Authorities went to the Sheepshead Bay apartment of 56-year-old Tatyana Prikhodko to look for her daughter, 28-year-old Larisa Prikhodko, who had been reported missing. That's when they made the horrifying discovery.
The victims were both stabbed multiple times inside the sixth floor apartment on East 13th Street.
Their bodies were found at around 11:15 p.m., though it is unclear when the women were murdered.
Larisa was stabbed multiple times in the stomach, while Tatyana was stabbed multiple times to the torso and face. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors say the pair lived in the apartment with Larisa's young son. On Sunday night, police say a family member called to report Larisa missing.
The double murder shocked residents of the apartment building. The building superintendent knocked on doors at around midnight, telling residents to stay in their apartments.

Larisa Prikhodko 27-year-old and her mother, Tatyana, 56, were found with stab wounds to their faces and bodies after police broke down the door to their Sheepshead bay apartment on Sunday evening.
When police smashed their way into the apartment they found one body near the door and another in the bathroom.
There was no sign of forced entry and police are desperately trying to locate Tatyana's missing husband , who is Larisa's step-father.

He said: 'Me and a group of friends would play football across from her building and we would stop and see her coming out and get into nice cars all the time.
'We all asked ourselves, 'Jesus Christ, who is this girl. What is she doing here'.
'You don't see girls like her around here like that very often.'
Another neighbour told the paper Miss Prihodko was: 'Living with her mum and they weren't sending the son to day care because they took turns caring for him.
'They always went to the playground. The baby was well taken care of.'
