DENVER -- A man who tried to help a woman being thrown out of the car was then himself stabbed in the neck several times Wednesday night.
The Good Samaritan was walking near the intersection of 46th Avenue and Vrain Street when he saw a woman get pushed out of a car, said Denver police spokesman Matt Murray.
The man tried to intervene but was stabbed in the neck several times, Murray said.
The stabber fled but officers got a description of him and went to where they believed he was heading. Officers spotted the suspect but he took off in a car, Murray said.
After a short chase, which ended in a PIT maneuver near Parker Road and East Mississippi Avenue, police arrested Brent Ward. A PIT maneuver is when a police officer hits a suspect's car, causing him to spin to a stop.
Ward, 27, is being held for investigation of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, knowing and reckless assault causing injury, and vehicular eluding.
The Good Samaritan, whose name has not been disclosed, is expected to be released from Denver Health on Thursday.
Police plan to hold an awards ceremony for him next week to commend him for his actions.
