A Punta Gorda man has been arrested on sexual assault charges after Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office deputies say he forced a woman to watch as he assaulted her 12-year-old daughter three times.

Jerome Nubin, 32, of 6417 Scott St., is facing three charges of sexual battery on a child under 12 years old, three counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping a child and domestic battery.

Deputies responded to a call at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and were told by the victim’s grandfather Nubin had raped the girl, according to a sheriff’s office release.

The grandfather told investigators he went to Nubin’s home, and Nubin came out swinging a baseball bat, threatening him and began throwing bricks and other items at him. He said his car was damaged in the incident.

Investigators made contact with the girl, who said Nubin sexually assaulted her around midnight while she was in her mother’s bedroom. She said her mother was present during the assault.

The girl said she and her mother were held against their will and Nubin threatened them with a baseball bat while he was assaulting the girl.

Nubin was the mother’s boyfriend, according to the release.

Detectives said Nubin slapped and punched the girl and told her to take her clothes off or he would slit her throat. He then sexually assaulted her three times.

The girl was taken to an area hospital.

Nubin has been booked into the Charlotte County Jail 13 times. He remains in custody.

I still might be able to find a way to jam that baseball bat up his ass before I just let some shit like that go down.

I believe that they probably really thought they would die if they resisted him, but as a human being I would have given my life in an effort to prevent such a thing. I bet that he probably had abused them both in some way (physical or psychological) to get the mom to the point that she was unwilling to make an attempt on his life.

I have no doubt the mom was afraid and felt helpless, but if it were me, NOTHING would keep me from trying to protect my daughter. I don't care if the fucktard had a gun. I'd go after his scrotum.

That's exactly the part of the story I had such a hard time with.... a baseball bat?!? Kinda hard to hold a baseball bat the way you need to to be threatening, while you are actively raping someone. I know there may be other factors like repeated physical abuse and psychological abuse causing deep-rooted fear of the scumbag... but a baseball bat? I hope to never, ever be in any type of situation like that, but a motherfucker would have to beat me to DEATH before they could ever touch my children. Until then every part of my body, and everything in that home would have been used as a weapon to hurt and kill that sick fuck.

I'm hoping the mother was tied up or restrained in some way and the article just failed to include that bit of information because most mothers I know would voluntarily stick their own hand in a meat grinder to protect their child from being hurt.

I'm not a mother but I do know that most mothers would wade through hell to fight a circle saw before allowing any harm to come to their child. I had the same thoughts about the bat, and can only guess at what else may have been within her grasp. This makes no sense at all to me!

Officials we spoke to say 32-year-old Jerome Nubin, of 6417 Scott Street, was arrested on nine charges.

Officials with the sheriff's office were called at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday by a man who claimed that Nubin had raped his granddaughter.

The caller told deputies that he went to Nubin's home to confront him, but began threatening the grandfather by swinging a baseball bat and throwing bricks, a lamp and even a child's scooter at him.

When detectives spoke with the girl, she told them that between midnight and 3 a.m. Wednesday, Nubin sexually assaulted her while she was in her mother's bedroom and that her mother was in the room the whole time.

According to reports, the mother and daughter said Nubin would not let them leave and was threatening them with verbal threats as he was holding a baseball bat.

Detectives say Nubin, the mother's boyfriend, slapped and punched her.

He then told the 12-year-old girl to take her clothes off or he would cut her throat. They say the young girl was raped a total of three times.

The article said the girl stated he told her he would cut her throat...If he did have a knife that might change things re: mom. If someone held a knife to my neck I would still fight to protect my baby, but if they held a knife to my BABIES throat I would probably be more compliant...you can survive rape but not a sliced throat (generally).

Bingo! I'm glad someone finally suggested this.

It's very noble to be willing to throw yourself under the bus to save you child. I think we all would. But that's not what we're looking at, here.

Like I said on the FP, all of this big, violent man's aggression is targeted at the daughter, NOT the mother. It was the daughter who had been slapped and punched, the daughter who had been threatened with having her throat slit (knife or no knife), it was the daughter who was being sexually assaulted. Mom had every reason to believe that anything she did not intervene would be taken out on her daughter, not herself.

