Missing 9-year-old Amy Dye, Found Beaten to death 100 yards from home

GUTHRIE, Ky-. A missing 9-year-old girl has been found dead. Kentucky State Police say Amy Dye, a 4th grader at South Todd Elementary School, was reported missing Friday night.

The family lives along Dogwood Drive near Guthrie in Todd County. Investigators said her body was found just after midnight under brush about 100 yards from her home.

The family was grieving Saturday evening. And with no suspects, there had certainly been no arrests made in this case by Saturday night.

An autopsy indicated the little girl died from blunt force trauma; investigators say the test showed she suffered from multiple blows. This evidence leads investigators to call her death a homicide.

The husband and wife are not the child's biological parents. The child was related to the wife and legally adopted by the couple.

Investigators were talking to Dye's parents Saturday night.

It could be a hit-n-run but would be very odd that the body flew past the end of a road.

At least eight KSP officers were at the scene near Dogwood Lane between Trenton and Guthrie early this morning. The girl's family reportedly lives on that road.

KSP spokesman Stu Recke said his agency received a call from the Todd County Sheriff's Department at 10:20 p.m. CST Friday requesting help with a missing person's report for the girl. Two hours later, Todd County officials called KSP and requested detectives be sent because the girl had been found dead.

The girl's body was found in an area past the dead end of Dogwood Lane.

At 2:15 a.m., two state troopers and a state fish and wildlife officer walked a few hundred yards along a gravel drive with flashlights and searched for something on the ground and in adjacent fields. They did not appear to find anything.

A few minutes later, KSP requested generators from the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department to power outdoor lights. They decided later they would not need the lights, said Recke.

Around 3:30 a.m., the Todd County Sheriff's Department drove a man and a woman in separate sheriff's cruisers from the scene of the death investigation to the Trenton City Hall for questioning.

Recke said he did not know if they were family members or suspects. Their names have not been released.

I'm thinking the two people in the cruisers were the parents. I guess I'm just suspicious type but being that the child was so close to home when found and killed by blunt force trauma, my first thought was the parent(s) flipped out on Amy, dumped her body only to report her missing.
IF she was picked up on the way home when abducted to leave her there after killing her is not typical on what I've read on true stranger abductions.

What a pretty girl. Rest in peace Amy Dye.

17-Year-Old Arrested In Kentucky Girl's Death

Police said a 17-year-old was taken into custody Sunday after a 9-year-old girl was found dead this weekend in a Todd County, Ky., field.

The juvenile has been charged with murder and resisting arrest after Amy R. Dye, 9, was found dead in a field early Saturday morning.

KSP officers responded to the scene on Dogwood Lane near Lester Chapel Road between Trenton and Guthrie late Friday night, according to Recke.

Recke said he received a call from Todd County Sheriff's deputies at 10:20 p.m. Friday requesting assistance with a missing person's report for the girl.

On Saturday, at about 12:21 a.m., KSP was contacted by Todd County officials, advising that the child had been located and was dead.

At about 3:30 a.m., Todd County deputies drove a man and woman to Trenton City Hall for questioning. Police would not identify them, however they confirmed they questioned family members, which they said is routine for a homicide investigation.

The victim's family told Channel 4 that the child was adopted by her aunt.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Spring Creek Baptist Church, 2760 Trenton Rd., Clarksville,Tenn. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service.

I had a situation over the summer where a 16yr old boy was following my then 11yr old daughter around and harassing her. It really creeped me out that he was so insistent on messing with my daughter. I don't know that he would ever hurt her but I went to the parents and talked to them anyway. They got him to stop and he is now nice to her. But after reading this site I was really frightened he would take her out into the woods out back and hurt her.

Anyway that makes me wonder if it was a neighbor and their paths crossed and he took advantage.. or if it was somebody closer to her??

The murder of 9-year-old Amy Dye came as a shock to her tiny community in Trenton Kentucky last week

Now the news of who was arrested brings new worries.

Two sources familiar with the murder case say Dye's 17 year old cousin Garett Dye is the juvenile authorities arrested Sunday and charged with murder and resisting arrest.

Several Trenton residents tell us that news has them worried for the family.

"It impacts on that family in such a way. Not only is the girl dead and gone but the person they've arrested if he's guilty is in the family," said Bob Glover.

Fox 17 News has learned Garett dye lives in an underground home on the family's rural property in Trenton.

A source close to the case says Amy Dye was sent out to repair holes on the gravel driveway on the property Friday night as punishment for stealing food at school.

She disappeared around 6 PM and was reported missing at 10:20 PM. A teacher found her early Saturday morning murdered less than 100 yards from her home.

"It's really devastating to think that something like that could really happen to a poor little girl that was defenseless. and what was she doing out there by herself in the middle of the night," said Trenton Resident Lou Jean Griffin.

Far better punishment than the ice cold showers and beatings we've been reading about on here.

6 pm is hardly the middle of the night, however I wonder what made her parents wait until after 10 to report her missing.

I just think of all those stories of neglected kids... they all seem to revolve around food stealing. And water drinking. Heaven help children should eat food and drink water from the sink.

I'm sure it's nothing. And yet it's one of my hinky meter phrases, along with "watched by his mother's boyfriend while she was at work", "had recently been returned to his mother from foster care", "met So-and-so online and moved three states to be with him after two months", "began home-schooling" and so many others.

When I was in preschool I use to lie to the teachers and tell them my mom didn't feed me so they would give me extra at snack time (no I wasn't fat either). My mom was horrified when she found out, especially because she always had homemade meals from scratch on the table.

I wouldn't begin to guess your reason(s) for that, but hoarding food is not a bad thing. I used to do it with my MREs in the Army. I always had extras if someone was hungry.

I never actually hoarded the food, I ate it when they gave it to me, I just always asked for seconds. Mind you this was only in preschool and I stopped doing it as soon as my mom found out.

Really depends on the house. Energy is the main thing here! The one we are looking at has the front door exposed. Everything else is under the dirt.

Our old place, by the river, had the tornado shelter built into the bank. Think about that advantage! I'm not one to play with Mother Nature, but we all know that dirt is an advantage!

They punished her for stealing food AT school. I wonder if she'd done it before and the obvious, why she was stealing. ....and wtf did he strike and kill this child? really? is he prone to violence? what the hell was his motivation if there is one to be found.

I find it very sad that they took so long to report her missing. I am curious if she'd run off at hours on time before and they felt, meh, she'll come around soon. I find aspects of this story questionable but then there is much we will never know the answers to. Poor child.
