A 62-year-old man attacked a 63-year-old man with a machete early Wednesday in south Fulton County, police said.
The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. at the suspect's home in the 500 block of Koweeta Trail, police said.

Fulton County officers were responding to a fight call when they were notified that the victim, David Shackleford of Lithia Springs, had tried to drive himself to the hospital. Shackleford ended up flagging down an Atlanta police officer, and he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with "severe lacerations to his face, neck and ear," the police report states.

While Shackleford was in surgery, a nurse told police that he identified Amos C. Avery as his attacker, the report says. Police went to Avery's house.

"We noticed blood was all over the floors and Mr. Avery had blood on his T-shirt and face," the report states. "Officers also found suspected marijuana and a machete laying on the dining room floor."

Avery was charged with aggravated assault and possession of marijuana.
