Clifton - A Clifton woman is under arrest charged with causing serious bodily injury to a young girl. Dianeth Pittman was arrested Monday for what investigators are calling the most severe case of child abuse, in their 24 years on the job.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says Pittman was babysitting a 4-year-old girl. The girl says she slammed her to the floor, jerked her up by the arms, and slammed her face against a wall multiple times.

She also had a burn on her stomach.
Pittman allegedly told the girl to lie, and say another kid hit her with a toy.

CLIFTON, Colo. (KKCO) - A Clifton woman is behind bars, facing multiple charges in what authorities are calling one of the worst cases of child abuse they've ever seen.

39-year-old Dianeth Pittman is being held at the Mesa County Jail without bond. She was arrested Monday on two counts of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, a class three felony.

According to an arrest affidavit, the girl -- who authorities and 11 News will not identify -- told deputies Pittman was angry recently and threw her to the ground, causing her face to strike the floor. She says when she was on the ground, Pittman picked her up forcefully by the arms and shoved her into the wall.

A pediatric doctor noted she had several bruises, a black eye, and swelling on the top of her head that indicated "blunt force trauma." In his report, he marked the injuries posed a "substantial risk of death" and "substantial risk of permanent disfigurement."

When asked about other incidents, the girl showed investigators a scar on her abdomen and told them Pittman had heated a knife, placed it on her skin, and "branded" her there. She said Pittman told her is she misbehaved or told anyone, she would be burned again.

Mesa County Coroner Dr. Dean Havlick examined photos of the scar and said the injury would fit the category of a second or third degree burn, and posed a "substantial risk of permanent disfigurement."

"In my 24 years in law enforcement, I've never seen this severe abuse of a child," said Sgt. Henry Stoffel, an investigator in the MCSO Complex Crimes Unit.

That crazy bitch had it in her head she could get away with this. Maybe because of it going so smooth about the burning that lil bits tummy. Pittman's two charges of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury are both felonies.

And if I met with a potential babysitter and she looked like that, I would run the other way, and cancel my plans if I couldn't find another.

And I hope they take that baby from her, if she is indeed pregnant, if she did that to a school age child that can delay gratification, I shudder to think what she will do with an infant that cannot and should not be expected to delay gratification. If they don't take that baby, I predict sometime before Christmas-time, she'll appear here again.

County Court Judge Bruce Raaum ordered Pittman held at the Mesa County Jail on $150,000 bond. Pittman is currently serving probation stemming from a 2010 domestic-violence case. According to court records, she has misdemeanor convictions stemming from a 2008 theft case and possession of drug paraphernalia from 2010.

An arrest warrant affidavit said Pittman, who lives at 463 Topaz Drive, Unit B, originally told deputies early in the investigation that injured child had been struck by another child with a Barbie play barbecue pit. On Thursday, Pittman told deputies she caused the injuries, not another child. Pittman said she tripped the girl out of anger after arguing with her husband over the phone. The trip caused the child to fall forward and hit her face and head on the corner of a kitchen counter, Pittman told investigators.

how could the parents not notice the injuries? Even if they were blind, she had to act afraid around her. Hell, I fired my babysitter because my son didntwant her to hold him....

It costs 8 fucking goddamn dollars to get a background check. 8 dollars could have saved so many lives....

I agree that she looks scary, but that's probably because she is being booked for child abuse in that photo. I'm sure she looked a hell of a lot friendlier in her interview and when she was around the parents.

A Clifton woman was sentenced this morning to 20 years in prison for what a senior Mesa County prosecutor called a “parade of horribles” child abuse case involving the woman’s own daughter, who was repeatedly burned by her mother with a heated knife.

Dianeth Pittman, 41, who laughed with attorneys while at one point rolling her eyes as a prosecutor addressed the court, stipulated to the 20-year prison term after pleading guilty to a single count of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

Pittman explained she was pleading guilty, “not because I actually did this, but I don’t want to put my daughter through a trial.”

Under the terms of a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office, Pittman avoided a potentially longer prison sentence as prosecutors dismissed 14 other charges, including sexual assault on a child. Pittman’s last-minute plea deal comes as she was scheduled for trial starting on Monday. While District Judge Richard Gurley said he found the plea agreement “acceptable,” he suggested he’d impose tougher penalties had they been allowed under the deal.

“You shouldn’t be alone with a child again as far as I’m concerned,” the judge said before imposing the 20-year term.

Assistant District Attorney Rich Tuttle said his office agreed to the deal in order to spare the victim in the case — now 10 and living in a Colorado Department of Human Services facility in Denver — from having to testify in next week’s scheduled trial.
