I'm not a violent person. Then I read this shit.

Stabbing is so disturbing and brutal and personal. I'm not saying any kind of murder is any more acceptable than another. But much like punching a baby in the face, I can't wrap my mind around stabbing one. Anyone that can stab an infant should be locked away or shot in the face, because there is no rehablitation. You just can't come back from stabbing a baby. And stabbing your own sweet child? OMG!

Snorting bath salts, a bad eleven day tweaker binge, fucking schizophrenic, possessed by the devil himself - I give not a shit. Somone push the EPIC FAIL button and send the bitch to Hell.

When I read about a woman abandoning her baby on a doorstep, it's cases like this that make me think, "Well, maybe that wasn't so bad."

The whole "personal" nature of stabbing make me think that perhaps this was an act of revenge on the father. She wanted this baby dead. It doesn't sound like a heat-of-the-moment thing because the baby was crying; that usually results in shaking. She had to actually grab a knife and think for a moment what she was going to do. Very deliberate act.

Post partum can make you think and do some crazy shit. I feared that shit after giving birth. I had a mild case of PPD. It was very, very mild. I would cry when my 2nd son was born, because I felt that the new baby was trying to take the love away from my 1st baby. Yup crazy shit, I tell you. It took me over a month of that crap to realize my heart was big enough to love both babies. It makes sense to me now, but back then it was impossible for me to make sense of it.

A six week old baby is pretty tiny still. If she "stabbed" the baby numerous times, I seriously think there would be nothing left for baby to survive. "Jabby hesitation stabby" I could see.

That's nice. I like you TT, but have you ever had really bad postpartum depression? I have, which is why i have some sympathy for her.

I wouldn't say I had PPD. I was certainly more emotional and maudlin than usual, and had some icky thoughts, after my first child was born. I've been treated for depression, so I have a clue. My point, should you accept it, is that adults should exhibit some self-awareness and realize that they're "out of control" or "not feeling like themselves", and get some help before they let the little voices in their heads control their actions. As widely publicized as depression and PPD are, you'd think that people would suspect it when they start to think destructively.

I know, I know. Not many people seem to, though. The ones we read about here seem to get off on their wild acting out and nothing will stop them doing it again and again, until they get caught and sent to prison.

It is a mental illness. I had it bad enough my husband at the time had to take 2 weels off of work. I knew i was in a bad way but i didn't tell my midwife, even though she flat out asked me if i was depressed. You wanna know why? In my deluded thinking i thought if i admitted to being anything but awesome, then i was a bad mother and someone would take him away from me.

The point being by the time it gets to planning how to off that screaming menace to your sanity you aren't sane anymore.

Nell, when have we ever let the fact or suspicion of mental illness excuse a child murderer or beater?

Well, I don't know about how often you have, but PPD is something i have considered as a mitigating circumstance. Personally.

In true cases of PPD, I am sympathetic. It IS a mental illness and it does have the ability to cause someone to do things they wouldn't normally do. It frustrates me when someone who had a mild case of PPD pretends to know what it's like to be full on PPD. Just because one person doesn't have harmful thoughts doesn't mean another one won't. (this isn't directly at anyone on this thread)

Too often people use PPD as an excuse to get away with murder, abuse, etc but in legitimate cases there should be some leniency. I have never experienced PPD but i've seen first hand the effects that it can cause.

When I was younger the woman in the house next to us had a baby, her husband was a doctor and worked long hours. She was an attorney but left her practice to care for the baby. They hired another girl on our street (her parents were both professors) to come over to the house to watch over the baby while the mother showered and napped.

One day the girl showed up to watch the baby and she found the baby alone in her crib...she went looking for the mom and found her in the downstairs theater watching cartoons butt ass naked...the mother had pulled every strand of hair out of her hair. She was completely bald, bleeding scalp and everything. The baby wasn't harmed but the mom was obviously not in her right mind. She would have never done something like that had she not been suffering from PPD.

She had went to her dr prior to her breakdown and told the dr that she felt like she was suffering from depression and he told her PPD is typically a poor womans disorder and he refused to treat her. She may not have hurt her baby but she definitely wasn't in her right mind.

@Tundratot I agree with your statement.

My issue is this: If we are to have sympathy for these women who suffer PPD, then why not for all the others who have committed terrible crimes because of their mental illnesses. There have been plenty of males with Schizophrenia (legitimate Mental Illness) on here who have killed. Certainly don't have the same level of sympathy this female is being showed. Just sayin....

