A Northeast High School soccer coach is being investigated on allegations he abused and sexually assaulted at least five teenage boys, according to the Lancaster County Sheriffs Office.
Sanford Kaplan, a high school soccer coach who works part-time for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has been interviewed by investigators but not arrested, according a statement released by the Sheriffs Office.
Officials are investigating 57-year-old Kaplan for child abuse, false imprisonment and sexual assaults occurring since 2000 at Kaplan’s home, 14647 Country Lane.
Two teenage boys, ages 13 and 15, reported they were bound, blindfolded, gagged and suspended from the rafters of a detached garage.
The boys were allegedly told they were playing a game and were asked to escape the bindings, according to the Sheriffs office.
A search warrant was served at Kaplan's home on Tuesday, May 6, and has led to the seizure of the bindings, a home computer and a camera.
Kaplan is currently in protective custody.
Kaplan is an employee at UNL, a youth soccer coach for various organizations, including the Capitol Soccer Association and a local High School, and has been a host family for foreign exchange students through ERDT/SHARE! High School Exchange Program.
At this time investigators have identified at least five young men who have been victimized by Kaplan, according to the Sheriffs Office.
There may be other boys, some of whom would be as old as 23 today, that may have been victimized by Kaplan, according to officials.
Officials said not all boys who went to Kaplan’s house were subjected to the binding "game." However, they believe there are a number of victims whom we have not identified.
