CALVERT CITY, KY (KFVS) - A mother has been arrested after police found her two small children on the interstate.

Cynthia Palmer, 29, was arrested after she told police she snorted bath salts while caring for her children, said Trooper Dean Patterson.

Drivers contacted police after seeing two small children on the roadway.

When police arrived, they discovered a 2-year-old child lying on the inside edge of the westbound lanes of I-24.

The police found that the child had cuts to the back of the head.

Officers also found a woman walking east in the meridian carrying a 5-year-old child. Police later found out that this was the mother of the children.

Palmer was traveling to Fort Campbell, Tenn. with her two small children. Palmer told troopers that she had ben snorting bath salts and began to hallucinate while driving, said investigators.

The woman says she dropped her 2-year-old on the road and left him. It is believed this is what caused the head injury to the child, according to the trooper's report.

The 2-year-old was taken to Kosair's Children's Hospital in Louisville. The 5-year-old was not injured and was taken into custody by Tenn. Social Services, according to the KSP.

Palmer, the mother, is charged with assault in the 1st degree, wanton endangerment in the 1st degree and public intoxication. She was taken to the Marshall Co. Jail.

So far this month, the Missouri Poison Center at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center has received 12 calls about teenagers and young adults abusing the chemicals, compared with eight calls for all of 2010. The powders sold as "Ivory Snow," "Bliss," "Vanilla Sky" and other brand names are not common bath salts and contain the ingredients MDPV or mephedrone, stimulants that can cause rapid heart rates, seizures and hallucinations.
Truck stops, tattoo parlors and tobacco shops sell the substances in 50-milligram packets for $25 to $50 each, according to an alert issued last month by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The powders described as "fake cocaine" have appeared in the last year in stores that previously sold the now-illegal synthetic marijuana products known as K2 and Spice, law enforcement officials said.

damnit! this is where the 'war on drugs' has taken us. expect to see more of this crazy horse shit popping up 'cause its legal 'till someones kid od's on it and they get some kinda fuck-up law passed. then the next time someone turns to you and says 'so, what are you in here for', you can look at them with a straight face and say 'bath-salts'. i can't wait until the next new thing comes out...will it be bread crumbs? tile cleaner? who the fuck knows. but apparently folks like to get high, and fuckin a if they would just leave the pot alone you wouldn't have this shit.

They are now the youngest millionaires in the world. The children were left in the loving care of their father. They will never have to worry or want for anything as long as they live.
