 a.m. in Erie County Central Court, before Erie 2nd Ward District Judge Paul Urbaniak.

Here's a new editorial piece from a local Eeire paper- I can't get Alayja's story out of my head & keep checking for updates, answers, something...

As new details emerge about how little Alayja Coleman was treated after her death, we are left to wonder how this child was cared for in her short, sad life.(...)

The circumstances under which Alayja died have caused Erie residents to recoil in horror. The ongoing investigation into the baby's death and records have revealed this information:

    - Firefighters discovered the baby's body in a suitcase, thrown out with the trash, on May 24.

    - After her May 25 arrest, Coleman told police her baby had been dead for about a month.

    - After Alayja died, Coleman moved out and left her child's body behind in her apartment in the 700 block of East Eighth Street, police say. so she just left her dead (or dying) baby alone in that apt.

    - Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook's investigation determined that the baby starved to death.

    - Investigators found a hole in the mother's backyard that had been dug as a makeshift burial site.

    - Hollamon dug the hole, police say, but he couldn't bring himself to bury the little girl there. IMO he was too lazy to finish digging

    - Coleman's boyfriend fathered three of her children -- a 3-year-old, a 2-year-old and the baby Coleman is carrying now. so penis#1 didn't feel like raising penis#2 baby

    - A different man, released from jail in February, has been identified as Alayja's father.

    - For a week in March, Coleman, who received some support and welfare benefits, stayed at Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, 2800 W. Eighth St., with her three daughters.

    - She and Hollamon applied for a marriage license after Alayja's birth, but did not get married.

Coleman and Hollamon have not been convicted of criminal charges, but details about their lives paint a picture of two young people devoid of parenting skills. We know there are other people who are ill-equipped to raise children. We understand there is a cycle of poverty in Erie, a lack of hope on the streets and a world of bad influences.-but this is still NO EXCUSE to starve 1 of your babies to death!

Family members say they are shocked and saddened about Alayja's death. Did anyone ask about Alayja's health when she was alive or about her whereabouts after she died? If family won't do it, who will step in? Agree!

But our community has reacted, as always, with compassion for the victim. The "Take Back the Site" prayer vigil on June 8 accorded Alayja the dignity she deserved in life. (...)

he prosecution, defense and judge agreed:

The body of Alayja Coleman, the emaciated toddler found in a suitcase in May, should be laid to rest as soon as possible.

But they also agreed that Alayja's mother, Tania R. Coleman, 20, has the right to defend herself against the serious charge that she starved the 14-month-old to death.

As a result, the toddler's body, which, authorities said already was stored in a suitcase for several weeks after her death, will now lie in wait in a 40-degree cooler until the defense decides whether it needs to seek an independent medical examination of the toddler's remains.

Erie County Judge Shad Connelly on Tuesday granted a request from Coleman's court-appointed lawyer, Jamie Mead, who asked to preserve the child's remains while the parties await the final autopsy report from Dr. Eric Vey, Erie County forensic pathologist.

Depending on what Vey's report concludes -- particularly if it supports the preliminary determination that Alayja died of nutritional neglect -- the defense may seek an independent autopsy to test that conclusion, Mead said.

"We need an expert to take a look at the little girl's body to determine what happened," Mead said.

In his order, Connelly directed that the baby's remains should be stored at Burton Funeral Homes. If that is not possible, the body must be returned to the morgue, which, Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said, can store up to four bodies.
    [...]

Vey told the judge he expects to complete his final autopsy report by the end of next week.

I might be going off the deep end here but for some reason this make me want to rip my own hair out.
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Tania R. Coleman, 20, was bound over for trial on homicide and other charges in connection with the death of her daughter, 14-month-old Alayja Coleman, whose badly decomposed body was found in a suitcase in the 700 block of East Eighth Street on May 24.

District Judge Paul Urbaniak presided at Coleman's preliminary hearing this morning in Erie County Central Court.

She also is charged with abuse of a corpse, concealing the death of a child and two other counts.

