Letischa Collins Allegedly Sot Daughters BF After Finding Him In Her Home

Algiers woman accused of shooting her daughter's boyfriend in house
Letischa Collins, 35, was booked with aggravated battery after she shot the 16-year-old boy in the stomach inside her home in the 3000 block of Wabash Street shortly before 1:30 a.m. The injured boy was taken to a local hospital where he was in stable condition, according to New Orleans police, who did not release the victim's name.
No bond has been set in the case.

Collins' mother, Lillie Johns Sorrell, said that her family is reeling after the shooting, which was avoidable if Collins' 16-year-old daughter and the boy had obeyed their parents. Sorrell, who was not at the home, said that the boy was visiting her granddaughter despite Collins' rules prohibiting visitors to her home when she was not there.

Sorrell, 52, said that she believes the boy, who attends L.B. Landry High School with her granddaughter, had a curfew of 9 p.m., but was allowed to stay out later by his parents. She said she doesn't know exactly what happened when Collins came home from work, and is hoping police can shed more light on what led to the shooting.

Sorrell emphasized that her daughter is not a violent woman and would not have shot anyone unless she was provoked. She said she spoke to her daughter Monday and she was already expressing remorse.

"Her daughter is the cause of this... Her 16-year-old daughter is hot in the tail and now my daughter has to pay the price," Sorrell said. "We're glad he is all right, but we hope he learned his lesson... Now my daughter's life is ruined behind this."

Sorrell said her daughter is a good person who has stood by her side as she's battled cancer in recent years. Sorrell said she doesn't have the money to bond her daughter out of jail, and her other grandchildren don't know when they will see their mother again.

"My daughter is not no kind of criminal. She got that gun for protection to protect her and her daughters," Sorrell said. "And that gun got her in trouble."

Huh, typical. Her granddaughter is the cause, really? Not her ape shit crazy daughter?

No, Ms. Sorrell, your daughter ruined her life when she shot the kid in the stomach.

Oh, I don't know about that, MBM. If she walked into a dark house and a strange man came running out of a back room, shooting seems very reasonable. If she thought he was a burglar, because after all her daughter wouldn't have a friend over after 9:00, what can you say? It's a wonder more boys aren't killed this way. (My husband could have been.)
