Colorado City is in Texas, (I know, right?) so I can't figure out why guns and knives are such a big fuckin' deal. My cousin who lives in Waco quite literally has a full gun rack on his truck. Course, he listens to country music and can't work a youtube account, so that might sway public opinion. What I see in those youtube vids is posturing and nothing more. I sure as hell don't see devil worship or a conspiracy to kill a child.

I'm concerned that the media attention to Shawn's lifestyle is going to make it impossible for him to get a fair trial anywhere. Which sucks, when there is a preponderance of legitimate evidence that makes him a viable suspect should Hailey be found dead. Kinda like in the Rowan Ford case in my area, which has yet to come to trial because the defense gets to wait until Missouri forgets how two asshole perverts raped and murdered a nine year old child while her mama was workin' at the local Wal-Mart.

The last couple days I've been sicker than hell but some how managed to be able stay in bed almost two days with little bother. So with nothing better to do but moan about I watched 'the first 48' for geez, just about everytime my eyes were open.

anyway there was a case where this guy who never missed work and was totally reliable just called in that 'he was never to return'. well as it turned out he killed his adult nephew and his wife and was busy wrapping them and stashing 'em in the attic.

I recall thinking 'wow never heard that one before' and finally get to hang on DD for a bit and BAM there it is...

The affidavit says that Adkins quit his job in Snyder that morning

I was very disturbed by N.G. last night, I know this has nothing to do with the case but N.G. is such a classless, tasteless, talentless, douche bag, WHY does CNN keep her, she can't have any fans because I have yet to meet one and the only reason anyone watches her show is because she always gets exclusives on the hottest stories.
Anyway, I found that, while Mom looked to be genuine she also looked high as a freaking kite, I don't think she is involved but I think she is guilty for bringing that low life piece of trash into her home and daughters life and the part about her not going in the room? I find that weird, I used to love kissing my sleeping babies before I would leave, or if I was on nights, when I came home from work but I always woke them enough so they knew, I didn't forget them. I don't know how you can just skip past and not take one extra minute out of your day to do that.

KTXS was told cadaver dogs got two "hits" at the landfill, prompting the investigation. This, as city officials release that Shawn Adkins has been upgraded to a suspect.

Friday, KTXS asked Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer, who has been a liaison between police and media why if all documents and investigations seem to point to Adkins, have no arrests been made, "At this point I don't know and I haven't talked to persecutor and or command post about their needs and desires on an effecting arrest, in a lot of these cases you need a body or something, evidence to say there's foul play, you know that Hailey is deceased."

I don't know what to say about that... on one hand, I'm known for getting up out of nowhere in the middle of the night and checking that my kids are still breathing, on the other though, if they don't have school and I still have to get up early and rush out the door for work, I'll just dash out. They are in good hands with their dad, and I'm late for work. That is how I can skip past and skip that extra minute. The mom did say she looked in on her and it looked as though she was in bed. I can't fault her for not physically going in there to kiss her 13 year old goodbye. I wouldn't be waking mine up that early on a vacation day.

Billie Dunn met Shawn Adkins online and chose to move him into the home with her children. Shawn threatened JUST LAST YEAR to kill Billie & Hailey, but was allowed to remain in the home. Hailey was afraid of Shawn, telling her grandmother that he watched her at night and that she was afraid he was going to go into her room. Translation... Hailey was afraid Shawn was going to rape her.

We all know that sickening feeling in the gut when someone is making unwelcome, inappropriate sexual advances towards you. While we may be able to join a group of friends to provide security or leave the club for the safety of home, Hailey had no such luxuries. Hailey told her grandmother about her concerns, but her pleas for help went unanswered. Hailey had nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no safe haven from her tormentor because her MOTHER WAS FORCING HER TO LIVE WITH THE SOB WHO WAS TARGETING HER!

Shawn chose Billie to get to Hailey. Billie chose drugs and a penis over her own flesh & blood. Hailey chose to seek help from her only available savior, who failed her miserably. Shawn chose his perverse fantasies over Hailey's LIFE. And now Billie is choosing fantasy land over hard, cold reality.