Coleman's boyfriend, Xavier Hollamon, 20, waived his preliminary hearing this morning and will stand trial on two of three charges in the case, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

The prosecution dropped a charge of concealing the death of a child against Hollamon because it is not applicable to a nonparent.

An Erie man awaiting trial on charges of abuse of a corpse and evidence-tampering in connection with the death of a 14-month-old girl was arrested Friday afternoon on a weapons charge.

Erie police said Xavier Hollamon, 20, was among three people in a vehicle that was stopped at 3:15 p.m. in the 1100 block of Wallace Street.

Hollamon was sitting in the back seat with a handgun in front of him, police said.
    http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...=2011308059898

    A July 15th article:
A police officer laid out some of what authorities believe happened in the 14-month-old's life before her remains were dumped on East Eighth Street and her mother and mother's boyfriend arrested for her death.

Erie Police Detective Sgt. James Stumpo said that upon finding Alayja dead in an upstairs bedroom of the family's 729 E. Eighth St. home in April, her mother, Tania Coleman, told police that she and her boyfriend, Xavier Hollamon, did "not have a plan."

Coleman held Alayja's body, then laid her on the couch.

Eventually, Coleman and Hollamon, both 20, put Alayja in a suitcase with two blankets, Stumpo said.

On April 25, about two weeks after the baby's death, security cameras captured images of the couple in a Walmart, where they bought a big plastic garbage can with a lid and wheels.

They put the garbage can inside their house and stuffed the suitcase inside it.

Sometime later, when the couple got word that one of Coleman's relatives planned to visit overnight, they stowed the can outside at the back of the house, Stumpo said.

One neighbor moved it to the curb.

Another neighbor, thinking the new garbage can looked pretty nice, then spilled its contents, including the bag with Alayja in it, onto the street and wheeled the can into his home, Stumpo said.

On May 24, in front of 745 E. Eighth St., Erie firefighters happened upon the suitcase and found what was left of Alayja inside.

Coleman and Hollamon had by that time abandoned the apartment, which reeked with an "awful smell," Stumpo said.

Witnesses testifying Thursday, including Alayja's father, Rahsean Murphy, 22, said they had seen Coleman as late as March feed Alayja chicken, potatoes and Hamburger Helper. They said Coleman seemed to be a good mother.
    [...]

Coleman's father, Jeff Coleman, said his granddaughter's death was a tragedy. He said whatever happened, he wished that his daughter and Hollamon would have reached out to him for help.

"Tania never told me she needed help. I would have given her help in every way," he said.

After her death, 14-month-old Alayja Coleman was abandoned, her body stuffed in a suitcase found along an Erie street in May.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office is alleging Alayja was abandoned during her short life as well.

In a new court filing, District Attorney Jack Daneri said evidence will show Tania R. Coleman, Alayja's mother, left the child alone to starve to death in an apartment at 729 E. Eighth St.

Coleman, set to stand trial Nov. 14 on homicide, endangering the welfare of a child and other charges, abandoned Alayja at the end of March, Daneri said in the filing.

He said Coleman at that time moved in with the mother of her boyfriend and co-defendant, Xavier Hollamon, 20, but did not take Alayja with her.Instead, Daneri alleged in the filing, Coleman, either intentionally, recklessly or negligently "left the victim unattended in the residence at East Eighth Street, where she died of malnutrition."

    ..........
Daneri also recounted how Rebecca Hollamon, the mother of Xavier Hollamon, testified that her son and Tania Coleman moved in with her at the end of March.

Rebecca Hollamon testified her son, Coleman and Coleman's two other children lived at her residence in the 400 block of East 24th Street "seven days a week" until the arrests of Coleman and Hollamon in late May, Daneri said.

Rebecca Hollamon, he said, testified that, since her son and Coleman came to live with her at the end of March, Alayja "was never" at Rebecca Hollamon's residence.

Daneri said other testimony revealed that Coleman, when asked where Alayja was, said the child was living with Murphy, the child's father, who said he had not seen her since late March.

