Police Investigating Suspicious Death Of 2yo In New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Mich- Police are calling the death of a two-year-old girl in New Haven suspicious. Paramedics were called to a mobile home near the intersection of 27 Mile and Gratiot on Saturday afternoon.

When EMS arrived on the scene the little girl was already dead.

New Haven police say the child did not drown, wasn’t burned and didn’t show any signs of being hurt by a weapon. And because of the bizarre circumstances police are waiting for more information before they release a cause of death.
    [...]
Sources say the girl's biological mother was not with her at the time of her death. The girl was in the care of her father.

Police focus on child abuse in New Haven girl’s death

Dad says 2-year-old fell from stepmother’s arms
New Haven police on Sunday were investigating whether the “suspicious” death of a 2-year-old girl was an accident or the result of child abuse.
As relatives of Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger awaited word from police, they also began preparing funeral arrangements for the precocious little girl whose smile warmed their hearts.
“She was a very sweet child who loved her mom — she was everything in this world to her mom,” said Lynette Furneaux, the girl’s grandmother who resides in Lapeer.
According to police, officers were called Saturday afternoon to a home on Apple Blossom Court in the Meadowcreek

Mobile Home Community near 27 Mile and Gratiot in New Haven for an unresponsive child. The girl was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead.

“The cause of death has not yet been determined and right now it remains as suspicious and under investigation,” Police Chief Michael Henry said in a news release.
New Haven police Sunday afternoon indicated there would be an update on the case later in the day, but none was provided as officers continued their investigation. An officer Sunday evening said additional information would be provided today.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday but Macomb County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz said he could not comment on the manner or cause of death because it’s an ongoing investigation.
The child lived with her mother, 24-year-old Lauren Fureneaux, at Lauren’s parent’s house in Lapeer. The mother shared custody with the child’s father, Jeff Wolfenbarger, who resides in New Haven.
Relatives who did not want to be named said Lily seemed to be afraid of Renee King, Jeff’s wife, who has three children of her own. Lily sometimes came home with bruises, a family member said.

Jeff Wolfenbarger could not be reached for comment Sunday, but he told WDIV-TV (Channel 4) that he didn’t want to believe his wife could have harmed the girl. He said his wife’s version of the incident was Lily fell out of King’s arms after being bathed.
“She did what she could, she told me,” Wolfenbarger told the TV station, adding his wife splashed water on Lily’s face in an attempt to revive her.

The status of the union between Renee King and Jeff Wolfenbarger was not clear Sunday.

Macomb County Circuit Court online records show Wolfenbarger filed for a divorce or annulment on Oct. 7, but the two appear to still be living together and he referred to her as his wife.
    [...]
“Lily was intelligent beyond her years,” said Elizabeth Makedonsky of Imlay City, a friend of Lauren’s, and whose children sometimes played with Lily. “She was an amazing child with a vocabulary that was quite extensive for a 2-year-old.”

The family plans to have the funeral at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors in Lapeer. Anyone who would like to help the family pay for expenses may make a donation to a memorial fund that will be opened at the Lapeer County Bank & Trust.

New Haven Woman Charged With Murder of Stepdaughter, 2
    NEW BALTIMORE, Mich. -
    [...]
Renee Marie King was in tears as she begged the judge to let her go home. Her stepdaughter's funeral is Wednesday, but given the serious nature of the crimes she remains behind bars.
"I just want to be able to get out. I swear on my life I didn't do this. I never would," said the emotional defendant.
The 28-year-old mother of three is charged with killing her stepdaughter, two-and-a-half-year-old Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger at her New Haven home on Saturday.
"I just want a chance to get out. I will stay on a tether. I will report every day. I will do whatever it takes. I just want to be able to see my kids and my husband and be there with them through this hard time tomorrow," King said to the judge.
She told investigators she accidentally dropped the child while bathing her. However, prosecutors say she not only abused and killed the child, who died of blunt force trauma to the head, they allege she also sexually assaulted her with an unknown object.
Prosecutor Eric Smith asked for no bond. King briefly locked eyes with her accuser.
"Two of those three charges are life felony," Smith said. "One is a mandatory life felony. This defendant does not deserve to be on the streets."
    [...]
"A beautiful child by all accounts, and now we're ... at the arraignment of her stepmother for murder. To be perfectly frank, I'm sick of talking about little kids dying," he said.

Sick is what this pos baby killer is. Sick in her head, heart and soul. And you know she was likely jealous of baby girl and daddy's relationship too. Curious tho...
NEW HAVEN, Mich. (WXYZ) - 28-year-old Renee Marie King has been charged with murder, child abuse and criminal sexual conduct for the death of her 2-year-old stepdaughter Lily Furneau-Wolfenbarger.

