Human remains have been discovered in a pasture 40 miles from Colorado City, Texas, where 13–year-old Hailey Dunn disappeared over one year ago.

Authorities in Big Spring, Texas confirmed that human remains were found near the McMahon Wrinkle Airpark Tuesday afternoon. The airpark is approximately one mile from the home of the mother of Shawn Adkins, Hailey Dunn's mother's boyfriend at the time of her disappearance, and the only named person of interest in the case.

Detective Sgt. Tony Everett said the remains appeared to have been there "for a long period of time," according to the San Angelo Standard Times. Everett said that an FBI evidence recovery team from Dallas is going to process the scene Wednesday morning.

No official connection has yet to be made between the remains found Tuesday and Hailey Dunn.

All eyes were on Big Spring Tuesday as investigators made what could be a big discovery in the case of missing teen Hailey Dunn.

Dunn disappeared from her Colorado City home more than a year ago. So far, every other lead has gone cold.

On Tuesday, workers at the Big Spring airport discovered human remains laying in an open field. The man who found the remains declined to speak on camera but did tell reporters he thought the remains belonged to a child.

A source tells KAMC the remains were found inside a trash bag.

Although no official connection has been made between the remains and Hailey Dunn, the DPS Ranger in charge of investigating Dunn's disappearance was called to the scene at the airport.

Sources tell us the remains are likely Hailey Dunn's.

On Tuesday, KAMC called Hailey Dunn's mom, Billie Dunn, but got her boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, instead.

Adkins is the only named suspect in Dunn's disappearance.

When we told him about Tuesday's discover, Adkins acted surprised and only said he did not have a comment.

Adkins' mom lives just miles away from the Big Spring airport where the remains were found.

Cell phone towers have previously traced Adkins to his mother's house in Big Spring the day Hailey went missing.

No official connection has been made between the remains and Dunn's disappearance but the investigation continues Wednesday morning, with FBI agents from Dallas expected to arrive to help with the identification of the remains.

Dunn Family, Attorneys React to Remains Found in Big Spring

As authorities scoured the area near a Big Spring manufacturing plant where human remains were found Tuesday, the family of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn waited to hear more.

"I'm actually feeling dead. I don't know what to feel," said Connie Jones, Hailey's grandmother.

Jones has been waiting more than 14 months for her granddaughter to come home.

"I'm still...2010 Christmas when she was here. That's all I see, is her being here that day," Jones said.

Attorneys for Hailey's mother, Billie Dunn, and boyfriend Shawn Adkins said the pair returned to Colorado City Wednesday. Adkins is the only named person of interest in the case.

"We've always and will always be open and prepared for any future discussions with law enforcement. And if they choose to make an arrest, then that's their decision," said Alex Eyssen, Adkins' attorney.

"We're trying not to speculate. We're trying to keep a positive outlook on things," added John Young, Dunn's attorney.

Young said his client will be staying with family in Colorado City until the investigation is complete. Until that time, all of Hailey's family will be anxiously waiting for answers.

"I just want her back so bad," Jones said.

Both attorneys confirmed Dunn and Adkins have been living in the Austin area. Young stressed although the two are in a relationship, he said they are not living together.

Young said Billie Dunn was in contact with law enforcement Wednesday.

COLORADO CITY -- A possible break-through in the investigation into the disappearance of Colorado City teenager, Hailey Dunn.

Authorities confirm they are looking into detailed allegations written in a letter from a woman jailed on drug charges. That woman, Sonja Renee Callahan, claims to have seen a girl fitting Hailey's description being held against her will in a West Texas home.

Callahan was being held on drug charges in a lock-up in Odessa and that's where, four months ago, she wrote the letter and sent it to family members in Abilene. Those family members shared the letter with investigators and they tell us some of those leads have proven to be valuable, and some have not.

Callahan's letter reads as a disturbing narrative of events that took place in January of 2011 which lead to the death of the unidentified young girl who, the letter states, would be 15 now.

The letter never says the name of the young girl. However, if the events are accurate, the timeline, location, as well as the girls age, coincide with Hailey's disappearance when she was 13-years-old in December of 2010.

The description of the girl mentioned in the letter also fits that of Hailey.

As another, final hint, that Callahan believes the girl may be Hailey Dunn, the letter goes on to claim it is tied to a case that is big news all around the country.

Callahan's letter states that the girl was kidnapped, kept in a house and died of an accidental overdose of certain drugs given to her by her captors to keep her compliant.

Callahan claims that she tried to help the girl, but was prevented by others involved and that, now that she has written her confession, she feels some semblance of peace and can finally sleep.

A special FBI forensics team is working today to locate skeletal remains found Saturday in Scurry County.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Sparky Dean said the body isn’t intact and that the FBI group, which has expertise in recovering remains in criminal cases, is diligently working to recover the bones of the deceased.

“This is being treated as a crime scene, so it is slow going,” Dean said. The remains were found Saturday afternoon near Lake JB Thomas. The reservoir is off County Road 3236 and Farm to Market 1298.

