Gwinnett County police have charged a 28-year-old man in the stabbing deaths of 1- and 3-year-old boys found dead in a house near Lawrenceville Wednesday night.

Antonio Cardenas-Rico is being held in the Gwinnett Detention Center without bond in the attack, which also left two other family members seriously injured.

Cpl. Jake Smith said investigators are still interviewing the dead boys' mother, who was not home at the time of the attack.

Police did not give details on how they caught up with Cardenas-Rico. They said tips led them to a home at 3020 Arden Ridge Drive in Suwanee overnight.

Officers watched the house before moving in on Cardenas-Rico, who was arrested without a fight eight to 10 hours after the attack.

Police said Cardenas-Rico was known to the victim's family, but how they knew each another was unclear.

Police charged Cardenas-Rico with killing 3-year-old Bradley Garcia and 1-year-old Edward Garcia. Another 3-year-old boy was stabbed and was critically wounded. Elvis Garcia, 23, identified as the boys' father or stepfather, was stabbed multiple times and was in serious condition.

"This one shocks the conscience a little bit due to the innocence and youth of the victims," Smith said. "We haven't seen one like this in quite some time."

About 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a 911 call at 1110 Bridle Path Drive in the Huntington Falls subdivision. Officers found the two boys, ages 1 and 3, in the house's finished basement. Another 3-year-old boy was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta in critical condition.

Elvis Garcia was taken by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center.

After the attack, Elvis Garcia ran across the street and screamed to his neighbor, "He killed my children!" the neighbor told the AJC.

The father came charging into Lewon Thomas' garage "with a hole in his chest," holding a cell phone and talking to a 911 operator, Thomas said.

"He wanted me to go back and see what happened," said Thomas, who went along with another neighbor. "It was horrific."

Thomas said the father believed he knew who was responsible.

"He said it was the ex-boyfriend" of his girlfriend, Thomas said.

Police initially said the victims had been stabbed or shot. But on Thursday they said there were no gunshot wounds and that two of the boys were 3, not 4.

Two Children Found Dead; Father, Third Child Injured In Attack

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Gwinnett County police said they have the person accused of murdering two children in custody.

Late Wednesday night, police searched for the man who murdered two young brothers and seriously wounded another brother and their dad. Police said the gruesome discovery was made at a home on Bridle Path Drive in Lawrenceville.
Police arrested 28-year-old Antonio Cardenas-Rico. He is charged with two counts of murder. Cardenas-Rico is currently in custody without bond.

Upon arrival, officers found 23-year-old Elvis Garcia outside with multiple stab wounds.
Inside the basement of the residence, officers discovered 3-year-old Bradley Garcia and 1-year-old Edward Garcia. They had both been stabbed and were dead. A third child 3-year-old child had also been stabbed and was in critical condition.

Police cars lined the streets of the Huntington Falls subdivision while police said a helicopter flew overhead to make sure a killer wasn't still lurking in the neighborhood.
“It came in as a 911 call,” said Cpl. Jake Smith.

Police said two brothers, ages 1 and 4, were found dead in the basement of the home. Another 4-year-old brother was rushed to the hospital in a helicopter. Late Wednesday night he was in critical condition.
“I mean, it will take your breath away. What can you say? It's ridiculous someone would do that,” said neighbor Jimmy Holland.
Neighbors said the boys’ dad or stepdad was also wounded, but he escaped and knocked on a neighbor’s door for help. He's was also in the hospital Wednesday night.
“Hopefully it's an isolated incident. Its not something that's going to be coming off going forward. It’s just very sad,” said neighbor Ron George.

Police said two families were living in the home. The family that was attacked lived in a basement apartment. The kids' mother and other siblings weren't home at the time.

“I can only imagine how they're going to feel, because as neighbors, it's shock,” said Holland.

Elvis Garcia had gone to police February 2 to file complaints against a man with the last name Cardenas.

The suspect arrested in the stabbings is 27-year-old Antonio Cardenas-Rico.

According to a police report, Garcia and the mother of the children had broken up and were fighting over custody.

No charges were filed or arrest warrants taken out at the time because Garcia had neither witnesses nor physical evidence of Cardenas' alleged threat--"I will killl you"--at the time. The AJC reports that a reporting officer recommended that Garcia move to a place where the man making the threats could not find him. He apparently temporarily moved in with his sister, but then came back to the Huntington Falls subdivision.

Seven days after the complaint was filed by Garcia, police were called to a home on Bridle Path Drive.

Officers found one- and three-year-old boys stabbed to death, and another three-year-old critically injured. Elvis Garcia, who was also stabbed, remains hospitalized.

Stacey Bourbonnais of the Gwinnett County Jail says Garcia is being uncooperative with jailers. "We're just having some disciplinary problems with him. He's not cooperating, he's not doing the things we expect of our inmates. So he is in our maxmum security unit where he will remain until he can follow the rules."

Garcia, 23, is charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault. His arrest Saturday came after police exonerated Cardenas-Rico, 27, in the killings.

Antonio Cardenas-Rico -- cleared of the shocking murders of two Gwinnett County children -- spoke out after he was cleared of the stabbings.

"I didn't do anything. I didn't do anything," said Antonio Cardenas-Rico.

That was the message Antonio Cardenas-Rico wanted to get out. Sunday night, the former murder suspect talked with FOX 5 News from the Gwinnett County Jail.

"Prayed to God in order that this would come out," said Cardenas-Rico.

Last week, police arrested Cardenas-Rico and charged him with killing Bradley Garcia, 1, and his brother Edward, 3. Edward's twin Joshua was also critically wounded in the attack.

"I would never hurt a child. I would never hurt a child," said Cardenas-Rico.

At the time the children's father Elvis Noe Garcia, who was also stabbed, pointed the finger at Cardenas-Rrico. And no mater how many times the 27-year-old told police he was innocent, they didn't believe him.

"I didn't do anything. So I didn't know what I was in for."

Police now think Elvis Garcia stabbed himself to throw them off track and frame Cardenas-Rrico.

"He set me up. He is a crazy person."

Cleared of murder, Cardenas-Rico is still being held because he faces marijuana charges and an immigration hold.

"I'll probably get deported from here because of this. Not my fault, you know."

According to police, Cardenas Rico was romantically involved with the little boys' mother. He is married and didn't want to talk about their relationship Sunday. But he did say she was a kind woman and that he feels for her, saying that no one should have to deal with the death of a child – of not only one, but two.

Well, not surprised the authorities looked at him first giving his connection to the mother of the babies and that the father was injured. Garcia sure made it out to look like this Cardenas-Ricos was guilty. Sick, sick individual to even contemplate such brutal, unforgivable crime. The DA will be seeking the death penalty, but really, I'm hoping some mean motherfucker takes him down in prison.
