A Dix Hills woman was arrested after she left her two young children in a car while she went into a Stop & Shop on Jericho Turnpike yesterday, police said.

Officer Tom Minnion and Sgt. Kevin McKeon of Suffolk's Second Precinct found a 2-year-old girl and 14-month-old boy in a 2004 Chrysler after a shopper at the Dix Hills store called police about 12:45 p.m. They broke into the vehicle to get the children.

The children did not require medical attention, but police said the girl was sweating heavily. Child Protective Services was notified, and the children were released to their father's custody, police said.

Jennifer C. Sanders, 33, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and is expected to be arraigned today. A message left at her home was not immediately returned.
