Bethany man jailed in wife's death says wife caught him watching pornography

BETHANY — A Bethany man jailed on a murder complaint in the Saturday stabbing death of his wife said he attacked the woman because he “snapped” when she caught him watching pornography on his computer, according to an affidavit filed today in Oklahoma County District Court.

Reginald Scott Bartlett, 58, is being held without bail in the Oklahoma County jail in the death of Cathy Bartlett, 57. He has not been charged.

Police were called about 6:35 p.m. to the couple's home at 7600 NW 25 and found Reginald Bartlett rolling around on the living room floor groaning, officer Angelo Orefice wrote in the affidavit. Cathy Bartlett was partially clothed on the floor with stab wounds to much of her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene

Bartlett was taken to a hospital due to his “distraught demeanor” and was interviewed Saturday following his release, according to the affidavit. Bartlett told police he was “a sick individual” and that he was addicted to pornography.

He told officers his wife came into the computer room, saw he was looking at pornography, slapped him and began to yell at him about a bank statement because she thought he was ordering pornography, Orefice wrote. Bartlett said he snapped, grabbed a knife and stabbed her repeatedly.

Bartlett told police he pulled some of her clothes off to make it look like his wife had been raped, then emptied a drawer out on the floor to make it look like the house had been burglarized

Bartlett took the knife used in the attack along with a computer and his clothes and put them in a black bag, which he threw into Lake Overholser

After that, he went to a sporting goods store to look at golf equipment and then to Southern Nazarene University to watch a basketball tournament before returning to the home to call 911.

I've been reading here too long, my mind first says he must have been watching kiddie porn or something like that, who would kill over tthe rest? Then it reminds me that people kill for dumber reasons all the time... I'm torn...

Some people are so prudish about porn and addiction to it, it doesn't even have to be out of the ordinary for them to want to hide it. I just finished a true crime book where the prosecution said a guy murdered his wife over porn addiction. His taste ran to pics of women getting their faces cummed on. Not even kinky - everyday porn.

See I read it that she walked in on him watching porn, slapped him, then was yelling at him about a charge on their bank statement that she believed was a purchase for porn, then he stabbed her repeatedly, tried to make it look like a rape by ripping her clothes, then tried to make it look like an attempted robbery, by turning over a drawer. After he collected his thoughts, gathered the knife, clothes, and computer, and dumped them. Then did a little shopping.

I figured it was the slapping and nagging about buying porn that set him off.

I came home once and found one of my videos in the VCR. I asked my ex about it & he got this bewildered look on his face and tried to play it off like I left it in there. I teased him about it a little bit, which surprisingly enough to make him bust it in half on a wall corner.

I wonder wtf he's think if he saw my newest videos. One is labeled "2 men for every girl" (bi) & the other is "dark meat" totally GAY porn vid. I didn't get them myself, a friend of mine snatched them from his ex-boyfriend. I don't know if he was aiming for shock value or what. But I kept them. Got a few male friends who have a habit of checking my dvd & vcr cause they know porn will likely be there. Gonna slip in one of those special vids for those buttholes and see how they like THAT.

I am thinking, the kiddie porn element is making the most since to me. Personally, i have found porn to be pretty mainstream and accepted by most people/couples in my age range anyway (35). I think porn is awesome, it is the only thing you can put on T.V.in the background, that doesn't need sound so you can listen to music at the same time and if you are surfing at the same time, you don't have to pay attention to the story at all but it is still, always entertaining and interesting, every time that you do pause on the computer and watch T.V.

I would agree with you, but the smaller percentage who doesn't approve of porn seems to HATE the stuff. I've met broads, relatively young ones, who honestly believe that their man should only have eyes for them and that viewing porn equates to cheating in their opinion.

Needless to say, I've never befriended any of these women, but I do know they exist. :P

I watch porn, it beats some of the reality shows that are on nowadays. When you have one partner in a relationship who is against it, one who likes it, the person who likes it would be ashamed if they were caught watching it. To the point of murder? I don't think anything, unless someone else is going to die is to the point of murder, but some may completely break with reality.
