Belle Glade mom charged with child abuse for allegedly ordering daughter, 12, to mop up blood after a stabbing
A Belle Glade woman told her 12-year-old daughter she'd stabbed her live-in boyfriend and ordered the girl to help mop up the bloody evidence, authorities said.
Deputies determined the man was stabbed by someone else.
The woman told deputies she had her daughter clean up the mess because she lived in public housing and didn't want to get into trouble.
Cheryl Evette Simmons, 44, was arrested Saturday night, charged with child cruelty, and left the Palm Beach County Jail two hours later after posting $3,000 bond, jail records show.
According to Palm Beach County sheriff's reports, on Saturday, Simmons' boyfriend, Stafford Everett, told deputies at Lakeside Medical Center that a man he did not know had stabbed him around 5 p.m. near Northwest Avenue D and West Canal Street.
Everett later was flown by Trauma Hawk to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

There, Simmons' 12-year-old daughter said Simmons returned from taking Everett to the hospital with blood on her shirt; blood also was on the floor and carpet near the apartment entrance.
The girl said she hadn't seen the stabbing but her mother told her she'd stabbed Everett in an argument over his eying a female neighbor.
The girl said her mother told her to get the mop and bucket and clean the blood.
Both Simmons and Everett later said someone else stabbed the man.
Records show Everett was in state prison from 2007 to 2008 and from October 2009 to February of this year, on Tampa-area drug convictions.
Palm Beach County Jail records show Everett was arrested twice in 1999, once in 2001, twice in 2002 and once in 2003, on charges that included aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery and child abuse.
Palm Beach County Jail records show Simmons was arrested in 1999, 2005, 2006 and 2008, on changes that include domestic battery and aggravated battery.
