Teacher Durand Brown Arrested After Baby Found Wandering & His Story Doesnt Check Out

SANFORD, Fla. -- A Eustis Middle School teacher was arrested and charged with child neglect after his 1-year-old child was found holding onto a fence at the entrance of an apartment complex. The 1-year-old boy, who was wearing only a diaper, was found wandering outside the Pineaire apartment complex on Florida Street in Sanford (see map) Sunday, police said.

Kelly Wilson called 911 after she said she found the child in his soiled diaper walking near the entrance of the complex. Wilson said she was able to feed the baby, change his diaper, provide him with clothes and care for him until officers arrived.

The responding officer walked door-to-door in hopes of finding the boy's parents, but was unable to locate them. The boy was placed with Child Protective Services (CPS).

Police said, around 8:00pm, they received a call about a missing 1-year-old child who was last seen wearing a diaper.

Officers said that when they arrived at a home on El Capitan Street in Sanford (see map), Durand Brown told officers that he was at home watching six children. Durand said, around 6:30pm, he went to the grocery store for approximately 20 minutes and left the 1-year-old with his 12-year-old son and the other children.

When Durand returned home, he began cooking dinner for the children, noticed the baby was gone and then called 911. Investigators were contacted by CPS and were notified that they had the baby.

Officers determined that the 1-year-old disappeared when Durand was home around 7:30pm and failed to check on the child when he returned from the store. Durand was placed under arrest and taken to John E. Polk Correctional Facility and charged with child neglect without great harm. He was given a $2,000 bond.

Six Kids! Holy Crap! Six kids is more than anyone can handle! Hell, I should speak for myself, someone with 8 will come on here and take the piss. More than I can handle.

I have a friend that is taking care of 8 kids. She has four boys of her own, all ranging from the ages 6 to 14. Six months ago she took in her sisters four daughters. The youngest is still an infant and the oldest is 7. I tell her all the time I don't know how she does it. She is a single mother who is also caring for her ill father. She is the definition of a good mother. I don't feel that I could handle that many kids in one house. Yet if I had to do it for a family member I think I would.

Really this guy should have been watching that baby better. I don't care how many kids are in the house. You lock the doors. You check up on babies regularly. At that age they are into everything. If he was overwhelmed he should have put some kind of buddy system in place to ensure every child was accounted for.

Whenever my friends and I have a large get together with a lot of kids we always do this. We pair off the older kids with the younger ones. Never lost a kid yet. The older kids enjoy being trusted with the responsibility and the little ones just have a good time. To bad this guy didn't have more common sense. Thank God this baby was found safe and sound!!!!

His face says it all....hot dahuum... 6 kiddo's cannot do it!

I know maybe 2 people I'd leave with 6 kids, and that doesn't include any of my own!
I'm very glad baby was found by a caring person. This Kelly Wilson sounds like a really good mama.

Mom Of Wandering Tot: Charges Against Dad Too Harsh
Durand Brown, 37, a teacher at Eustis Middle School, was arrested on a charge of child neglect.

The child's mother, Janel Indingaro, said she was at work at the time.

"Sometimes it gets chaotic. Sometimes it gets really chaotic. Me being a mother, I'm always, 'Where's this one and where's that one," Indingaro said.
    [...]

Indingaro said Brown is a family man and would never harm their children.

"You hear the noise and you hear the commotion and, you know, you're cooking dinner and doing laundry and whatever you're doing around the house. It's hard to always be watching and having your eye on six different kids," Indingaro said.

Indingaro said she does not agree with the charges against Brown.

"I wouldn't consider it neglect. I consider it an accident," Indingaro said.

Accidents surely happen and with 6 kids on you watch, easy. I do wonder just what he was doing. IF he was doing his best, cooking dinner taking care of kiddo's as was said, AND he has no priors, yeah I can agree. I guess I always expect to read that the fucker was smoking his shit high and oblivious or asleep leaving the eldest to care for the kids. dunno, sometimes its hard to know wtf really happened. I'm just glad baby was found safe by a good person.

When i was 16 I was chilling in my parents house while they were gone watching tv. I heard my dog bark so i looked out the window and i saw a baby. He was maybe 2, in the pouring rain wearing a diaper and cowboy boots. My dog had just given birth and he was trying to hug up on a puppy. I grabbed him and took him inside. His butt was dirty as hell, he was grubby and unkempt. At the time my little brother was 3, so i had diapers and PJS. I gave him a bath, put him in a fresh diaper and pjs and called the cops. They told me that they were busy and could i possibly feed him? So I did, oatmeal. He ate 3 bowls. When the cop showed up he called CSD and as soon as he did the mom of the kid came stumbling down the road. It had been 3 hours.

And fuck if they didn't give the kid right back when she told them how sorry she was. I was so pissed. And i still wonder if he was alright in the end with that mom.

I wonder too Nell. I hope he did, maybe mom got a clue. Reminds me of a similar incident when I was just a girl. Still wonder today if he ever made it. So many kids people could seem to careless about as they toddle or crawl out the door... So damn sad.

I had something similar but it was the mom who dropped off her infant daughter, and her 2 year old son in my backyard. I am not shitting you. My kids were little, oldest 5 and the youngest just a year old. They were all three playing in our backyard, and I was on the phone at my back door watching them. I was out of sight to anyone that passed by the back fence. So as I am speaking on the phone, I see this bitch just drop her kids off on my yard. I kid you not, I was so shocked I dropped the phone....I ran out and gave her a piece of my mind. Her baby didn't even walk yet!!! She grabbed her kids quickly and never did that shit again.....I then started to watched that woman like a hawk.