During King's arraignment Tuesday, she blurted out "I swear on my life I didn't do it." She also said she wouldn't be able to go to Lily's burial unless she got out on bail.

Macomb county prosecutor Eric Smith told the judge King didn't deserve to go to the funeral. Smith said King killed Lily with blunt force trauma after severely injuring her genitals.
Now, not defending the bitch, but I have to wonder, what the evidence is against her as I would think it links her strongly. Cannot help but think dad had a part in this...nothing really but a feeling, but then don't they almost always say they're innocent? She'd come home with bruises that could mean anyone with her prior had a hand at that. She was scared of her, relatives saw this and bruises, my questions to them is what did they do about it if anything as now it's too late.

What happened to baby Lily is disgusting and disturbing. I hope no stone is left unturned that the truth as ugly as it is is known, and ALL people guilty, who failed baby girl are charged.

    Lily was absolutely precious.

I guess the Step-mother just couldn't stand the fact this little girl loved her BIO-MOM so much more than she could ever love her. I think it is "fishy" that the father got an annulment right after they got married - but then continued to live with her, I wonder if they were arguing over this little angel. Maybe darling Lily said "I want my Mommy" and that ENRAGED STEP-BITCH. But then this could just be the common story, one we have all read over and over - THE STEP-PARENT/BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND GETS RID OF THE CHILD THAT IS NOT BIOLOGICALLY THEIRS (JUST LIKE A NEW LION TAKING OVER A PRIDE KILLING ALL THE CUBS SO HE CAN REPLACE THEM WITH HIS OWN) I know ya'll are tired of that analogy, but it just fits every time!

God bless my little redheaded baby - you will never be afraid again my darling.

New Haven Police Chief Michael Henry said the child's biological mother dropped her off at her father's mobile home, where King also lives, in the Meadow Creek Mobile Home Community around 9 a.m. Saturday.

King's own three children were not home, and her husband was at work. Henry said King called 911 just before 2 p.m. reporting she had an "unconscious child."

Smith said it appears that Lily was sexually assaulted prior to her "horrific death." Henry said several items were taken from the home and sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab. Authorities declined to specify what weapons may have been used to sexually assault and kill Lily.

If convicted of felony murder King will serve a mandatory life sentence in prison without parole. The criminal sexual conduct charge has a maximum penalty of life and a minimum of 25 years in prison. The child abuse count is a 15-year felony.

King requested court-appointed counsel and told Plawecki she's been in trouble a couple times before when she was "very young," but doesn't believe she has a criminal record.

Macomb County Circuit Court records show King's husband, Jeffrey Wolfenbarger, filed for divorce in October. The same month, King asked the circuit court to grant a personal protection order against Wolfenbarger. The request was denied and the case was dismissed, records show.

I'm sure more will come out at King's preliminary examination scheduled for December 6.

Keep crying you useless, evil whore, and get to used to it, cause you'll be doing plenty in prison - and hopefully the guards will have selective hearing. Worthless pile of shit! Baby was probably afraid of her cause she was molesting and/or sexually assaulting her the whole time! Fucking bitch!!!!!

If people said she seemed afraid of the sea cow, why oh WHY didn't someone do something? Did anyone even ask the baby, does the heartless hag hurt you? Could they have not done some serious spy shit on their own? Like put a camera somewhere in the room? Like the little button cameras you can get for 85 fucking dollars that are the size of a dime?

God, this is horrible. Raped with an object, and dying horrifically - several objects taken probably cause they were spattered with blood!

    FUCKING BITCH!

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Updated: Step mother charged in death of New Haven girl
    [...]
“I swear to God on my life I didn’t do this,” a sobbing King said. “I just want to be able to see my husband and my kids and be with them through this hard time (today) for my stepdaughter’s burial. I’m accused of doing something I never would have done.”
    [...]
King faces charges of felony murder, which is punishable by life in prison upon conviction; first-degree child abuse, a 15-year felony; and first-degree criminal sexual conduct penetration with injuries involving a child below the age of 13, a life felony that carries a minimum of 25 years in prison.
    [...]
Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith, who attended the arraignment hearing along with Assistant Prosecutor William Cataldo, the chief of the homicide division, declined to detail some of the allegations out of respect for the family because Lily’s funeral is being held today in Lapeer.
An autopsy conducted by Macomb County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz determined the girl died of multiple severe blunt force traumas to the head, and also had suffered vaginal tearing from being raped with an object prior to her death, authorities said.
Outside of court, Smith explained why he objected to the suspect being allowed to attend the funeral even under police guard or on a tether
She is charged with murdering this child,” Smith said. “The last thing we’re going to do is let someone accused of murdering anyone, let alone a 2-year-old, go to that funeral. It’s not going to happen.”

