BEECHGROVE, Tenn. -- The state of Tennessee issued an endangered child alert on Monday afternoon after a 13-year-old girl left home with her 2-month-old child.

The mother of the teen found that Brianna Nicole Jones had left their Coffee County home at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday without permission.

The mother reported that Jones had taken her 2-month-old son with her as well.

Authorities believe that Jones is headed to Florida, possibly to the baby's father's residence. Police said the father of the infant is believed to be a man by the name of Matthew Fults.

Jones was last seen wearing a black shirt with gray tribal design on her right shoulder and blue jeans.

Those with information in this case should call the Coffee County Sheriff's Department at 931-728-3591.

CLEARWATER BEACH - Three of five people struck by lightning at Clearwater Beach remained hospitalized Sunday, one in critical condition.

The bolt struck Saturday evening and knocked three people unconscious. A pregnant woman also was hit. She lost sensation in her arms and legs.

Two of the victims, Darrell Fults, 22, and Casey Douglas, 19, both of Franklin, Tenn., were taken to Morton Plant Hospital, said Joel Gray, division chief for Clearwater Fire Rescue.

Fults was in critical condition but improving Sunday, said Gentry Fox, his stepfather, who drove from Smyrna, Tenn. Douglas was in good condition.

"When we got here, Darrell was on a respirator and in a medically induced comatose condition," Fox said. "They have removed the respirator. He has regained consciousness. He is confused ... but after an event like that, who wouldn't be?"

Fults and Douglas, who are engaged and have a 1-month old son, were at the beach with Fults' cousin, Matthew Fults, 21, of Brandon. Matthew Fults helped the pregnant woman, Susan Darquea, out of the water. He was treated at Morton Plant and released Saturday night.

Darquea was taken to Largo Medical Center, transferred to Bayfront Medical and later released. Another victim, as yet unidentified, was taken to Largo Medical.

The lightning struck about 5 p.m., Gray said. The bolt flickered for about three seconds.

Witnesses said Darrell Fults was in waist-deep water when he was hit. His arms went up and the electricity appeared to lift him out of the water. When the bolt disappeared, he dropped back in the water. Bystanders performed CPR on the three unconscious victims. Several flagged down a fire truck that had been on the beach's roundabout when the bolt hit.

"The patients had care within a minute and a half of having been struck," Gray said. "They were trying to treat these people out in the open and there's still lightning banging around."

Fox, an assistant fire chief in Franklin, Tenn., called the event "freakish."

Clearwater fire Chief Jamie Geer, who was the chief in Franklin before coming to Clearwater last year, told Fox there were four lightning strikes in the area around that time.

The teen's mother, Misty Jones, reported that her daugther took her 2-month-old son, Michael Adian Wayne Jones, with her as well. Misty Jones said she found a 4-page letter early Monday moring that said Brianna was leaving and not to look for her.

Authorities believe that Jones is headed to Tampa, Fla., possibly to the baby's father's residence.

Police said the father of the infant is believed to be a man by the name of Matthew Fults.

Brianna was on probation for shoplifting, and her family said she might be afraid that her son will be taken away from her.

Of course she has a messed up life! She's a 13 year old baby with a baby! For fuck sake what the hell have the parents done to this child? Or rather NOT done?! At what point did mommy and daddy NOT know about "baby daddy"? Or what the hell she was doing? *sigh* It is truly sad.

I have a teenager, she understands her place in our home and has all her life. At least the parents/grandparents were trying to help (maybe) and she seems to care about the baby (she took it with her and was worried about losing it). So perhaps there is something positive out of all this.

I hope this ends better than the high potential.

Missing 13-year-old mom, infant son found in Florida

A 13-year-old girl and her infant son were found Monday night in the Tampa, Fla., area, a day after the girl apparently ran away from her home in Coffee County, taking the baby with her, authorities said.

Brianna Nicole Jones and her 2-month-old son, Michael Adian Wayne Jones, are in the custody of Florida's child protection agency this morning, said Investigator Bill Marcom of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department.

The teen will face runaway charges and probation violation charges when she is returned to Tennessee, according to Marcom. He said he didn't know why the girl is on probation.

The teen’s mother discovered that the girl had left her home in Beechgrove, Tenn., on Sunday night, taking the baby with her, according to an endangered child alert issued by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department.

“She was worried about losing the kid,” Marcom said, and she was thought to be headed to Florida to meet up with the child's father.

I know Liz, that disturbs me also. This girl has an array of psychological issues thats pretty clear. I just hope she is street smart and that she knows how to care for her baby.

OK More details would be really nice here. How did a 13 year old and a 2 month old travel accross a couple states in a day?? Someone had to have helped her.