Billie Dunn is not JUST stupid... She's guilty as sin.

Clearly I don't have enough to do, but that's another story. I've been flitting around teh interwebz, and several theories have caught my eye re: Hailey and what could have happened to her.

I have read that:

- Hailey was possibly pregnant with Shawn Adkins' child. Pure speculation, backed by both Shawn and Billie talking about birth control to the police in reference to Hailey. Actually, as nauseated as I am, I could halfway buy this. Both Shawn and Billie admit to telling police that they had talked with Hailey about birth control. I can see why the police might ask, but Shawn and Billie have not clarified whether they were answering a direct question or just happened to mention it. Either way, it shows that pregnancy was something they were both thinking about. Why?

- Hailey's friend Marybeth has a sex offender living in a camper in her back yard. I have seen the SO record but I have no idea whether the guy has been cleared or his trailer searched. Or why he's living in the backyard of a house with a young girl in it, or if he is. Also, no evidence to indicate that Hailey saw him on the 26th or 27th.

- Hailey is in a cellar pictured on the Myspace pics and youtube vids. No info on whether that is believed to be true or whether the premises has been searched.

- Billie killed Hailey herself and Shawn went home to clean up the mess. Possible, but not overly plausible. I think if they did it together, they'd be hanging in the same house.

- Hailey is alive and being held by the guys in the youtube vids. Um, really?

- Hailey is alive and in Odessa with a boy. - Clint Dunn has been following this lead, but so far nothing's panned out. I would love this one to be true.


In other things that make you go hurl, Billie Dunn is saying that she still loves Shawn and while she is uncertain of their future together, she might take him back. But if he's hurt Hailey, well then, she'll "be disgusted by that and would never speak to him again and hope he'd get what he deserves.". Oh, okay. Is Billie five, now?

And they didn't find Hailey in the landfill.

Why would this 25 year old BF be talking to a 13 year old about BC? I just had to have that talk with my own 14 year old and I have to tell you if my BF had said shit to her about anything to do with sex or BC I would be skeeved the fuck out!

He raped and killed her, probably the morning they found her "missing" if not the night before as Billie slept. I would also bet money that Shawn had been "getting up on" Hailey for quite awhile and this last thing was the penetration and she told Shawn she would tell her Dad if Billie didn't care and he killed her. I think that Billie knew in her heart, if not straight out knew, that Shawn wanted to do her daughter and she chose to look the other way to keep him. I also think she knows what he did, that he probably told her it was an "accident" or that he panicked when she said she would tell on him and he did something, such as strangle or smother Hailey.

The only reason Billie told him to get out is because she knew it would look weird if she kept him around.

If memory serves, Shawn says he told police that Billie had talked with Hailey about birth control, not that he had personally done so - on rereading I see how my post made it look like he says he talked to Hailey about it personally. And Billie told Nancy Grace that she had talked to Hailey about birth control.

But the affidavits say that while Shawn started out speaking well of Hailey, as the interview progressed he began to paint Hailey as a promiscuous girl, telling police that Hailey was sexually active. And that just creeps me the fuck out. Why would mom's 25 year old boyfriend need to know the first thing about her 13-year-old daughter's sexuality? It's none of his damn business - that's between the mother and her child. Why would he need to know if Hailey was on birth control (no evidence that she was or wasn't) or whether that had even been discussed?

I put my girl on the pill early, so I asked Talking Jesus for his take on this. He says that yeah, we did talk about it at the time, but that it was never really his business, his baby girl never needed such things, and frankly, ew, and also, whyyyyy was I asking such icky questions? Wasn't it just to keep her from getting zits? Ew ew ew, lalalalalaican'thearyouuuuu, and back to the game with himself. He looked at me like I was a total perv for even mentioning it, and our daughter is now 21 and living out of state. That seems a much more normal "dad" response to me.

Billie seems off to me, like she just had to know. Maybe that is why she needed drugs? Cause if it was just that she needed one Valium because her daughter was missing a Dr. would have given her one. She needed harder drugs.