Dean said the remains weren’t in a grave, but instead have been found in a mesquite, thorn, cactus-riddled area where authorities have only had access via foot.

The body was decomposed to the point where authorities couldn’t determine the gender or age of the deceased, Dean said. Dean said he is unaware of the identity of the individual who called law enforcement about 1:10 p.m. Saturday to inform them of the finding.

Although it is unclear whether the body will be sent to Lubbock or Fort Worth for autopsy, Dean said authorities won’t send the remains until everything is collected. “We’re not going to send things piecemeal to the medical examiner,” Dean said. “We want to do it all at one time.”

Meanwhile, an SUV from the 32nd Judicial District Attorney could be seen at the scene Sunday. The 32nd District represents Nolan, Fisher, and Mitchell counties. Although officials are being tight-lipped, Hailey Dunn – a teen who has been missing since Dec. 27, 2010 – was from Colorado City (Mitchell County).

Snyder - The family of Hailey Dunn are on their way to Snyder this afternoon. Spokespeople for Hope for Hailey tell CBS 7 that the family will be in town by tonight.

They offered a statement saying, "We ask everyone to come together and pray for the family of whoever this body belongs. We are praying that it is not our Hailey. We appreciate the outpouring of kindness and prayers over the past two years."

Investigators from local and state law enforcement are still processing a crime scene where a body was found in Scurry County over the weekend.

I really think the odds are good that this may be Hailey. The FBI and District 32 (Colorado City) were called in immediately on day 1. ...FBI usually only becomes immediately involved with remains discovery of minors I thought. I note that LE is using broad terms when giving details about this skeleton. "Can not determine the age without further tests." Really!!?? How obvious for either the actual age of the deceased or the time period "age" the skeleton has been sitting there. But they sure as heck can differentiate between the skeleton of an adult, child, youth. But they are saying nada. With the FBI there immediately, I'm thinking they immediately ruled out adult. It usually takes a whole lot longer for them to be called in by the local/state authorities for adults (unless evidence at the crime scene indicates known adult kidnap/human trafficing victim etc).

Also, I searched back because Scurry County, where these remains were discovered, rang bells for me --- and I saw it. You may remember the discussion here regarding Shawn Adkins failed polygraph testing where, when asked, he stated that Hailey could be found in Scurry County and the LD indicated that was a truthful response, but when then asked if he knew where in Scurry County she could be found, he said "no" and the LD indicated that was an untruthful response ...

I take that as Shawn knows exactly where she has been all this time. In Scurry County.

Adkins took three polygraph exams. The first two times, he walked out of the room before the test was completed. The third time, he was found to be deceptive during the first part of the exam. During the second stage of the exam, Adkins revealed that Hailey might be in Scurry County, Texas. Investigators deemed him to be telling the truth. When pressed about a more precise location for the girl, Adkins refused to complete the test, according to the affidavit. Kampfer said that investigators have searched Scurry County.

Just to clear up some misconceptions, The body that was found last Year in Big Spring, was a mile from Shawns mothers house.
This particular set of bones is about 40 miles east on and around Lake JB Thomas in Snyder.....

They should have been able to tell right off if the remains are male or female by the shape of the pelvis. Males have a sort of heart shaped pelvis and the ischial (sp?) spine goes outward; females have an oval shaped pelvis and the spine thing projects inward. I hope we get an update soon.

John Young, the lawyer for the family of Hailey Dunn, confirms to the Odessa American that the bones found in Scurry County last month are those of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn.

The remains were found last month. Dunn was reported missing on Dec. 28, 2010, from the family's home in Colorado City. A press conference was called this afternoon in Scurry County.

The mother of a 13-year-old West Texas cheerleader found dead in March said Tuesday that since her daughter went missing more than two years ago she had feared the worst, including that the girl was chained and tortured or had fallen victim to human traffickers.

Investigators have given no indication that Billie Jean Dunn's fears about her daughter are valid or under what circumstances Hailey Darlene Dunn might have been held captive, if she was. Officials have not released a manner and cause of death, and an FBI spokeswoman did not return a call Tuesday.

In the first public comments since Hailey's remains were identified, Billie Jean Dunn said possibly the most painful part was picturing her daughter wondering why her mother and father hadn't found her.

"I kept my hope the whole time. I did," the 36-year-old mother said. "That fear that she was dead, I put it way in the back of my mind."

Dunn said it's "absurd" for people to question her having anything to do with her daughter's disappearance or death.

"That question has always disgusted me," she said. "It still does. This is my daughter. Hailey is my baby. She is my child."

Hailey's brother, 18-year-old David Dunn, is "very angry and very sad," his mom said. He sobbed throughout a memorial service held Sunday at Hailey's middle school where hundreds came to bid farewell to the girl.

"He couldn't stand the sight of a `missing' poster (about Hailey), of course, because it made it too real for him," Billie Jean Dunn said. "Now it's real and now he accepts it."
