Augusta, GA -- According to Sgt. Richard Roundtree, on Thursday, May 8th, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) received a reported incident of a sexual assault which had occurred at Butler High School.

The report alleged that the former Band Director, Anthony Shelton, 37, had engaged in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old female student at the school, while the defendant was still employed with Board Of Education. The victim was subsequently interviewed by investigators and advised that between the months of September 2007 and December 2007, she engaged in sexual intercourse with the defendant between 6-8 times.

The victim stated that each incident occurred inside Shelton's office.

Through the course of the investigation, investigators located and subsequently interviewed a second female victim, 16.

Victim #2 advised that she also engaged in sexual intercourse with Shelton approximately 3 times between October 2007 and December 2007, again inside Shelton's office. The investigation further revealed the identity of a 3rd female victim, 15-years-old. Victim #3 stated, that on 1 occasion, between January 1st and January 18th, 2008, she went to Shelton's office and went to sleep on his couch. She stated that she awoke to find Shelton fondling her breasts.

Investigators also obtained statements from at least three other female students who advised that Shelton had made sexually explicit comments to them but none had engaged in any physical contact with Shelton.

Shelton arrived at the Law Enforcement Center Friday morning, along with his attorney, and after being interviewed by investigators, Shelton was taken into custody.

Shelton is charged with 2 counts of Child Molestation and 3 counts of Sexual Assault Against Persons In Custody.

AUGUSTA, Ga.---A mother is accusing a former band director of having sex with her teenage daughter. Now neighbors tell News 12 the teacher held band practice at his home, and he admits to sleepovers at school.

Former band director Anthony Shelton is being investigated for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student.

It's something mother Dale Redfern hates to hear. Her son goes to Butler High School, where the teacher formerly taught.

"More and more of it is happening nowadays and the world is just changing," Redfern says.

The sixteen-year-old's mother says it happened in the band room, and that Shelton had sex with her daughter up to eight times a week.

This allegation of inappropriate behavior is not the first.

During the board's investigation Shelton admitted he let students have sleepovers at school when he was responsible for them. All that led to his resignation in February.

"I just feel like there is that line and it needs to stop," Redfern said.

Shelton's neighbors tell News 12 he held band practice at his home as early as last summer when he started the job.

Principal Dr. Walter Reeves says he wasn't aware of any of these practices and they are against school policy.

"It's upsetting and I don't know how relationships like this could happen," Redfern said.

Shelton's case isn't the first in our area. In February South Carolina teacher Allenna Ward pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct with five teenage boys.

Last November Barnwell teacher Steven Walling faced child sex charges involving fourth and fifth grade girls.

Dale says it's harder for teachers today, because kids are more mature.

"I think the teacher needs to draw the line. I think the teacher needs to say, 'hey this is going too far. You're my student,'" she said.

News 12 tried to contact Anthony Shelton; he refused to comment.

He has not been charged in the case.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is now investigating these allegations by this mother. Investigators cannot charge him until they speak with the alleged victim. She now lives in Atlanta, but they hope to speak to her this week.

There are new allegations against a former Butler High School band director charged with child molestation.

The mother of a Murphey Middle School student claims Anthony Shelton allowed her daughter and another student to stay in his school office while both students were suspended.

Richmond County deputies tell NBC Augusta the alleged incident happened last year when Shelton worked there as a band assistant.

Investigators say they're still gathering information about these claims and no new charges have been filed.

Shelton was arrested earlier this month for having a sexual relationship with two Butler High School students.
