MONTREAL -- An elementary school teacher at a city private school has been arrested in the United States on charges of soliciting a 13-year-old boy and possessing child pornography for the purpose of distribution, the school's headmaster says.
Richard Doucet, who has taught at Selwyn House in Montreal's tony Westmount district since 1999, was arrested in Fredericksburg, Va., late Thursday after attending a conference in Atlanta. He has been suspended indefinitely with pay.
The allegations are the latest sex scandal to hit the exclusive boys' school, whose illustrious Montreal alumni include members of the Molson family and Charles Bronfman.
Headmaster William Mitchell had only sketchy details of the arrest, relayed to him by an officer with the Northern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force who contacted him on Friday.
Mitchell was told Doucet, who is in his 30s, made his way by plane and train from Atlanta to Fredericksburg, where he arrested at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.