And, Daneri said, the evidence showed Coleman "was the sole caregiver to her daughter."

Based on all that testimony, as well as the autopsy report, Daneri said in the filing, the prosecution had presented enough evidence at the preliminary hearing to show that Coleman killed her daughter and endangered her well-being while she was alive.

have I got this right...... they just left this little baby to die? Because she was fathered by a different guy she was just left to do! Why didn't she 'dump' her baby with the babies father and walk away? This type of stuff always just baffles me! Why risk a life in prison when you could hand the baby over?! Why?

The prosecution wanted the defense to show some evidence that homicide defendant Tania Coleman suffers from a mental illness before a judge granted a psychiatric evaluation of her.

Coleman's court-appointed lawyer, Jamie Mead, said the charge against Coleman -- that she starved her 14-month-old daughter, Alayja, and then threw the girl's body out in a suitcase -- is enough indication of a possible mental defect.

    A judge on Thursday agreed.

Judge Shad Connelly issued an order approving a psychiatric examination of Coleman. Connelly noted the prosecution could seek a first-degree murder conviction against Coleman. A psychiatric exam might help determine whether she had the ability to form the intent to kill the child, which is a required element of first-degree murder, he said.

It is not clear when the case might go to trial. It is scheduled to begin on Nov. 14. However, it is not yet known how long it will take to obtain a mental evaluation of Tania Coleman. In addition, Coleman, 21, is pregnant and due to deliver her child on Nov. 17.

Tania Coleman told police the child died a month before her body was found, according to a search warrant for Tania Coleman's apartment. District Attorney Jack Daneri has said the evidence will show Tania Coleman left the child alone to starve to death in an apartment at 729 E. Eighth St.

OMG, I so didn't want this to be the case. That little girl all alone, starving to death, dying slowly. I am beyond horrified.

At least one statement Tania Coleman made to police about the death of her 14-month-old daughter cannot be used against her at trial.

Erie County Judge Shad Connelly has ruled that Erie police violated Coleman's right not to incriminate herself when they conducted the first of three interviews on May 24, the day the remains of Coleman's daughter Alayja were found in a suitcase in the 700 block of East Eighth Street.

Police first told Coleman, 21, that she was free to leave the interview at the police station. But later in the interview, when Coleman repeatedly asked to leave, they prevented her from doing so and continued to ask her questions, Connelly found.

The judge described what he witnessed in a video recording of the interview.

"The police then attempt to coerce her into staying by leaving the room, closing the door, and sending in a third officer when she knocks and opens the door and again asks to leave. This officer repeatedly continues to try and convince her to stay while denying her the ability to leave. The defendant's waiver of her Miranda rights and any statements given during this interview were clearly premised upon the false promise of being 'free to leave at any time' and were therefore involuntary," Connelly wrote.

The ruling came after Coleman's court-appointed lawyer, Jamie Mead, argued that Coleman agreed to speak to police under false pretenses. Coleman was not free to leave; she faced arrest on a homicide charge, he said.

"Under such circumstances, any sane person would have requested a lawyer," he wrote in his motion.
    [...]

The ruling, while a victory for the defense, might have no significant effect on the prosecution.

While Connelly threw out evidence obtained from this first interview, he also found that Coleman knowingly waived her rights and agreed to speak with police in interviews that occurred at 3:35 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on May 25.

In those interviews, Coleman understood, before waiving her rights, that she was not free to leave and was going to be charged with a crime, he said.

Connelly also postponed Coleman's trial until March. She had been scheduled to face trial in November, but she has yet to undergo a mental evaluation requested by the defense.

Coleman is also due to deliver a child in mid-November.

In the months since her death, 14-month-old Alayja Coleman's body has been stored in a suitcase -- which was dumped first in a garbage can and then in the street -- and then in a 40-degree cooler in the Erie County morgue.

The child might finally be laid to rest.

