Homeless Man Collects Food for Animals

    http://www.pbcgov.com/newsroom/1210/...tis_season.htm

    Tis the Season

Richard, aka "Florida," with his best buds Brutus and LilaRichard, aka "Florida," with his best buds Brutus and LilaAs he pushed a cart containing all his belongings, no one could have guessed what was about to take place when they saw a homeless man arrive at the front door of the Animal Care and Control shelter with two dogs in tow. Staff watched as Richard, aka “Florida,” delivered more than 1,000 pounds of dog food. He arrived with his dogs Brutus and Lila, who all walked from 6th Avenue South and Congress Avenue to the shelter located at 7100 Belvedere Road, west of the Florida Turnpike. Richard made the 10-mile trek to donate food for the homeless dogs in the shelter.

This well-known man, who has no home, was given dog food by generous dog lovers and walked all the way to Animal Care and Control to make a donation for the shelter dogs. He said he welcomed the opportunity to help homeless animals in need. After all, ’tis the season for giving.

After making his donation and wishing everyone “happy holidays” with a big smile, Richard began the barefoot journey back to Lake Worth.

We can all learn a lesson from this compassionate man, for angels indeed walk among us. We just have to look with kinder eyes to see them
I like this article and wanted to share. Animals are special. It was a very long and very cold walk pushing that cart from where he was to where the shelter is located. I hope people open their hearts and adopt a dog that might not ever have another home except at the Rainbow Bridge where they will sit waiting for a "Rescuer" to help them across. Those of you who know that poem and the Rescuer one.. kudos. When I cross there will be many that I will help cross that Bridge.

I so love animals I should have a sign... the more I deal with people the better I love animals.

PS I hope this man does have shoes and socks and uses them it's too cold to be barefoot in the weather we are having!

You and this man are not alone in your love of animals. We have had many different types through the years, but are now set with 5 Chihauhaus. Two of these are dogs that I'm sure would have been taken to the country and left to fend for themselves.

People like him should be recognized in a big way, he is homeless, walked barefoot for 10 miles to help animals in a shelter. This is one of the most selfless acts I have seen for a long time. I would donate some money to this great guy to help him out while he is dealing with what has to be one of the hardest situations in life, homelessness.
I love my mom because she loves me and she is a great mom she loves me so much she bought me a psp that stands for playstation portable.

Got his own dogs on a leash and everything. Wonder why no one with a truck helped him?

Very good point 62! I see 3 SUV/van types in the back of that pic, that really don't seem to belong there. Another thing I noted was that this man, although he looks starved and all, has some serious muscle.

We have experienced exceptionally COLD weather here in Florida. Just walking barefoot and shirtless even during the day would not be able to be tolerated by most FLoridians. With this mans' love of animals, I bet the shelters for warmth that are available to him wouldn't allow his dogs into the shelter and I bet you he doesn't go into the shelter because of that. I hope some kind person helps him get on his feet and helps provide shelter for him AND his dogs.

Remember that poem or story that was around where the man walking comes across the place with the Heaven sign on it and stops for a drink of water and the man says you can't have animals in here and he says then I'm NOT going in and later finds out it wasn't Heaven but it was Hell and it was a test of the man's moral character..... I KNOW I would pass because there is no "Heaven" without our animal friends.

Peace, Joy.... and I hope this man and his animals find warm shelter....

Something I've noticed of late along the same line as your post. At this point in time, heroes and champions of causes, are in great need, yet far too short in supply! I'm betting Karma will pay him back in spades!!!!!!!

I just thought about something which makes this guy even more amazing. He dropped off 1,000 lbs of food, that means he had to have hiked those 10 miles barefoot more than once because I can't see how he could have carried or even pushed that many lbs of dog food all in one trip.
