Man Arrested for Attacking Elderly Woman at Salisbury Walmart

SALISBURY, Md.- Police have arrested a Delmar, Md. man accused of assaulting an elderly woman in the checkout line of the Walmart store located on North Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury.

Salisbury police on Friday, Oct. 15, took 24-year-old James Russell Crockett into custody on an outstanding warrant charging him with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, disturbing the peace, dangerous weapon with intent to injure and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting $100,000 bond.

According to police, Crockett was arrested in connection with an incident alleged to have occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 13. On that date, police responded to the emergency room of Peninsula Regional Medical Center where they met with a 70-year-old woman with health problems who stated that she had been assaulted in the checkout line of the Walmart.

Police said that while attempting to change checkout lines, the victim's shopping cart inadvertently bumped into the shopping cart of Crockett's wife. Police said that Crockett and his wife "became enraged," and shouted racial epithets at the victim. According to police, Crockett put the victim on her cart and rammed her into the conveyor belt four times before she fell from the cart and landed on the floor.

Court documents state that Crockett then bent over and flipped the victim's cart into the air so that it landed on top of her. The victim screamed and repeatedly begged anyone to "Please call the police, call an ambulance, or call security," according to court records. The court documents also stated that while the victim begged for help, both Crockett and his wife remained at the cash register and checked out the remainder of their groceries for approximately 15 minutes before leaving the store in their vehicle.

Crockett's wife, Virginia Elizabeth Crockett, 22, was charged on a criminal summons with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Please tell me someone came to this womans aide and helped her while all of this was going on!!! What is up with people flipping out at Wal-Mart? Over a shopping cart bump?!?! Seriously, Wal Mart is a crowded place and its bound to happen - that doesnt mean you have to friggin flip out over it! I hope this elderly woman is going to be okay - it sounds like her injuries are going to be pretty nasty from what he did to her. I hope both of them rot in jail for what they have done. This poor womans life could be cut short - she already has health problems, combine that with her age and this assault and the outcome doesnt look good

I am addicted to Diet Coke, and because of it, I will buy nothing smaller than a 24 pack. I would have grabbed my 24 pack, knocked him over the head, slapped the bitch wife a few times, and then took the 70 yo woman's cart and proceed to beat the couple with it. You would be seeing me on here, not them.

That poor lady, I hope she doesn't go sooner than expected because of these two asswipes.

A lot of comments on the article at the link. Some of them make a few valid points. For instance, is it ready plausable that NO ONE intervened when he was yelling racial slurs, picking her up and putting her in the cart, overturning the cart on top of her?
Another comment said that if she was really in the cart and fell over, the cart would have fallen with her. Someone else stated that the cops showed up at the hospital, not the store and that didn't make sense either. Wal-Mart would normally have been in CYA mode and called an ambulance at least while SOMEONE SOMEWHERE would have had their cellphone out recording it.
I'm not saying he didn't act like an ass. He probably was abusive. Some posts indicate the wife was pregnant and the woman hit her tummy with the cart. Plus he just looks like a dick that would flip out over a simple mistake. But I watched the video of the interview with the 'elderly' woman. No marks on her face or arms.. her only complaints were that a recent knee replacement was re-injured (couldn't have been too bad because the opening shot was of her standing at the stove) and she had a bruise on her thigh.
I'm thinking he deserved the arrest but it wasn't as bad as the woman made it out to be.

I hate shopping at Walmart and Fred Myers, I always see people I never want to see again in my life there. My ass is toast if I do visit, now that everybody knows a beatdown wont be stopped.