A long-awaited examination of Alayja's body by defense expert Dr. James Smith, of Beaver Falls, was performed Wednesday in the morgue.

On Thursday, District Attorney Jack Daneri filed for a court order to have the toddler's remains released from the morgue, where they had been held since June by court order.
    [...]

It was not immediately clear how final arrangements for the child's body might proceed.

After Alayja's death, disagreement arose among family members about how to proceed, Jeffrey Coleman, the child's grandfather, said Thursday.

After learning that Alayja's remains were going to be released, Jeffrey Coleman said he would try to get the burial proceedings restarted.

"I just want to see her get buried," he said. "There is no price for her life. The baby should have a proper burial."

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said he planned to return Alayja's body to Burton Funeral Homes, which had held her before she was transferred to the morgue.

If that is not possible, Cook said, he would be forced to begin proceedings for an unclaimed body. If no arrangements are made for the child, her body would be cremated at the county's expense and her ashes scattered, he said.

So, let me understand this. The bitch who bore Alayja had routine sex with and two babies by a boy in his mid-teens, took a break from him and had sex with an older man-felon who became the father of her third child. Said felonious bf went to prison, and bitch took up with her teen bf again, and another pregnancy. They either colluded to starve her youngest daughter, or just couldn't find the money to feed Alayja until the baby's father would pony up child support, which never came. They may have moved out of their apartment, leaving her to starve, or she was already dead and stuffed in a suitcase. Firefighters found her body in the suitcase, quite incidentally. The coroner then kept her body in the suitcase for several months, holding the body (and suitcase?) as possible evidence? The authorities are only now releasing her body to be buried.

    Does that wrap it up?

Aside from all the cussing, swearing, and throwing of various office objects at a poster board I pretend is her head, I think that's it.

The mental defect this bitch has is being a cretinous moron -- IQ does not apply. You know how they talk about the intelligence of animals, usually comparing them to children of some age? (Cats about the intelligence of a 3 year old, etc.) That sort of comparison doesn't even apply to this woman. She's a blowfly. Put out a pest strip and let her get stuck to it.

The only reason her body was held so long was because the DEFENSE wanted to have their own autopsy. They finally got around to it on Wednesday and the coroner released the body on Thursday. The remains would have been released months ago if the defense hadn't spent so much time pathologist shopping.

I Know, I think thats a bunch of BS. It's bad enough that this poor baby had such a rough life living with a couple of assholes& than couldn't even be put to rest in a timely mannor. IMO

Xavier Hollamon admitted Monday that police were correct when they said he helped his girlfriend, Tania Coleman, hide the body of her 14-month-old daughter in a suitcase that was put out with the trash.

Hollamon now plans to help the prosecution prove the charges against Coleman -- including the claim that she starved the child, Alayja Coleman, to death.

The move could reduce his maximum sentence from four years down to two years.

Hollamon, 20, pleaded guilty as charged Monday in Erie County Court to two second-degree misdemeanor counts of tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of two years each in prison.

In exchange for Hollamon's plea, however, prosecutors agreed not to oppose running those sentences concurrently, which could mean Hollamon will face two years maximum for his role in the disposal of Alayja's body in a trash can in May.

Hollamon must cooperate truthfully in the prosecution of Coleman, 21, who is scheduled to face trial on March 19, District Attorney Jack Daneri said.

The parties did not discuss in court what evidence Hollamon might provide.

He is not Alayja's father, but is the father of Coleman's three other children.
    [...]

Tania Coleman told police the child died a month before her body was found, according to court records. Daneri has said the evidence will show Tania Coleman left the child alone to starve to death in the apartment.

The defense recently conducted an independent review of Alayja's remains, possibly to challenge the findings of the county's forensic pathologist, Eric Vey, M.D., that she starved to death.

That was posted April 14th. Alayja's body was found 41 days later. He is the biological father of Coleman's 2 older kids (and supposedly her most recent addition). Coleman claims Alayja died a month before the discovery of the body. When that post was made, Alayja was somewhere... starving to death.
