Melissa D. Cooper Posed As A Nurse In Jail To Get Drugs & Cash

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - An Evansville woman is arrested after posing as the jail nurse.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Deputies say 28-year-old Melissa D. Cooper misrepresented herself in a scheme to get prescription medications and cash.

Authorities say a man whose wife was in jail was contacted by a woman identifying herself as Jennifer Milner.

Deputies say the suspect told the man that she reviewed his wife's medical records and said she needed pain medication and he should drop it off at the jail.

After two exchanges of meds and cash, and then a visit to his wife, who said she never got any medicine, he realized he had been scammed.

Deputies say they had no employee named Jennifer Milner. They did say Melissa D. Cooper was in a cell with the victim's wife last week and asked her personal health questions.

Cooper is charged with two counts of theft.

How did she manage that? So, someone can waltz into jail with prescription meds and cash and just give them to a complete stranger? That place needs to be tightened up.
