Deputies in Charlotte County arrested an Englewood mother on child abuse and neglect charges.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Warrant Squad arrested 24-year-old
Jessica Dawn Nicol following an investigation that started on May 3.
According to reports, the investigation began when a deputy had been flagged down by Nicol and her boyfriend, Jonathan Snyder, near Chadwick Park. They said
Nicol's mother had her two-year-old daughter and would not return her.
The deputy went to meet with the mother, who said
she was reluctant returning her granddaughter to Nicol because she thought the child was being abused.
In the report, the deputy wrote,
"Nearly every body part had a bruise of some extent. It appeared that the bruises were in different stages of developing. There was a cut under her armpit and behind both ears; the child's upper and lower lips were cut."

Detectives with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit went to that address and also called the Department of Children and Families to the home to investigate.
At that time, officials decided that the young girl should stay with the grandmother until the investigations were finished.
The case against Nicol was forwarded to the State Attorney's Office and an arrest warrant was issued.