Be very glad you never had PPD bad. Very thankful. Unless you have had it you have no idea what you would consider doing or do.

I have sympathy for men with mental illnesses as well...I wouldn't let any of these people babysit and I don't think their crimes should be ignored but I do sympathize and feel they should get help rather than the painful deaths I would like to inflict on people who willingly and consciously hurt others.

There is a lot more to this story than PPD. This woman is/was on meth
WTF ...She gave birth to a still born because of her meth use in March 2009.

    From the front page
Shroyer went on to say that though she is aware of her daughter’s struggle with meth, she’s positive that Danielle is no longer under the influence of the drug. She then praised her daughter’s awesome parenting skills, claiming Danielle is a “wonderful mother,” one of those “picture-perfect mothers” you just don’t see much of anymore.

I have no opinion either way in regards to if this particular woman suffered from PPD or not. I don't know her or her history. I do know that there is a lil baby fighting for her life when she should be home snuggled up in the arms of parents who love and adore her. A baby that will carry scars that her mother inflicted on her for the rest of her life, assuming she survives. Fuck I hate people.

Mother goes before judge for allegedly stabbing baby

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The woman accused of stabbing her 6-week-old daughter made her court debut Tuesday.
Danielle Mailloux, 24, allegedly stabbed her baby numerous times with a "kitchen-type knife" Sunday at their home on the 1300 block of Crawford Street, Kern County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ray Pruitt said.

The baby's father found the injured infant and called authorities, Pruitt said.

The girl, who was eventually taken to Children's Hospital Central California in Madera, is expected to survive.

Mailloux's arraignment was continued until May 26 to give her time to retain a private attorney. She will be charged with attempted murder and inflicting injury on a child.
    [...]
Investigators haven't said why Mailloux allegedly stabbed her baby, and it's unknown if drugs played a role in the alleged attack. Mailloux, however, does have a history with drugs.

Eyewitness News obtained reports showing Mailloux was investigated in 2009 when she had a stillborn baby.
Bakersfield police were called at that time because of unusual circumstances surrounding the death, according to the Kern County coroner's office report. Officers questioned both the mother and father, and the autopsy showed the infant died because of drug exposure through the womb.

The stillborn baby had methamphetamine in its system, but the Kern County District Attorney's Office determined the death did not meet the legal definition of murder of a fetus.
Mailloux was never charged with that baby's death.

Bad or severe cases of PPD (postpartum depression), are more common and baby blues, almost all woman get a bit of that. Fewer than 20% of woman who actually know there is something wrong with them seek help, 1-2 in 1000 are actually diagnosed with it.
I had severe case of PPD (depression), and it was by far the worst experience I ever went through on an emotional level. It was brought on by trauma and illness directly after giving birth. An evil bitch to contend with and I do feel sympathy for a woman like Otty Sanchez , with a severe case of PPP, who literally ate her baby (Scotty). Still, I could not help but be in utter disgust and horror beside her being ill. I think that is why in part, as woman we don't want to tell anyone, we want to be this 'awesome' mother as is expect to be...it's under our skin to endure any and everything and fear not meeting those expectations.

This woman, I really have no sympathy for. Even IF she has a case of PPP, she probably brought it on with the meth shit she abused and exposed to her other baby as it was stillborn. She should have closed up shop and called it a fail, over and out saved this baby of the horror she inflicted on it.

I'm stunned that the baby survived. Stunned.
I hope baby goes on to heal completely and lead a good life, loved.

A woman accused of stabbing her 6-week-old daughter pleaded no contest Tuesday to a felony count of inflicting injury upon a child, according to the Kern County Superior Court website.

A charge of attempted murder was dismissed in exchange for Danielle Mailloux's plea, the website says. Mailloux is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 16.

Mailloux, 24, allegedly stabbed and cut Aubrey Ragina Mailloux numerous times, according to Kern County Sheriff's Department reported filed in court. Aubrey suffered injuries including multiple stab wounds to her back, a severe laceration to the left side of her abdomen, cuts to her jaw and neck and bruising on the top of her head.

She survived the May 15 attack.

Danielle Mailloux gave birth to a stillborn baby in 2009, a death the Kern County coroner's office attributed to Mailloux's methamphetamine abuse. No charges were filed in that case because the child never lived outside the womb, prosecutors have said.
