Two 12-year-old boys left their mothers’ sides and walked to the front of a Halifax courtroom Thursday for their arraignment on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.

The girl and her eight-year-old brother were attacked by four boys at Fort Needham Park in north-end Halifax on the afternoon of April 25.

A knife was allegedly produced during the assault.

The attackers pulled down the girl’s pants and panties and simulated having sex with her with their pants on, sources say. There was digital penetration as well.

The boys also tried to get the girl’s little brother to sexually assault her, sources say. He refused and sat nearby crying.

The attackers fled the scene, near the Halifax Explosion monument, when a woman walking her dog came along.

Halifax Regional Police have said that all six children knew one another.

Two of the attackers were only 11, too young to be charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Not only sexual assault, but sexual assault with a weapon? How do these kids 1) come up with this shit and 2) think it is a good idea?

I've heard of similar things in England. It depends on who you ask for explanations, but I say the world is ending.

I am inclined to think that at this age it very well me be learned from something they have actually either experienced or witnessed in person. Not to say it in any way lessens the seriousness and severity of the actions. Something I would think the investigators should be checking into though.
