Authorities Investigate Death Of Infant Who Drowned In Bucket

An autopsy determined that a 5-month-old Chicago boy drowned in a bucket in a Gresham neighborhood home on Saturday, officials said Sunday.

While police and state child welfare officials have opened an investigation into the death of Jahdane Taver, of the 8300 block of South Hermitage Avenue, officials said the manner of the infant's death was "undetermined." Generally, deaths can be ruled as accidental, homicide, suicide or from natural causes.

Jahdane was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, said the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Officers were called to the home at 9:21 a.m., police said. Family members indicated that the boy had rolled off of a bed while he was sleeping and landed in a bucket of water near the bedside, police said.

This case reminds me of baby Niah Ford, 4 mo., case happened years back, but still pisses off so bad. In that case the mother was in a homeless shelter, had been out partying, came back basically vomited in the bucket with cleaner in it and passed out holding baby girl, wakes to find her head first in the bucket.

In this case, it sounds suspicious to me, and leaving a bucket of water by the bed---and baby rolling, well yeah sure could happen at 5 mo. but again, wtf leave a bucket of water? Feasible but REALLY fuckn stupid IF it happened as said.

Rest in peace baby Jahdane Taver, you deserved far better.

That is horrific Silva, I almost feel sorry for her, but I can't because what she did was so irresponsible and stupid.

Yeah, I ALMOST felt bad for her too when i saw the video and she was crying awful, and I don't doubt she regrets it. BUT, IF her circumstances had been genuine, her needing to be at a shelter, I might have felt bad fore her. BUT after reading man sources and comments she didn't need to be there she did that to be close to her penis.

    Saddest shit reading that.

I am sure she is horrified by what she did. I agree that is what pissed me off too and made me NOT feel sorry for her. She had family but wanted to be close to her man? Why do some women feel they have to do anything for a penis? I just don't get it, never will...

I couldn't agree with you more. Why would you have a bucket of water by a bed and why the hell wasn't a 5 mo. old in a crib with bars around it so that it wouldn't "roll off". And if they put him on a bed why wasn't there someone laying with him or why didn't they have pillows around the baby. This story just doesn't settle right with me.

The only time I had a bucket near my kids(not baby) bed is when they're sick. And there wasnt any water in it. What the hell !? Does this shit really have to be pounded in these parents heads? We all know that none of us are perfect parents, but honestly, where is the common sense?

Nope, I'm calling bullshit on this one. I absolutely refuse to believe that a 5 month old baby just happened to roll off a bed into a bucket of water and drown. When my son was learning how to roll over at 5 months, he couldn't roll two or three times in a row, certainly not 5 or 6, so how big was this bed? Second, why wasn't this baby in a fucking crib. Third, what irresponsible, stupid ass person leaves a bucket of water in a bedroom by a bed? If it's, i don't know, dog water or something, shouldn't it be in a kitchen or living room? Fourth, how likely is it that the baby rolled and landed splat in the middle of the bucket head first without knocking it over? It doesn't say how big it was, but even a 5 gallon bucket isn't as wide as a 5 month is long, unless maybe he was a preemie.

I could be a god damn detective here. These people are fucking stupid and obviously picked the wrong story. He should have fallen into a pool. Maybe he fell asleep on a shelf over the bathtub and rolled into a full tub, since the parents just leave random shit around their house. Nope, nope, nope. This one's a lie, and I can't wait to see how it plays out.

I agree Robot, maybe they should have had a kiddie pool in the bedroom for the baby to roll into. I mean why not, if they have buckets of water laying around?

After I'd had my firstborn, my mom said something about kids drowning in buckets. They were like crawling babies or walking toddler. It was a warning, not to leave the mop bucket out for too long. Mop and pour it out.

This don't sound like the case, tho maybe thay had a leak in the roof? I'll hold out on this until more is known.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services also is investigating an allegation of death by neglect in the case, a spokesman said.

If the baby really did fall off the bed (and I say BULLSHIT) and hit the bucket, that bucket would be far more likely to turn over than stay upright. What are the odds of a baby rolling off a bed and landing head down in a bucket? Bullshit, cowshit, horseshit!

Both of my daughters could roll over at 3 months. I DO believe that she was careless and shouldn't have been drinking and then taking care of a baby. It only takes seconds for a kid (especially that age) to drown. if she was holding onto the infants leg, then walked out of the room, the infant could have instinctively tried to roll over towards the mother but fell into a bucket instead. I do NOT call bullshit. I call neglect. The mother needs some treatment and to be sterilized to fully understand the severity of the neglect.
