DETROIT -- Two men are accused of committing an armed robbery, carjacking a pickup truck and leading police on a chase that ended when they got stuck in the mud.
Brownstown police said Patrick Smith and John Hollins are accused of carjacking a man last Friday while he was buying milk at a 7-Eleven store on Allen and Sibley roads. They said Smith had a .45-caliber handgun.
A woman who was pumping gas nearby witnessed the carjacking and called 911, police said. They said she followed the men and gave officers information until they caught up with the men.
A police chase ensued through Taylor and Southgate, which included the pickup ramming into another car to get through an intersection, police said.
The chase ended on Pennsylvania Road near Interstate 275 when a train crossing prevented the suspects from going any farther, police said. They said the two tried to drive off the road but got stuck in the mud.
Smith and Hollins are facing a slew of charges, including armed robbery, felony firearm, assault with a motor vehicle and fleeing and eluding.
