REDFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A Detroit man is behind bars after police say he broke into the 8 Points Party Store on 8 mile Road earlier this month. They say he used a pick ax to break through the cement wall of the store. Once inside, they say he stole booze, cigarettes, lottery tickets and money. Investigators say the break-in set off the alarm. Once police got there, the suspect was gone. As they looked around the alley behind the store they found a driver's license! They believe the suspect dropped it on his way out of the store.
"Sometimes they help us", says Capt. Eric Gillman of the Redford police department.
Police went to the Detroit address on that license where they found Alton Lyons. They say he was dressed in black and had cement dust all over him. According to police, he also had stolen lottery tickets in his sweatshirt pocket.
Investigators believe Lyons is responsible for at least 3 other break-ins at that party store. The owner says his store has been broken into 6 times in the last month and a half.