Lily had expressed fear of this woman, had come back with bruises. SO why the fuck did the bio mother leave Lily there alone with this whore?
New Haven Police Chief Michael Henry said the child's biological mother dropped her off at her father's mobile home, where King also lives, in the Meadow Creek Mobile Home Community around 9 a.m. Saturday.

King's own three children were not home, and her husband was at work.....Lily resisted making the 30-minute drive from Lapeer to her father’s home in New Haven. She often returned with bruises on her body, but Wolfenbarger said any marks were the result of typical kids playing.
C'mon, I don't understand. Trips over there Lily showed anxiety. WHY are people so blind to children's feelings? Her baby was scared of her, no fucking way she didn't know Lily would be alone with her as she'd have to bring Lily into the home dropping her off. I can't imagine Lily went easy either, littlest one in the hands of a monster.
Makes me so angry so sad as this didn't have to happen.
I blame them all for failing Lily and curse the one who stole her life.

I don't understand how people don't take into account how a child reacts to an adult. If half of the adults paid close mind to how a child reacts when a certain person approaches many of these cases wouldn't get to the point where we are reading about them, and crying over them as well.

When I was a small child, there was a particular person I would fear, I even would urinate on myself, and still no one found this odd. Instead I was disciplined for messing my underpants or for crying or what ever my reaction. What I am trying to say is that some kids can not verbally express their feelings, but if you look at their reactions, you will easily figure out there is something up. When my 18 year old was about 2, I had him babysat by a friend. Well one day as I am dropping him off, he saw my friends husband and that child practically crawled up on my shoulders. That was a huge red flag that my child was going through some shit. I took my child home, and quit my job.

To me, my children are more important than myself. The day the 1st one was born, my life was not my own anymore and I knew full well that every move I made, every decision I took, would affect him.

So I don't get how this man couldn't see the distress in his child. The Bio mom, well she could have very well had her hands tied by a court order.

@whisperswing-Yes, that's it and the fact she's a selfish, useless whore!

@Nell-True, but NO way I'd leave her alone with the person not ordered on the visit.
Her daddy wasn't there and baby girl was scared, I'd stay there with an evil on the bitch!

I am court ordered to give my kids to their dad every other weekend, every other holiday, Father's day and 2 weeks over the summer. My oldest daughter is such a momma's girl she hates to go over there.

There was a time where he was upsetting her every time she went out there. It got to the point where I left it up to her to decide to go or not. I just told him if he was going to upset her, I wasn't sending her. He was making it worse by running his mouth about me and making her dislike him more.. He makes her feel bad for not coming and accuses her of not loving him.

It sucks when you have to send your kid somewhere you know they don't want to go but you have to have some kind of proof of abuse before you can break the visitation order. As a mother who is forced to give my kids to a guy who I no longer really know..To me he is somebody who I cared about over a decade ago. I have no clue about who he really is all these years later. Yet I have to hope and trust that he loves our kids enough to keep them safe. He has been married twice and I had to trust his wives would not hurt my children.

I feel bad for this mother, I am sure she felt the father would protect his daughter. Bruises don't always mean abuse. I know that unless my kids tells me her dad or step mom hurt her I have to keep hoping the father will keep them safe. The dad and the step mom are the ones I am mad at.. Suck fucks need to be punished fully!

Well, I sure feel for you, and I say that with all sincerity. A child upset over going to visit daddy would make me nervous especially if it happened often. And I do agree that bruises do not always mean abuse. My 7 yo has so many bruises on his legs I thought his pediatrician would certainly ask about them today at his well child visit, guess she knows the signs of questionable bruises.

In this cases Lily had bruises on her body, not sure how many and where on her body and how often this happened but as we see the ending was horrific. I just wish that at least ONE adult responsible for Lily would have been more vigilant, taken her little more seriously. It's always hindsight in cases like this. I guess question, question, question is the best thing to do and in some cases that isn't even enough. It's the what if's that drive me crazy. So sorry little Lily.

I think the bitch should take that blanket, or whatever it is, that she has around her shoulders in her mug and hang herself with it.

I really hate to read about this stuff near the holidays. That kid should be eating leftovers and decorating a Christmas tree, but instead she is in the cold ground. Alone.

Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."
