A mother has been jailed after allegedly allowing her toddler daughter to play with a loaded handgun.
Wendy Fuentes was filmed handing a Glock pistol to her three year old and laughing as she said: 'Show me how you point the gun at mommy.'
Police said the handgun, the type which is commonly used by law enforcement officers and was the same kind of handgun fired by Tucson shooter Jared Loughner, was loaded.
Fuentes, 20, was charged with child abuse as police in Arizona launched an investigation into how she came into possession of the handgun.
According to an arrest warrant police came across the video and photos after being granted a search warrant to examine a car belonging to Luis Bautista-Ortega on a separate matter.
During the search of the vehicle police found the camera with the incriminating photos and video.
Detectives recognised Ortega’ apartment in Phoenix, Arizona, and went to investigate the alleged gun play involving the mother and her daughter.
Fuentes began to cry when questioned by police, according to the arrest warrant and claimed she did not know the gun was loaded.
Officers did not locate the gun, but the gun's loaded extended magazine was confiscated from the apartment.
Fuentes has been held in jail since making her first court appearance.
Police did not reveal why they were executing a search warrant on Ortega.
