Kimberly Hood & Thomas Kelly have a dead child on their hands

The mother of a McComb toddler and her boyfriend are in police custody in connection with that child's death.

According to the McComb Enterprise Journal, Kimberly Hood, 25, and her boyfriend, Thomas Kelly, 22, are charged with felony child abuse.

Pike County authorities responded to a report of a child not breathing last week.

When deputies arrived, two-year-old Markquice Hood was lying on a bed. The child appeared to be malnourished and had been dead for some time. The toddler was declared dead at the scene.

The investigation continues into the death and pending autopsy results could mean additional charges.

Hood and Kelly are being held without bond in the Pike County Jail.

That is disgusting. Who forgets to feed a kid? They are quite vocal when hungry.

Kimberly nor Thomas look like they have missed any meals!!!
If ya would of pushed your fat asses away from the table or missed a meal and gave it to your child maybe he would be alive today!!

I'm assuming charges are pending on the autopsy.
How do you not feed your child to the point they die?????
My 3 year old is constantly snacking and telling her to wait a minute drives me so crazy I happily give her something, anything to eat so she'll be quiet just for a minute while I prepare her next snack!

A man charged in the apparent starvation death of a 2-year-old boy pleaded guilty to manslaughter and child neglect shortly before his trial was to begin in Pike County Circuit Court.

Judge David Strong sentenced Thomas Kelly on Tuesday to the maximum 10 years in prison with a $1,000 fine on the felonious child neglect charge, but withheld sentencing on manslaughter until the case of Kelly’s co-defendant is resolved, according to the Enteprise-Journal.

Assistant District Attorney Rodney Tidwell read a statement by Kelly in which he said Markqice was always a “skinny” child. He said he never saw Kimberly abuse Markqice, but she did discipline him with hand and belt.

A family member called the Department of Human Services, whose case worker determined Markqice was naturally small for his age, according to Kelly’s statement.

Kelly said one morning the child appeared to be sick, and he suggested Hood take Markqice to the hospital but she refused, saying she might be accused of abuse.

“I think the statement shows he allowed this to go on. The mother didn’t give adequate food to the child. He knew about it. He didn’t report,” Tidwell said.

Defense attorney Bill Goodwin said he had been trying to convince Kelly to plead guilty for his own good. Prosecutors had said they would seek the death penalty if the case went to trial.

“Thomas did the right thing,” Goodwin said. “He pled to what he was guilty of.”

Kimberly Hood, 27, of McComb, had been indicted for capital murder and conspiracy last year in connection with the May 16, 2008, death of her 2-year-old son, Markqice Hood, apparently by starvation.

This morning Hood pleaded guilty to manslaughter and felonious child abuse in Pike County Circuit Court.

Judge David Strong sentenced her to the maximum 20 years on manslaughter and to 50 years for child abuse, suspended 10 years, and ordered the sentences to run concurrently. He also fined her $10,000 and court costs.

He was probably so damn small 'cause he was never fed well since a baby. Not only was she starving baby, she was a mean bitch beating on him. And the useless "man" in the house did nothing. The family member got involved enough to call CPS but never noticed that Marqice was not looking so well? I just got to wonder you know as that person might have been the only one to make a real difference as we know CPS sucks balls.

So Marqice died on the bed alone. Likely ill and whimpering until he had no more in him. My heart breaks for you little one.

More jail time for man convicted in child's death
BROOKHAVEN — A man convicted in the starvation death of a 2-year-old boy has been sentenced to an additional 14 years.
Thomas Kelly pleaded guilty in March to manslaughter and felonious child neglect in the May 2008 death of Markqice Hood.

Judge David Strong sentenced Kelly then to 10 years on the child neglect charge, but delayed sentencing on manslaughter until the case was resolved against Kelly's co-defendant and the child's mother, Kimberly Hood.
Hood was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty last week to manslaughter and felonious child abuse.

I live in Alabama and I am so used to the southern states letting down these poor children. I am sooo proud of the State of Mississippi for giving this poor starving baby some justice. God bless him and I hope his is sitting at the head of God's bountiful table of food up in heaven eating till his little heart's content!
