La Jolla Realtor Accused Of Abusing Babies

Bird Rock resident Lainie Carswell understands how some people may find it hard to believe what happened to her 7-month-old daughter Jori.

"There are days when I am so angry that this happened and that she has done this to my child, and she has done this to other children," Carswell said.

She said it happened last November at a community event and it involved La Jolla Realtor Lisa Hench.

Carswell said Hench's three kids went to the same school as her older children.

Even though Carswell said she didn't know Hench very well, she didn't have a problem when she said Hench wanted to hold her daughter Jori.

"I was standing right there," Carswell said.

Moments after handing over Jori, she said her daughter started to scream.

"Just like a wail with a screech, just very loud, I couldn't console her," Carswell said. "I just finally got to a point where I took Jori and I had to leave."

When Carswell got home and took off Jori's clothing, she was stunned.

"There were pinches, bruises, bloodied scratches, there had been skin torn off from a toe," she said.

Carswell said she didn't understand how it could have happened, until she spoke with her friend who's 18-month-old son, Charlie, suffered scratches around his ears, after allegedly being held by Hench that same day.

The Carswells say other parents have also come forward claiming their children were also scratched by Hench.

"We don't want anyone to go through the pain that we've had to go through," said Gene Carswell.

Hench was in a San Diego courtroom for a status hearing on Thursday. Her next hearing has been set for December 2. She faces multiple felony child abuse charges. [...]

Sometimes I get to hold a wee lil baby and I nibbles on those lil pea toes,cause they are soo cute... but a weird thought pops in my head to bite them off, thinkin they taste like sugar, maybe? Lisa Hench, 45, Scratched The Children, Aged 3 Months To 19 Months

SAN DIEGO -- A prominent La Jolla real estate agent who scratched eight neighborhood babies pleaded guilty Thursday to eight misdemeanor counts of corporal injury on a child.
Lisa Hench, 45, scratched the children -- ages 3 months to 19 months -- at different locations over a four-month period in the fall of 2009, said Deputy District Attorney Patrick Ojeil.

Hench initially pleaded not guilty to four felony counts of child abuse in April. Her change of plea could land her up to 8 years in county jail
Hench is accused of pretending to play with each of her eight victims, then scratching and pinching them hard enough to leave marks and make them cry in pain.
It was not clear what motivated Hench -- a mother of three -- to scratch the children, some of whom she knew.
Prosecutors said each case of abuse happened in a different location, including schools and parks.
The mother of one young victim told 10News reporter Ariana Duarte her infant's skin was covered in bruises and her skin had been torn off in some places.

"I believe she's out there still doing it and I believe she will be caught for it again and that the punishment will be severe when it happens," said Lainie Carswell, mother of then 7-month-old Jori.
Carswell said Hench appeared unremorseful in court.

"I don't think she regrets it one bit. I did not see one ounce of remorse in her eyes," said Carswell.
Prosecutors will probably ask that Hench not be forced to serve time in jail unless she gets in trouble again, Ojeil said.

Baby Scratcher Back in Jail

A former La Jolla real estate agent who was granted parole after being jailed on child abuse charges for scratching babies, is now back in jail and has lost custody of her three kids.

In January, 45-year-old Lisa Hench apologized in court for abusing babies by secretly scratching them while their parents weren't looking. She was to serve one year for the crime.

But now, the former La jolla realtor is back in jail for violating the terms of her probation.

According to documents exclusively obtained by NBC 7, Lisa has failed several drug tests since her sentencing last January.

Records show the drugs include Cocaine, Amphetamine, Morphine or Heroin. She also has several prescriptions for painkillers like Vicodin.

Last week Hench's former husband filed for emergency custody of their three children ages 8, 6 and four.

In court documents, John Hench said on Tuesday he got a call from Lisa saying she had seriously injured herself in a fall.

He said Lisa told him, "I can't move.. I need you to come help me with the kids…please."

He also said Lisa wanted him to bring her a beer, which he refused to do.

After picking up their children from Lisa's Del Mar home, the kids told John Hench they hadn't eaten or gone to school for two days.

On Wednesday, US Marshals arrested Lisa for failing her drug tests--while she was being treated at Scripps Hospital for broken ribs.

I remember holding an open house on Sunday and giving birth to Johnny on Monday. I remember delivering Paige on a Sunday morning and then calling a client about an offer that had come through the fax while I was delivering. Mothering is the most important job and it is nice to know that you can have your children at home while you are working. Woman gets prison for scratching 8 babies

SAN DIEGO - A former La Jolla real estate agent who mysteriously scratched and pinched eight babies after befriending their mothers was sentenced to a two-year jail term Friday after violating her probation.

Lisa Hench, 45, was arrested last month when she failed to enroll in a substance abuse program and tested positive for drugs three times, said Deputy District Attorney Nicole Rooney.

The defendant -- a mother of three -- had been out of custody while she appealed her original sentence handed down in January by Superior Court Judge Michael Smyth.

Friday, Smyth imposed the two years in county jail when Hench was found to be in violation of probation and abandoned her appeal, Rooney said
