PELION, SC (WIS) - A 73-year-old Pelion man sits in jail, charged with sexually assaulting a young girl. James Hayes Webber was arrested after his 14-year-old accuser turned what she says is an audio recording of the attack.

"During the recording you can hear her crying, pleading with him not to harm her, and he continues to try to harm her," said Maj. John Allard of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
Arrest warrants say in April, Webber sexually assaulted the girl in a field in Pelion. Another warrant says the girl recorded a second incident in May where Webber tried to sexually assault her again.
Officials say you can hear the girl crying and pleading with Webber to stop and not hurt her further in the footage. That recording shocked even the experienced investigators at the sheriff's department. "Our detectives are all seasoned detectives who have investigated these types of crimes before," said Allard. "All of them to a man and woman were in tears after they listened to the recording, it was that graphic and disturbing."
Experts believe as many as 90 percent of all sexual assaults go unreported, so Allard says the fact that the victim was actually able to record the crime makes this case even more remarkable. "It's amazing that she had the presence of mind under those circumstances to record the attempted sexual assault, so she's a very strong young
lady," said Allard.
