Ryshod Mercer Escapes Police Custody Despite Cast On Leg & Handcuffs,Still Missing

Man escapes police custody despite cast on leg and handcuffs
KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Cops are searching for a man who, despite a cast on one leg and handcuffs on his arms, escaped from police custody while he was being taken to jail in Jackson County.

At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, police were taking Ryshod Mercer, 34, from his arraignment in Jackson County Court to the Jackson County Jail. Mercer was charged with burglary and domestic assault and his bond had just been set at $50,000 cash-only.

Police say Mercer jumped from a moving police car at Truman and Denver in Kansas City, Mo., and ran away. The car was traveling at about 20 miles-per-hour when Mercer jumped from the back seat.

Police say Mercer was allegedly injured during a footchase with Sugar Creek police earlier this week. As a result of those injuries, he had a soft cast on is right wrist and a soft cast on his left leg.

Mercer was handcuffed in the front of his body and his legs were not shackled because of the casts. He was last seen wearing a white hospital gown and blue scrub pants.

Kansas City police helped Sugar Creek officers search for Mercer for a short time, but have since discontinued their search.

Oh now that is just embarrassing! Not only did they somehow let this man escape, but hey couldn't catch the handcuffed, injured man. I am curious though, how was this guy able to get the back door open? It has always been my experience (I had several opportunities to check out the rear area of police cruisers when I was a teen) that the back door in a cruiser won't open from the inside and that the rear windows either have bars or thick mesh over them.

You have personal experience with police cruisers too?

LOL a little from when I was younger

Grade 9 pulled fire alarm during final exams and they evacuated everyone from the school
OPP showed up at our house b/c a teacher in the lounge upstairs saw us running and cramming 4 people into a 2 seater porsche(friends dads car not mine )
Nothing came of it except a warning
Age 15 we stole $5000.00 worth of lawn ornaments again OPP showed up
That got tossed out and had to do community service)we had to put the ice rink in for hockey season at our arena )
age 15 arrested at American/Canadian border for pot I had in my purse
We had taken a hit of acid and hitch hiked 60 miles from our home town to Detroit(we did every weekend) to go to concerts
They put us in a cell beside rough bikers to scare us but we made friends with them lol
They took the 4 or 5 joints drove us back across the border to Canda and "gave us back to our country b/c we were 2 little girls living in a grown up world to soon" as they so nicely put it
We had moved out at 15,had our own apt, worked and were still in school
The border cops wanted to call our parents but we didnt live at home and legally were on our own

Other then that only other regular cop activity I saw was our house raided for drugs regularily to many times to remember when I was a kid until I moved out
And I swore my kids would never see that crap and they never have

And now if I got into any trouble Id lose my job,I work for the city and I have to have police clearance each yr and I also have CANPASS which is almost a automatic entry into States I just have to show it SOMETIMES"

My "thanks" are gone but your post was funny and mirrors a lot of the stupid ways I got into trouble as a teen (I was on my own by 17). The police were frequent visitors to my house too for drugs, domestic violence and all sorts of other crap too. The only time the cops have been to my house since my daughter was born was when they came to serve my husband with a subpoena to appear in a child support case. We were able to prove that my husband was not the man in question though he had the same name, he was neither black, 50 nor heavily tattooed. The police left and I still screw with my hubby about it.