And, let's be real... This man didn't need a bat OR a knife to be legitimately dangerous. A grown man can strangle the life out of a twelve year old with relative ease, even if a woman is beating on his back with everything she's got. Standing back and letting this occur is, undoubtedly, the hardest thing any parent could do... but intervening likely would have resulted in even greater harm to the child.

Nubin has been booked into the Charlotte County Jail 13 times. Here are a few things he has been booked for:

2005 - Injure/Destroy/Remove Firefighting Apparatus
2006 booked on 2 counts of battery, 1 count of assault and 1 count of carrying a concealed weapon
2006 – trespassing
2007 - trespassing
2010 – loitering/prowling & possession of cannabis
2010 – Resisting arrest and trespassing

I just cannot fathom that this man went from being prince charming to Mr. Hyde in one weekend. The thought that she may have allowed this man to rape her daughter in order to protect her daughter from further harm and/or death at his hands - makes me sick and is certainly not a very good excuse as to why he was living there in the first place.

It also says the grandfather went to Nubins house to confront him but it doesn't say that Nubins house is the same house the girl was assaulted in.

Did I just miss that part?

I haven't read anything suggesting the boyfriend lived with mom and daughter. I think that's a conclusion that was jumped to.

Unfortunately, there is a shortage of young men without rap sheets in the black community. Nothing in this guy's history suggests he's the type of guy to do something like this to a child. What are black women reasonably supposed to do? Stop dating until they come across a man with a clean record? Some may wait their entire lives. The marriage rate is already in disaster mode in the black community.

Hell, my husband has a record, and he's the best father and husband I've ever seen in action. In 11 years, he's never cussed at me, raised his voice... nothing. I don't know another male on earth who can boast a history like that. But, by MA's suggested logic, I should have passed him by because of his record?

I agree that mothers should be careful, but at this point, we've got no reason to believe this woman wasn't. Like Obsolete pointed out, it doesn't sound like they lived together.

This mom is a victim, too. This is the kind of thing that could drive a parent to suicide, I'd think. I think we should hold off before we rush to judgment.

Perhaps he forgot to mention to this woman, the 3 years he spent in prison for felony assault or that he owes his prior victim over $833,888.00 + in restitution for medical expenses – hmmm . . .

This particular man has been in and out of jail on numerous probation & parole violations from New York to Florida. He has been a consistent criminal for the last 10 years – Is your husband a consistent criminal? How much time did he serve in prison and what were his offenses? I do not know the extent of your husband’s criminal history Athena or if you had children prior to meeting him –

However, by my suggested logic, if your husband is a violent felon with on-going criminal problems and you choose to have him around your children in spite of the warning signs, (like this particular asshat has shown) and if your husband hurts/abuses/kills/rapes your children than you are as much to blame for what happens to your child as he is.

I'm curious to know how you know they lived together if it's not listed anywhere. What kind of information do you have available to you? Might you come in handy to me one day?

No, my husband doesn't hold a candle next to this guy, criminally-speaking. And, no, I certainly didn't have children before we met. My point, however, is that a criminal record does not necessarily speak to a person's demeanor. Does he have any domestic violence charges, there? It's easy to say, "Well, she should have known... Look at his record!" But for every felon who terrorizes his family, there are two who are good to them.

I disagree with you on that point. No one is more responsible for a crime than the person who committed it. To say otherwise, in my opinion, dilutes the responsibility of the offender. In fact, I've heard offenders say, "Well, what was she doing bringing me around her kids?" as if he couldn't control himself and it was her fault. While I agree women should exercise responsibility and caution, this woman is NOT as responsible for her daughter's assault as the man who committed it.

Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies said the attack happened Wednesday morning at the mother's home. Jerome Nubin of Punta Gorda is charged with sexual battery on a 12-year-old, aggravated assault, kidnapping and domestic battery. He is being held without bond in the Charlotte County Jail.

Detectives said Nubin threatened the mother and child with a baseball bat. He also slapped and punched the mother before assaulting the child.

The sheriff's office was contacted by the child's grandfather.

The grandfather says Nubin also threatened him with a bat and threw bricks, a child's scooter and a lamp at him.

The attack happened at the mothers home, Nubin was arrested at his own home @ 6417 Scott Street.
