(TIPTON COUNTY, TN 5/20/2008) A Tipton County couple is behind bars tonight after sheriff's deputies say they were operating a meth lab out of their house. The couple was living there with their 2 young children.
34-year-old Dannell Quinton and her husband, 28-year-old Marlon Quinton, were arrested Monday. Deputies say Dannell, has a history of meth. In fact, she was already on probation for federal drug charges.
"This meth lab had the two idiots with the two children, a 1-year-old and a 5-year-old in more than deplorable conditions," said Tipton County Sheriff, J.T. "Pancho" Chumley.
The couple was charged with child abuse, and intent to make meth.
News Channel3 obtained pictures of the inside of the couple's home. You can see meth-making materials scattered amidst the trash and toys. Stuff like pseudoephedrine and ammonium nitrate.
Someone even labeled a bottle "toxic" and then left it lying near the bed.
"The children were playing right beside it," said Sheriff Chumley. "Syringes and needles were right there. The children were walking through some of the chemicals."
Hazmat crews tested the carpet and found the level of toxicity highly dangerous. They confiscated several containers with the drug still in the cooking process. Sheriff Chumley says the house was literally a time bomb, ready to explode in the middle of a neighborhood filled with families.
Boxes that were supposed to hold pop tarts were filled with syringes. Everywhere you look, there were signs of neglect. The kids' mattresses were soiled with urine and piles of human feces.
