SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County — Police said a Sugarcreek Twp. man severely beat his 6-month-old daughter, leaving her in critical condition Saturday at the Children’s Medical Center of Dayton.
Callie Koval was hospitalized about 8:30 p.m. Friday with severe head trauma, Sugarcreek police Sgt. Mark White said.
Callie’s father, Shawn Koval, 19, was arrested and is being held in the Greene County Jail. He is accused of underage alcohol possession and reckless assault.
More severe charges are expected to be filed this week, White said.
Callie had been under her father’s care at their home, an apartment at 4526 Bayberry Cove, while her mother was at work, White said.
White said Shawn Koval consumed alcohol prior to beating Callie.
Following the beating, Shawn Koval went to a local business in search of a friend, who contacted 911, White said.
Police believe the beating happened Friday.
Koval had been arrested several months earlier for violence against Callie’s mother, White said.
Koval also has an older child from a previous relationship, but that child does not reside with him, White said.
“We have determined he’s got a violent demeanor,” White said.
