LOS ANGELES -- A former Maywood police officer was arrested and charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting three women while he was on duty, the district attorney's office said.
Ryan Allen West, 28, who was the Maywood Police Department's K-9 officer until March was arrested at his home in Riverside County, said Deputy District Attorney Margo Baxter.
West is charged with 12 felony counts, including rape, assault by a public officer, burglary and sexual assault. He is being held on $665,000 bail.
Maywood, a tiny city in southeastern Los Angeles County, has been dogged by allegations of police corruption.
Officer-misconduct investigations are under way by state and county prosecutors.
The alleged crimes charged against West occurred while he was in uniform and on duty between September 2006 and May 2007, Baxter said.
The district attorney's Justice System Integrity Division began an investigation last year after a woman went to a hospital and reported she had been raped by an officer.
The investigation turned up two more alleged victims. All three are all in their 30s.
If convicted of all 12 charges, West faces up to 24 years in prison.
