JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The mother of a 15-month-old girl found stuffed in a gym bag in the back seat of a locked car was arrested last week.

Jacksonville police said the 21-year-old woman reported her daughter missing from her apartment.

Police said they found the child in a white Puma gym bag that was 18 inches long, 10 inches deep and made from a nylon material lined by a plastic liner.

The girl's mother told investigators her daughter was last seen about 11 p.m. when she put her in her crib for the night, according to a police report. She said no one had had contact with the girl since 3 p.m. that day besides her, according to the report.

The woman said she is a light sleeper and had not been awakened during the night, according to police.

Officers said the apartment where the mother and daughter live has two locks on its only door, and both were locked after the woman's grandparents left at about 3 p.m. Police said one of the locks is only accessible from within the apartment.

Police said that because no one else had contact with the child or had access to the locked apartment, and because the child could have suffocated, the girl's mother was arrested and booked into jail on charges of aggravated child abuse.

Another one of those times where it pisses me off that all she gets is aggravated child abuse. Just what was she planning on doing with the girl anyway? She reported her missing for a reason! Should be attempted murder, which leads me down the if she hadn't been found, she'd be dead, and what's the damn difference?

"I don't know what to say. I'm speechless," a friend of the mother's said when she found out about the arrest. "She didn't have a reaction? What do you mean? Is this the same person? I don't know."
"She wouldn't harm her baby like that. She wouldn't do that," another friend said.
The child is OK and is being cared for by relatives.

OMG, I wonder how long she was in there, apparently not long enough to die....amazing. And, YES she would do that.

Why the fuck? did she think she'd just disappear if she'd leave her there long enough. 15 months and I guess she didn't fall in love with her baby, or fell out of love which is entirely beyond me.

Sweet child hope she does well with family.

Baby Found Stuffed in Gym Bag Locked in Car; Jacksonville Mother Arrested

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police looking for a missing baby found the child stuffed in a gym bag locked in the back of a car, and the child's mother has been arrested.

Leendra Glene' Dasher, 21, called the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Oct. 5 to report her 15-month-old daughter missing. The child was found shortly afterwards.

The girl is being cared for by relatives and is doing well, according to John Harrell with the Department of Children and Families.

The bag in which the child was found measures 18 by 10 by 10 inches. According to a JSO report, Dasher told police she put the child in the crib at 11 p.m. the night before, and was not awakened by any noises during the night.

She also said she had been alone in her apartment with the child since 3 p.m. and nobody else had access to the child.

Dasher denied putting the child in the bag and putting the bag in the car.

However, because the apartment was locked from the inside and nobody else could have gotten to the child, police arrested Dasher, charging her with aggravated child abuse.

She is being held on $150,000 bond as she awaits her arraignment Oct. 27.

Harrell said the agency is looking into the case, which he called "very disturbing."

"We were alarmed any mother would treat her child in an inhumane way," Harrell said.

You know what I'm wondering, maybe her man didn't get out of jail and she thought if the child was missing that maybe they would let him out of jail to help look for her? It's awful close to her going to court for him on the 4th of October and then her reporting the child missing on the 5th. That is my theory of the day fellow detectives....

I think she was depressed and overwhelmed because they didn't let him out. No excuse for what she did though. You call someone to look after the kid till you can cope again.

This is probably similar to what happened to Caylee Anthony except Whorseface got away with it for a month.
