Heather N. Austin abuses 1 child while shopping left the baby home alone.

NEW CASTLE — Two children are in state custody after their mother left one at home and abused another while shopping at a discount store Friday.

Heather N. Austin, 27, 1504 S. 18th St., Apt. 1, New Castle, today was charged with neglect of a dependent and battery. Both are class D felonies.

She is being held in the Henry County Jail on $10,000.

According to a probable cause affidavit, women inside Dollar General called New Castle police after they saw Austin grab the 4-year-old boy and slam him into a wall outside the store.

When police arrived and arrested Austin, she asked them to stop by her house and check on her 14-month-old daughter. Police found the girl inside the home alone.

This doesn't even make sense. I would rather take the 14 month shopping... at least you can strap them into the cart. 4 year olds can run all over the place and see/know what to beg for - which is probably what pissed her off in this case.

14 month old home alone? WTF?!?! It's bad enough when I hear them leaving the 5 year old to watch the baby, but at least then there's a CHANCE for the kids to be ok. A 14 month old? Alone? Wow. Unfuckingbelievable.

Stupid fucking bitch!! I don't care if it was down the street or all the way across town, these dumb ass bitches that call themselves mothers need to quit leaving their children at home alone. Things happen within the blink of an eye and she is just lucky that this child was not harmed! At 14 months they can get out of a crib by themselves and even some can open a door and go outside. I say Thanks to the ladies at Dollar General for alerting the police of her actions. Who knows if they hadn't maybe someday the things she did would have been worse and we would be reading a more tragic end.

I would bet my life savings this wasn't the first time she left that baby home alone either. Nor is it probably the first time she smacked her 4 year old around. Thank God she was caught before something really bad happened.

Speaking of freaking on your kids in stores. I was telling my mom all the walmart stories we have had lately and she told me a story about this woman who was smacking the crap out of her 2 year old, slapping her across the face in the store. The manager and my mom confronted her and she wigged and ran out the store. They followed her while calling the cops, as she continued to beat and yell at this baby. Some wonam slammed on her brakes, rolled down her window and asked this woman what the hell her problem was. This lady actually SHOVED the 2 year old in the window, said "if you can do a better job be my guest," and took off! She left the kid there!

I hope the child is in better hands now. Nothing in the world gives me as much pleasure as when I remove a child from a home who is being abused. I actually take perverse pleasure when the parents are upset, pissed off, calling me a bitch etc. as I whisk their child they don't deserve away! :)

The woman got arrested and I think they called the dad and her sister to come and get the baby. This was at the Walmart in Roseburg, Oregon if you wanna check. But yeah, my mom had never seen such a thing!
