ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Police say
three robbery suspects got the goods but couldn't get away.
Albuquerque police said robbery
suspects Leopoldo Padilla, Nabor Santiesteban Jr. and Gloria Herron held up the Clubhouse Inn on Menaul Boulevard
at gunpoint Sunday evening.
"The offender actually parked next to the business and so they were able to get a good license plate," Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Trish Hoffman said.
Investigators said the two got away with money from the register, but as soon as they left, the victims called 911 and provided the plate number.
At Broadbent Parkway and Menaul Boulevard --
less than a block away -- police found the suspected getaway car. Officers said the
driver told them the reason why
she stopped was because she ran out of gas.
According to the criminal complaint, Gloria Herron told officers that Padilla and Santiesteban ditched the car and ran away, but it wasn't long before the two men were found walking along a nearby road and arrested.
"Lucky for us, and unfortunate for the robbery suspects, they were able to be caught and taken into custody," Hoffman said.
Police said the
trio attempted another hold-up earlier in the night.
According to the criminal complaint, a clerk in a back room of the Staybridge Suites saw the armed men on surveillance camera and ignored the suspects' calls to come to the front desk. They finally left, and police said they went to the Clubhouse Inn, but just couldn't pull it off.
The three face charges, including two counts of child abuse, because they said the woman's 2-year-old child was in the car.
