NZ has some horrifyingly unforgettable child abuse cases (Nia Glassie, Hinewaoriki (Lilly-bing) Karatiana-Matiana, Ngatikaura Ngata, Chris and Cru Kahui, Delcelia Witika and so many More).

James Whakaruru is one these cases -
After months of violent beatings, seven visits to hospital in a year and 40 examinations by health professionals, four-year-old James Whakaruru was punched and kicked to death by his mother's boyfriend, Benny Haerewa, who was out of jail after earlier attacks on little James. Another child watched and actually handed Haerewa a jug cord, steel vacuum cleaner pipe and a hammer as the 45-minute beating and stomping went on.

So it is with stunned disbelief I'm making this thread to say this killer is free but it's true.
No Justice. :-(

Boy's killer out of prison today

A man who repeatedly beat a four-year-old boy until he died will be released from jail today, despite fears he'll reoffend.

Thirty-two-year-old Ben Haerewa was sentenced to 12 years in 1999 after being found guilty of the manslaughter of James Whakaruru.

The Parole Board ruled he must - by law - be set free today, having served nearly his full sentence.

Garth McVicar from the Sensible Sentencing Trust says people like Haerewa kept behind bars.

The board has attached 11 conditions to Haerewa's release, including that he undertake drug, alcohol and psychological assessments and keep away from gangs.
