Dead Man Found Naked Inside Garden Shed

Police were working to identify a man who was found naked and dead inside a shed on the city's southwest side.

A neighbor discovered the body on Monday afternoon in the 1500 block of Covina Drive.

Dennis Hoover followed footprints in the snow and found the man in a neighbor's shed, bloody and nude, 10TV's Maureen Kocot reported.

"He was covered (in blood). It looked like he went through a briar patch," Hoover said. "Just scratched all up."

Hoover said the man knocked on his door at about midnight on Sunday, asking to come inside.

"I looked out the door and I couldn't see anybody," Hoover said. "He kept saying 'Sir let me in, sir let me in.' If it was 9 in the morning, maybe, but at midnight, no."

Hoover called 911 but officers could not find the man, Kocot reported.

On Monday police were searching the neighborhood hoping for clues that would indicate what the man was doing in the area and why he was naked.

Investigators said an autopsy will be performed by the Franklin County coroner. They hope to use the man's fingerprints to identify him.

This whole thing sounds wrong! How is it the cops couldn't find that same trail?

I wouldn't have let him in either. Sir Hoover here was smart to call 911 instead of opening the door. I'm curious to see what that crazy cracker was up to.

It's possible he was off wandering somewhere else when the cops were there and came back later to break into the shed. Maybe?

For real. I wouldn't open my door for anyone at that hour (ANY hour, really), let alone some dude covered in blood.

I can't discount what you're saying there Obsolete, but it looks bad that the man who made the call at midnight actually tracked him to the neighbors shed.

You can blame it on the beer, the meds, the lifetime of drunkbumps or anything (within reason) but my TV reception is NIL.

It's too bad... But, you really can't be taking in every nekkid man, that turns up on your doorstep, in the snow.
    Well. You know. After midnight.

Columbus police and the Franklin County coroner have identified a man found naked and dead in a West Side shed as 24-year-old Joshua T. Edwards.

A cousin of Edwards' girlfriend recognized a picture of his tattoo and called police, homicide detective Patricia Dailey said.

Edwards, who lived on the Far West Side with his girlfriend, had been diagnosed with a mental illness, Dailey said.

Coroner Jan Gorniak said he apparently died of hypothermia but a definite cause of death won't be released until toxicology tests are completed in about six weeks.

Police are not investigating Edwards' death as a homicide, Dailey said. "It's a sad situation," she said.

tell him to wait a minute, call 911 and have him wait outside while you calling would be a good way... Id be too afraid he was someone who got robbed and needed help to just ignore it if he was begging for help...

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one...

The homeowner didn't ignore him, he did call 911.