Also, did Hailey ever mention Shawn creeped her out to her mom, or just her Grandma? That seems to be something that would get back to a mom, so why not kick him out then? Why ever leave them alone together?

What I saw on NG, Billie was on camera and the g.mother was on the phone and when the gmother spoke of the things that she said Hailey said, Billie's response was something like "why didn't anyone tell me this"?

Even if my 14 year old daughter didn't flat out tell me she was creeped out by my BF I would be able to tell from the way that they interacted and how she reacted to him. Why didn't she notice? Why didn't she ask?

Holding fast to the hope that he'll find his "beautiful girl" alive, somewhere, Clint Dunn spent the past week chasing leads from Snyder to Odessa and doing everything he can think of to find his missing daughter, Hailey Dunn.

Like the words printed on a shirt he often wears, the father of missing 13-year-old Colorado Middle School student is "on a mission."

"I'm exhausted," Dunn said late in the week, after searching for his daughter in the Midland-Odessa area for two days. "It's frustrating, staying over there for two days and you're driving home and you don't have her. I'm gonna go right back, and I'm not going to give up."

Hailey Dunn was reported missing by her mother — Clint Dunn's estranged wife — Dec. 28. Her former live-in boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, has been named by a law enforcement task force investigating the case as the prime suspect. No arrests have been made.

Having read the affidavits pertaining to his daughter's case six times, Clint Dunn said he can't rule out the possibility that something horrible has happened. However, he is trying to stay focused on the chance that she ran away from home.

"There are so many things in that can eat me up if I just think about it and look at it too long, and I've lost enough sleep over it," he said. "Of course it eats away at my mind but, you know, I'm just hoping something else comes about."

Friends and strangers have reached out to Dunn to donate flyers and funds to help find Hailey Dunn. Some have volunteered to travel to Mexico to hand out flyers.

"I'm not rough enough to go down there," Dunn said. "So I got some people that will go down there for me and pass out flyers."

Brad Floyd, a friend of Dunn's who has been helping any way he can, has seen the effect that Hailey's disappearance has had on Dunn.

"He used to be really happy inside, and you know that's gone," Floyd said. "I always knew he was a good man, but I never knew the quality of that man until I seen how he's gone through this. Anything he hears, he's trying to find his daughter and bring his daughter home. I'm really amazed at that."

With his girlfriend, Naomi Stewart, driving their deteriorating Mercury Cougar and their 3-month-old daughter Chloe in tow, Dunn is determined to continue his search for as long as it takes.

"I can never ask for enough help until my daughter is found," Dunn said. "It's changed my life, and my life will never be the same. And when this happens to anybody else, I will help them, and I will never look at another missing picture the same."

Kampfer says he's holding out hope that Hailey is still alive and said, "We don't want anyone to give up. I'm more optimistic than a lot of folks. There's not a give up on this type of thing."
One of Hailey's neighbors is not so hopeful. Mary Upshaw, who lives kitty-corner to where Hailey lives with her mother and older brother, David, said she often spoke to Hailey when she walked past her house on her way to school.
The Associated Press reported that Upshaw consciously used the past tense, saying Hailey "was a sweet, little" girl.
"That's the way I feel about it," Upshaw, 64, said. "That she's not with us anymore. I hope I am (wrong), but I don't think so."

Good question! I did a quick search. All the places I found that offer services of cadaver dogs specifically say "human bodies" but don't mention animals. About.com says this (so I don't know if it's accurate):

Search and Rescue Dog is trained to find living humans, and not detect decomposing flesh.

Cadaver Dogs are trained to locate and follow the scent of decomposing human flesh.

Once you have smelled it you can never forget it; I know because that's how my sisters and I found the bio unit. As soon as we got out of the car, we smelled it and even though we'd never smelled it before, we knew what it had to be and what we'd find. It's sickly sweet and sour at the same time, a hot rancid odor.

I call BS on the about.com article. I've seen the occasional article on trainers "losing" the real drugs that they checked out to train those dogs with. The decomp smell is akin to the smell of marijuana. Once you smell it, you won't forget it.
